And the last cut is Loeffel. I would have expected it if both Josi and Weber had joined the team, but with the current roster his PP skills could have been useful.

Means Helbling will be part of the team. Make feel awful. But i m writing here instead to be the real coach. So we ll see at the end..

How he made it is a mystery to me as well. Poor skater, can't handle the puck, keeps taking penalties...

I'm not sure what to think about the defense. I was counting on two NHL defensemen and we got the two best ones, and Grossmann plays a lot better than I expected. On the downside, I'm not convinced by the depth. Du Bois and Blum are fine with reduced ice time, Geering is inexperienced at this level and should get sheltered minutes too, and there's Helbling. I was hoping we'd get two of Vauclair, Von Gunten, Seger, Blindenbacher and Furrer, and in the end none of them will go to Prague.

Yeah, Helbling is really strange, I'm sure there are better options for this role (physical D-men). I really don't know what Hanlon sees in him.

On the other side, Kukan is ready for a top-4 role, Du Bois can also play there (I like him and I think he can do that). Blum/Grossmann is a solid third pairing and then we'd have Geering as 7th D and Helbling in the press-box.

I would prefer Du Bois on the third pair. In 2011 I think he was fine as a depth player but couldn't have done more. In 2012 he couldn't handle his 2nd pair role. Blum had some trouble last year but was fine on the fourth pair in 2013. I have no doubt that Kukan can play top 4 minutes.

As Kukan played with Loeffel and Grossmann with Helbling for most of the preparation games, I think the defense will look like this:

Josi - Kukan
Streit - Du Bois
Grossmann - Helbling
Blum - Geering

It would have been nice to replace Helbling with a better player, but considering that 7 players who would have made it declined, it's not that bad.

The forward group isn't bad either, even though having Schäppi center an offensive line is not optimal. I would feel better if either :eek::eek::eek:i or Plüss was here and one of Bertschy, Martschini or Pestoni could have translated his offensive talent to this level, but Switzerland is not the only team with some weakness, at least on paper.

Overall, I'm happy with this roster. I'm more worried about the way the team played against Denmark and France.

Yeah, Berra is #1 goalkeeper at the tournament.

It's very funny that Hanlon talks about skating abilities at the press conference and has Helbling on his team. :D

I dont think it's because he cannot reach at time.
Just because he has to adapt, to practice a bit before playing. Or could be punishment.
Anyway, Josi is there, so i doubt Fiala put all efforts to arrive in time. Not good point for him.

And jetlag might be diffcult, especially with a puck-drop at 12:15.

Offensive lines today:

Hollenstein - Romy - Brunner
Ambühl - Almond - Suri
Bodenmann - Schäppi - Bieber
Walker - Trachlser - Schwerwey/Wieser

Fiala would probably replace Bieber, so Scherwey or Wieser are 13th forward.

Pretty much the lineup of the first game against France. Most of it makes sense, but I'm not convinced by that Schäppi-Bodenmann line.

Bodenmann had an ugly season but I think he's one of the players who can play at another level on the national team. And with Fiala there (replacing Bieber) this line looks ok. The other possibility would be to put Almond there and let Ambühl center a line with Suri and Fiala. Then Schäppi would be the odd man out.

Edit: And as I speak, new lines today.

Hollenstein - Romy - Brunner
Fiala - Almond - Suri
Walker - Schäppi - Bodenmann/Bieber
Ambühl - Trachsler - Wieser

I like Fiala - Almond - Suri, that's the closest thing we can have from a true 2nd line. Not a big fan of splitting Walker and Trachsler though. I'd have Ambühl on the third line with Bieber and Wieser, and Schäppi (played with Trachsler for ZSC) or Scherwey (strong training camp) on the fourth line. That would leave Bodenmann and one of Schäppi or Scherwey out.

Regarding Bodenmann, I agree that he can bring more than his poor club season suggests, it's just the combination of him and Schäppi that doesn't make much sense to me.

Is this Brunner a player that we really need? His good season in Detroit is long gone, maybe it's time for him to stop pretending to be a hockey superstar. He is the most presumptuous and arrogant player I have seen in a long time.
And I am not just talking about that pathetic shootout attempt..

I don't think Brunner played bad, he worked a lot and created quite a few good scoring opportunities.

Kukan is out for tomorrow. Not good. I don't like seeing Grossmann playing 20+ minutes like today.

I was on my way to Prague, couldn't watch the game. What happend? Bad play? Austria good? Bad luck? All three?

Sloppy and cutesy play combined with Austria fighting until the end. Berra was ok, but not good. There wasn't any bad luck involved.

hi guys why no :eek::eek::eek:i, Wick, Monnet, Moser, M.Pluss, Seger in NT ?
and why Sprunger is never called to NT ?
