Why was Kovy taking faceoffs in the third? Is Anisimov injured?

Anisimov didn't take any faceoffs the second half of the year after he returned from a tricep injury, must be still bugging him. US head coach is also Bob's coach in the NHL, I'm sure he told his players some about Bob and what works against him

WOw, I missed the game so when I came home I was going to watch the replay of it but got spoiled just in the last second when I looked for the game...
I just couldn´t believe it, I kept scrolling through the list thinking that the "2-4"-result was some old game, but nope... just embarrasing performance.

I don´t know, Kovalchuk has been my personal favourite players since many years and I love it when he plays for the national team, but it feels as if since 2008 he is just harming our play, we're having bad tournaments when he plays :(

Montreal and Washington just have to lose, we need Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Markov and Yemelin.
- Yes, a lot of individuals, but it seems as if Znarok hasn´t got his **** right anytime this season (counting the EHT-tournaments) so we just need a bunch of huge players or something.

God, what happened?

Actually, Kovalchuk wasn't bad today and he has been productive so far, so I don't think he's the issue. Everyone supoorted his being the Captain of the team as well. We need a more solid defence.

Only 1 roster spot left.

It is not something that could stop Mozyakin from having a bad game. Unless he shows something really good at this tournament, I hope he won't be anywhere near NT after it.

Mozyakin was just awful, but I didn't think Kovalchuk contributed anything at all today either.

To be honest, I said it several times, Bilyaletdinov and Znarok (as Varnakov for the junior team) aren't the right coaches for our national team. They are both excellent coaches, but team coaches, not national team coaches. Bykov was much better. Our team played much better. I think we should opt for coaches who play more of a normal Russian style, this team actually doesn't look like a Znarok team, but it doesn't look good either. Last year we won just because we changed coach, pretty much like the first year with Bilyaletdinov.

Bykov deteriorated the longer his tenure went on. His team went ultra passive defensively because that was his only response to Jukka Jalonen's Team Finland's puck possession game.

Are you serious, is it for real? Well, I don´t know about you guys, but I think this tournament is more hopeless for us than in 2011 and 2013, way too many injuries, making us fill out all spots with players that our coach didn´t intend to use in the first place.
I didn´t even we would do bad in 2011 and 2013 this early into a tournament before, but this time it feels really bad. Ovechkin won´t solve it on his own.

The defence happend... before the tournament.

No Zadorov.
Instead Kulikov..wtf!?

All other guys injured or still in the playoffs... and we keep losing them.

With this D it would have been a miracle if Znarok somehow managed to get this team to play decent defence.

Seems lots of u guys r down on kulikov... has he been bad? He was great for the panthers all season and very consistent defensively.. what's the problem?

Whats with all that "worst defense of all time" talk?

Last year there was pretty much the same core.

Belov, Chudinov, Medvedev all were there.+ this year you have Kulikov (And No, Atas, just no way Zadorov is better than Kulikov atm).

Isn't the problem that Russia scored only two goals?

I mean, ok, lets say USA has a much better D than Russia. But still, their 3rd best D-man is Torey Krug, and he is a far from a defensive stud. :D

I had plans to watch the game later, to enjoy how Russia is destroying USA with their offense.. Another day, I guess. :D

Yes, I agree, D is bad, but we knew that it is bad even before the tournament started (which, of course, doesn't mean that we shouldn't expect at least not making stupid mistakes from it). It is attack that isn't working (except, of course, Shipachyov line) like it should be, luckily there is now some time to fix that - with all respect to Denmark and Belarus, those are the good candidates to practice some new ideas at the offense.

Bragin. He's boss.

The defense is fine. It's ho-hum but adequate enough if the offense shows up.
We lost because our 'big guns' were total garbage. Malkin, Kovalchuk, Tarasenko, Mozyakin all played like low level AHLers. The only guys who showed up were Panarin-Shipachyov-Dadonov.

I agree on this. Why everyone is blaming the deffence and Zharok (its just one game..) our problem is our offence. Rarely have a seen a NT team with 3 lines not working as i saw against the US. I was just waiting for the SKA lines to enter the ice to see some real hockey. Malkin was better the last 10 minutes but Zharok now has to make som adjustment in the lines and he have to let Malkin and Tarasenkov play togehter and to play more. If our NHL stars get mad and starting to fell hopeless we are out sooner or later. I read that Tarasenkov played under 10 min ????

There are some players who need to step up here but i think we will be fine.
Exept for last year when we played like the old CCCP and won every game its normal for the russian to fall apart in one game.

Now lets move on and get the team together and get the point we need for the quarter finale.
I dont think the Caps will loose (if there is truth in that we have one spot open for Ovi)

If they will have one spot open and Ovi is moving on with the Caps who do you think they will bring in??

Defense sucks aside from (kind of) Belov and Chudinov. Offense sucks (aside fron the SKA line). Even Bob sucks. Nice tournament for Russian fans so far.

But I expect some improvements from forwards and goalies. And I expect nothing from defensemen.

May be it's just seems to me, but out team players is TERRIBLY, EXTREMELY tired. They are completely physically exhausted, so we can't skate fast, we can't stop the puck at the blue line, we shoot the puck along (over) the boards with vexation.

If so, line combination changes and tactics doesn't matter anymore. There is no strength to do what coach wants.

I'm not sure 1 or 2 days pause between games can help to recover in this conditions. Month on vacation may be. I hope I'm wrong.
