Pulkkinen should definitely be in the team. There is no question about it.

We will have to prey Pulkkinen stops scoring goals then so his teams loses. If i remember right, Toronto has home game advantage in next game so maybe they can cut Grand Rapid's head off now.

What is Kari Jalonen's team's style to play hockey, or is it that nobody knows it, and nobody can see it on the ice because it never works.

What I saw in this game was "naturall hockey" without natural skill to score goals.

He just won the AHL goal scoring and only played half of the games. Though KJ skipped palola also and he is a goal scorer, so can't wait much from that idiot. He probably think scoring goals is not important in hockey.

Well as you said, Palola was left out as well and he's the leading goal scorer in Liiga. Unless KJ rates the AHL much higher than Liiga, I don't see Pulkkinen being invited to join the team. It just makes little sense considering the choices KJ's made so far. If he needed a goal scorer and was on the fence about Palola vs. Pulu, he should have just taken Palola along because there was and still is no guarantee that Pulu will even be available. I know some people believe Palola was left out exactly because KJ wanted to wait for Pulu, but that doesn't make sense IMO.

But Pulkkinen was almost goal per game in AHL. This is real test for Jalonen. If he does't take pulkkinen, he must be mentally challenged.

The guys need to shoot more. It's as simple as that. And I have a pretty good theory on why they didn't.

That rink in Ostrava is HUGE. There's easily a meter more of ice on both sides even from the standard international box. That means you have more space around you and your teammates. You can see them more clearly, which creates an illusion that they're just in position to bury it, even if they really aren't. They need to learn away from that, sort of readjust the sense of when to take the shot and when to look for another pass.

Other than that, I think there's no reason to call for anybody's head yet. We're all emotional after showing like that, but we'll have to wait and see.

Defense had some issues with their positioning, USA got far too many turnovers and 2-1 plays. Rink blindness again? Hard to say, though at least couple of them were simply due to a d-man (okay, Mäntylä) fumbling with the puck. Jitters, maybe? We'll have to see if their positioning improves before calling anyone s***tybad.

Rinne wasn't at his best, but we can account that to travel and jet lag. They shouldn't have put him out there yet, but he'll improve.

I doubt they'll mix up the lines any, since chemistry issues weren't really even the root of the problem. Konna and JMA find each other all right, they just need to work out that rink blindness issue. And while it still left something to be desired, I think this was the best we've seen from Jokinen and Barkov since they were shoehorned together. There might, just might, be hope there yet.

I have to say though, given how good Kemppainen was, I'd like to see him put back together with his partner in crime. Donskoi, while he wasn't bad, didn't look fully at home next to those two fat cats. Maybe...

Ruutu - Kontiola - Aaltonen
Pesonen - Barkov - Jokinen
Donskoi - Kemppainen - Louhivaara
Pihlström - Immonen - Hartikainen

They don't even have to mix the PP2 up with that, if they intend to carry on with the same unit. I'd like to see Salmela there though, to minimize the chance of turnovers and also because he's a shooter.

How come would/should Pulkkinen with few NT showings be allowed to join the team in the middle of the tournament after a season played mostly in the AHL (considering that even playing a full NHL season didn't help RR)? I'm just wondering why KJ would take him at this stage, not necessarily saying he shouldn't be brought in.

Because we don't have a winger with his scoring form and above all shot and because coach Jalonen said they are waiting for his status.

re: Pulkkinen. Jalonen actually said that they still have their eyes on him. So we don't have to speculate if they're watching him or not - they are.

And well, if KJ and co have their eyes where they should be, it's pretty obvious that the team could use a shooter. If he becomes available, it's pretty simple arithmetic from there.

Result was bad, but the game was good. Many nice idea level elements and nicely flowing play from our Finnish lions. First game is always hard, because of lots of new players and not much preparing time, I'm sure the resulting will be better from now on.

How many passes they had on a offensive zone? I recall only one.

Looks like he's changed his mind: http://www.mtv.fi/sport/mm2015/uuti...mmentaa-yksi-leijona-hyokkaaja-kotiin/5047822

Myös ilmareitti Pohjois-Amerikkaan on suljettu.

– Ei lähdetä odottelemaan toista NHL-kierrosta, Jalonen totesi.

Eikä myöskään Teemu Pulkkista?

– Ei näillä näkymin.

WTH is up with Komarov btw? 'He is not injured but has received treatment' What does that even mean?

Could be an illness or something. Or maybe he pretended to not be injured to be allowed to come, and now has to continue the act. Don't know, something odd. If KJ didn't want him there, he'd be gone. If he was in game-shape, he'd be playing.

I completely forgot they have Komarov waiting in the reins. I'd like to see him next to the Cats to give the Stoats some time together.

We could actually four animal-themed lines like that...

Ruutu - Kontiola - Aaltonen (the eels)
Komarov - Barkov - Jokinen (the cats)
Pesonen - Kemppainen - Donskoi (the stoats)
Pihlström - Immonen - Louhivaara (the cows)

Does Jalonen have something against NA? RR55 didn't make the team, Pulkkinen won't make it. He didn't invite any of the AHL (/NHL) guys to the last camps etc

Were there any potential ones available?

Also, Jokipakka made it.

Actually I'm not sure. I have no idea if they are playing or not: Pokka, Pakarinen, Armia, Lindbohm, Rissanen, Keränen or Rynnäs for example. I would at least liked to see them before saying thanks but no thanks.

I played with Jokipakka just before he got his big break, nice to see him doing well.

These decisions made by our coach have been embarrassing and I was waiting to see Ristolainen in action.

Lindbohm, Armia yes, if your team is still in the playoffs then I assume they won't release their ahl players to this tournament?

Pokka, Pakarinen, Armia, Lindbohm, Rissanen, Keränen or Rynnäs for example.

-Pokka: In the AHL playoffs with the Rockford IceHogs.
-Pakarinen: Injured. Plus his team OKC is in the AHL is in the run.
-Armia: Available now, but wasn't so a week or so ago. Plus his level of play dropped after being traded.
-Lindbohm: In the AHL playoffs with the Chicago Wolves.
-Rissanen: Injured.
-Keränen: A black ace with the Wild.
-Rynnäs: I was not aware we needed a goalie. Even w/o Rinne, they would have had Koskinen.

This information is freely available in the net, by the way. Most stuff these days are, so there's no need for all the mutu analysis.

Don't think so. They even went to watch AHL-players this year.

Ofcourse they went so they could say that they went, but have to wonder his decisions. Does he really think that average europian team will beat nhl superstars?

The issue with Pulkkinen is this, I think: They have 12 forwards in the lineup, 13 with Komarov. That leaves room for only one skater more. And that slot's earmarked for Hytönen in case they need another centre.

Wait, did we have NHL superstars available? Other than Rinne, I mean.
