Axel Holmström just scored for SAIK.

Anton Blidh is a great PKer even on mens level, he will be valuable for us. Karlsson - Ehn - Blidh line will be tough for opponents.

Two goals by Holmström now. Kid's heating up. :yo:

I asked this on prospects board, but is Nylander expected to play centre or wing at WJC?

Also, if anyone's in the mood, can you break down which players you see as 'certain', who are 'on the cusp', and what you think will be the 'cut dates' for the team - i know SWE waits a bit longer to to make final cuts.

lol, i'm just asking for a brief response - not a lengthy treatise...although if you want to provide one, go ahead

The basic look of the team right now is likely something like this:

de la Rose - Wallmark - X
Kempe - Nylander - X
X - Holmström - X
X - Ehn - Blidh

Where the top two RW spots will be filled by two of Victor Olofsson, Adam Brodecki and Oskar Lindblom, and whoever misses out will play on the third line with Holmström. A reasonable guess would be that one of the '97-born, Lööke and Asplund, will be the last forward cut and the other will start as the 13th forward.

On defence I reckon it's tougher to say. Hägg and Norell were a pair much of last year's tournament, and played quite well. Aho is also a lock, and Grönborg flat out said Forsling will be relied upon to play a lot of minutes. Bergman is, for me, the wildcard, but as the only right shooting defenceman in the group, you'd imagine he gets a spot. My guess is that one of Lagesson and Englund will be the last D casualty, as they're fairly similar.

I could see quite a bit not being decided until the pre-tournament friendlies are played, though. Last year I think most expected Anton Karlsson to be cut, until he absolutely killed it in the warm-up games.

Burakovsky only played 8 minutes in his comeback. I don't see how they don't release him if that's the ice time he's going to get.

It would be better for the team to release him, but I guess it is prestige in it or just stupidity.

Well, they lose a forward option for a couple of weeks if they release him. I'm sure Grönborg, or whoever it is, keeps reminding them of how good F. Forsberg became after the WJC. Forsberg is perhaps not very popular in DC at the moment though.

Uh oh, did I miss some big news? Where's Kylington?

Kylington should have one of the spots on defence. He's unique with his skating and powerplay ability; I'd be surprised to see him left off. As it stands, there are eight defencemen in the squad.

Isn't he injured?

Posted this in june.

Bristedt - De la Rose - Burakovsky
Kempe - Wallmark - Nylander
V. Olofsson - Crus Rydberg - Brodecki
Karlsson - Forsbacka Karlsson - Blidh

Kylington - Norell
Aho - Pettersson
Hägg - Englund

15/18. Not too shabby.

This won't come as a surprise to most, but #Caps announce Andre Burakovsky will remain with team and will not play in 2015 WJC tournament.

no surprise. Should had gone with timashov.

Kempe - Nylander - Olofsson (chemistry)

Holmström - Wallmark - Lindblom (Homer can play wing)

Brodecki - JDLR - Lööke (Brynäs-connection, JDLR fits better here)

Karlsson - Ehn - Blidh (Seek & destroy)

Asplund (experience for the future)

Kylington - Hägg
Aho - Norell
Forsling - Englund
Lagesson

All D pairings have one offence, one defence. Lagesson for the grit factor.

What do you guys think the powerplay units will look like? Will Forsling get a shot on the first unit? I think he was Sweden's go to man for the powerplay in the U18 WJC, but Sweden has a few choices back there.

I don't believe they will play a guy(who might be captain) who was the number 1 RW last WJC on their 3rd line center....DLR will be on the first line with either Wallmark or Nylander and on the top PK and PP.
