Well, it's hard to say what team we will have, but so far Buchnevich is 3+2 in 6 games in KHL and playing 1st line minutes for his team. Tkachev looked really good for Oilers in the rookie tournament, Kamenev is 2+2 in KHL as 18-year old and playing for the reining champion under Keenan. And there are still a lot of good players in NA. It can be a very good team.

Strengths: Talent.
-This team will be very talented. Plenty of highly touted candidates to chose from.

Weaknesses: Size, lack of 2-way players.
-Not that Russia is known for 2-way playing, but this year is thin. Plus, a lot of talented midgets are candidates for key roles.

Though he's only played a few games, Ilya Sorokin has put up some pretty good numbers considering he plays for Kuznya.

Really excited to see Ivan Barbashev dress for Russia. He's been dominating junior hockey and I want to see him line up against the best players his age.

Barbashev didnt impress during the sss. Had he stayed in dinamo - hed be playing khl by now

I do not think they will win. I agree that there are too many short guys here. One of the scoring lines might have Tolchinsky and Golyshev on the wings.

The defense is decent. Buchnevich will be exciting to watch. I think he is a top prospect, even though most people do not yet know it.

When will they announce their camp roster?

The guys who are on the flight to Canada on 17th december are on the more interesting shorter list. The CHL players will take part in exhibition games. After that the final cuts will be made.

As an OS Attack fan, what are Damir Sharipzyanov's chances of making team russia?

They aren't close to zero as hinted here. But I assume the Zadorov decision by the Sabres might have an impact on that. There are 5 D-men I consider locks without Zadorov:

Glukhov, Gavrikov, Valiev, Rafikov, Yudin.

So there are 3 spots max left, 2 if Zadorov takes one.

Imo, his chances are high, not exactly a lock though, but there's a very good probability that he will make it (if he won't be too bad in exhibition games, of course).

He's pretty much a lock. Who would make it over him?

Oh c'mon, I can imagine Bragin takin' a non 1995 born defender only if his name starts with Pro- and ends with -vorov. The only chance for Sharipzyanov is that if he really will somehow tear everything apart in those exhibition games.

Zadorov (if in), Gavrikov, Rafikov, Yudin and Provorov (not totally sure, as age might matter in this case though) probably are ahead of him. Then I think there're Glukhov and Valiev. And looks like not far away are KHL guys. And if Valiev won't impress in exhibition, I can easily imagine that someone else is in from the group of KHL guys instead of him. Although I would prefer Valiev. :)

Im planning on going to the Russia-Finland pre-tournament game in Oshawa on December 21. Should be good. Tickets are $20-$30

See? The same 5 people basically. While Provorov can't be seen as a lock (due to age only of course). And sorry, Yudin? I know everybody somehow like him, but he's a liability on defence. Period.

For what it's worth.

My D would be:

No Zadorov! Let him play in the NHL. I'd want to see hin at the WC instead.

Rafikov
Gavrikov
Glukhov
Valiev
Provorov
Paigin
Sharipzyanov
Yudin(I know it's inevitable)

I don't like him at all, but I have to admit that Rafikov-Yudin pair worked fine at SSS and, you know - don't change anything if that's working (and especially if it is NT's D) :sarcasm:

Basically I agree, but I'm pretty sure I can recall that Bragin spoke more in favor of 7+13 (because of bad experience of 8+12 back in 2012), so still no place for Sharipzyanov in my version of D. :)

By the way, I think it is the first time in some years when it's really hard to at least approximately predict the line combos (except maybe Barbashev and Buchnevich at the first line). Don't know if it is a good sign or not though.
