If Zadorov is on this team, I say they become the favorites to win. Without him they're ok.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Buffalo let Zads go to the WJC. Only a couple hour drive from Buffalo plus with Nolan/Girgensons/Risto's international experiences the last couple seasons I think there's a definite argument that Buffalo likes the experience their players have been getting. I'm assuming Zadorov would see some pretty heavy minutes playing for Russia. There's also the fact that it makes our blueline worse for a few weeks and it wouldn't surprise me if Buffalo was on board with that.

On a personal level I'd love to see Zadorov with a chance to repeat Risto's heroics from last season.

I feel like the groundwork is being laid for Zadorov to be allowed to go. He said he wants to...and the team just saw what the experience meant for Ristolainen last year. Officially the team line is they'll start discussing it soon.

Can someone tell me more about Sharipzyanov? I have not seen him play.

Sharipzyanov is a great 2-way defenceman in the OHL, he plays for the Owen Sound Attack, which I have season tickets for, I do think he should play for Russia at the WJC, even if he plays on the 3rd pairing or a 7th D-man I would be happy for him he is a great player and person. He was selected in the 1st round of the 2013 OHL import draft by the Owen Sound Attack.

Yeah, I could see it happening. On the one hand, you've got a 19yo who's grown from healthy scratch to logging 20+ minutes a night in the NHL and doing a good job of it, and I think you pretty much always want your prospects learning and developing at the highest level they can compete at. On the other hand, the WJCs have been very good to our defensemen in recent years, with McCabe, Ristolainen, and Zadorov all earning WJC all-star honors, with 2 of them playing big roles on gold medal teams. This could be Zadorov's year to be that top guy on a winning team, which would obviously be a great experience for him to have.

Thanks. Sounds like a good player.

At this point is there a clear #1 goaltender for the Russians? If not, who is the favorite right now?
No clear no.1. It's even between Sorokin and Shesterkin. According to head coach the friendlies before the tournament against Finalnd and Canada migth have an impact on a decision, 'cause he likes to have a starter.

Buffalo is starting to hurt for d man. With the way they are playing and the way Zadorov is playing, don't see them letting him go. It doesn't benefit Buffalo one bit.

You seem to have a good handle on this, if you had to guess, who would be your favorite to be the #1 goalie ?

Um...they have two other D in the pressbox who are only day to day with injuries AND 3 NHL ready D in Rochester (McCabe, Pysyk, Ruhwedel). The benefit is to the PLAYER. This year is about developing the young guys and putting them where they best get that. Hence Reinhart was sent back, good players left in AHL...and Zadorov probably going to WJ.

It's really pretty even for now.

Sorokin has had a great start in the KHL, then cooled off significantly(but it's the KHL and he is on a bad team). He hasn't played at the SSS. Really tough to predict how good he will play right here and now.

Shesterkin hasn't played much at all being in limbo between the KHL team with 2 guys ahead of him and the MHL, but the smarta**es wouldn't just let him play in the MHL because they have mess of their own with their top goaltenders. When Shesterkin played he was good. And he's had a great SSS showing.

Talentwise they are pretty even too in my book.

Bragin will really let them play for it. Whoever will impress more in the last games before the tournament will get the nod. Right now it might be in favor of Shesterkin just a bit on the wave of the SSS success, but if Sorokin shuts down the Finns or Canadians(whatever game he gets) that might change.

Even with Zadorov there is no way anyone has the Russians as favorites to win. Just not enough high end talent.

Who is "anyone"?

Your neighbor? Some guy on hfboards? Jason Kay of The Hockey News?

All about equally uninformed.

Russia is always the least-known-about team at WJC, because there is no existing English-language coverage of their junior players.

Everyone will be j*zzing themselves with excrement about Buchnevich by the time this tournament is done.

Mez, Strachan, and Weber are hurt.

Those players in Rochester don't come close to the skill of Zads.

Zads isn't going to benefit from playing against teenagers more than playing in the NHL. Reinhart was sent back because he wasn't ready, Zads has proven he is more than ready.

Zadorov tells me there's still no talks with GMTM about World Juniors. W/injuries here, he doesn't want to leave. (1/2)

Mike Harrington @BNHarrington 3m
Zadorov: "I love my country and the chance to play for them. But this is the best league in the world. Why send me somewhere?" #Sabres

Mike Harrington @BNHarrington 1m
More Zadorov: "It's better for me to play in the big time and to help my team win every game." #Sabres

Official.

Ted Nolan also said Nikita Zadorov won't be going to the world junior championship w/Russia. #Sabres

To be favorite. How many first round picks do they have? top 10s? Now check the teams that are the real favorites. Not saying they won't win, just that there is no way they have the talent of the top teams

Top 10 picks, don't let numbers get to you, the NHL draft is a joke. Tarasenko was a top 3 player in 2010 yet went what, 17 or 18. Same for Buchnevich being a top pick, and so on and on. Draft means nothing other then boosting a player's ego in a glorified show made for tv, and means even less when concerning Russian players since NHL gm's still live in the 60's and think there's a curtain that will prohibit players from coming over when all Russian players will be coming over.

But yes, the lmao was quite overdone since this edition of Russia has no one comparable to McDavid or Eichel in terms of high end talent.

Though a poster above mentioned '' Everyone will be ****** themselves '' watching Buchnevich, I can't imagine what the Hockey world will be doing watching McDavid and Eichel lol.

And looks like it's been announced Zadorov who would have been their best player is not coming as well.

This is the dumbest thing I've read in a while, so by that logic Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Lidstrom have nowhere near the talent of Scott Glennie or James Sheppard.........
