Expecting Denmark to compete at staying up against Germany, with Germany taking it home.

Denmark look solid on offense and in goal, but the D is going to give them trouble.

One good thing about the team, is there are a lot of carry overs from last years winning (D1) U20 team, to give a little cohesion.

Bjorkstrand and Ehlers will be fun to watch in this tournament, and could possibly win games through their offense. Maybe not against a team like Canada, but some of the lower-tiered teams they could get a lucky break. It seems that Denmark going into the Tournament has the edge over Germany, and if they meet in the relegation round, Denmark could be the team that ends up staying up for another year.

From what I understand, this is the team that will also be playing in the Jr A World Challenge, so players like Bjorkstrand and True could be away from their WHL teams for almost a month.

The thing with smaller hockey nations is that there's always a lot of carry overs from the last year simply because there aren't enough decent players in every age group. :)

Actually this has not been the case With Denmark. Supposedly the team with the most since the team last year Was quite young.

Denmark are deeper than ever on offense.

Do you guys expect Alexander True to make this year team? Maybe someone can tell me few words about him and his latest overseas performances? Hope Denmark avoid relegation, but I'm nt sure about this defence and small goalies...

If his play with Seattle is any indication, he should definitely make the team. Centers the second line and does well in the faceoff circle. Has great agility for his size and isn't afraid to skate in a straight line with the puck right to the net. I think he's been a great find for the Thunderbirds and will only get better.

Ill be back With more info guys, enjoying the Sun in Thailand with the wife for next few weeks :)

Have a nice trip! :naughty:

Any lines formations?

Let me give it a try, even though some of the players I mention may not be in the final roster.

George Sørensen
Thomas Lillie

Anders Krogsgaard - Sonny Hertzberg
Matias Lassen - Mads Larsen
Victor Eskerod - Daniel Nielsen

Mads Eller - Mikkel Aagaard - Oliver Bjorkstrand
Matthias Asperup - Christian Kristiansen - Nikolaj Ehlers
Emil Møller Rasmussen - Marcus Nielsen - Kristian Jensen
Marcus Jensen - Nick Olesen - Søren Dau Mortensen

Really looking forward to this tournament. A player that for me stood out last year in Poland, and I had not heard of before was Mads Larsen who played a great tournament.

Is there a reason why Alexander True has been left out of your starting roster?

No, I have only left Alexander True out of my starting roster because of his age. He has the advantage that he is used to play on the small rinks, but I am not sure it will be enough to break the roster.

But we will soon know the roster that will go to NA; I believe it will be announced within the next few days. Coach Olaf Eller will bring a couple of extra players to the pre-tournament games, so we will probably have to wait until just before the start of the WJC to know the final roster.

Let me give it a try:

George Sørensen
Thomas Lillie

Anders Krogsgaard - Sonny Hertzberg
Christian Mieritz - Mads Larsen
Daniel Nielsen - Matias Lassen

Mattias Asperup - Mikkel Aagaard - Nikolaj Ehlers
Mads Eller - Alexander True - Oliver Bjorkstrand
Kristian Jensen - Christian Kristiansen - Søren Dau Mortensen
Nick Olesen - Marcus Nielsen - André Pison

But strong players like - Emil Møller Rasmussen, Markus Jensen, Victor Eskerod, Søren Nielsen and more, will fight for a roster spot.

No Ehlers or Bjorkstrand ?

Is True expected to be drafted in the 1st round?

Another Jets fan! I was just wondering what kind of team Denmark might put together. Looking forward to seeing Ehlers in the tournament, I really think he's among the top 5 players in the CHL right now, and I've gotten to be jealous of Columbus for picking Bjorkstrand as a result of following Petan and DeLeo in Portland.

It seems like Denmark is starting to produce more and more high quality hockey players. Could it be that long before they're up there with Sweden, Finland and Czech Republic as part of the 1B tier (after Canada, USA and Russia) of international hockey?

Lol at Sweden and Finland in a second tier, Sweden won silver at the Olympics and WJC last year and have had great results and Finland won the WJC tournament. Denmarks goal should be to make it to Slovakia's level first and not be trying to avoid relegation every time they make the top division.

No, thats not going to happen anytime soon. Well, maybe in our dreams, but realistic we are lucky if we get one or two drafted each year.

Just finished watching the game vs. canada west.
my notes:
Lillie moves really well, and was fantastic in the entire game. Very good rebound control and good movement, and covers the posts well.
The Bjorkstrand-Eller-Ehlers line got a lot of icetime and were clearly the best line on the ice for both teams. Ehlers is clearly in top form at the moment and he was dominating out there. Decent chemistry too, especially between Bjorkstrand and Ehlers, but we knew this already.

Canada West created a lot of shots and controlled the puck alot, especially in the first, but denmark were clearly the more dangerous team and the speed on this team is rather terrifying on the counter.
Defense looked good in the 1st period. Mads Larsen had some good shifts.
Aagaard with a lovely first timer for the 1st goal. No chances for the goalie.
Matthias Asperup impressed me a whole lot. Tons of speed, aggresive skating, and good hands.
Played well with Rasmussen and Aagaard.
He was on powerplay with Ehlers, Bjorkstrand and Eller and that was probably the most impressive unit out there. He seemed to fit in perfectly and they had the canadians playing confused backwards...The PP seemed a little less effective when we got set up and played the puck around. Not bad, but not as dangerous as when we launched the rush.
The penalty kill defended very well, and Lillie stepped it up a notch in the 3rd period and pulled off some really good saves.

Very good game, and very hard fought. There was some aggression from both teams, and some chipping back and fourth without it never going out of control or leading to any fisticuffs. Just some talking back and fourth.

Overall, I think this was a great start and a confidence boost.

This is ofcourse not the same competition we will face at the world juniors but it was still against some good junior players.

We are producing good talent, but we are very, very far from anything like that. We have stayed in the 1st team of the world championship on the senior side since 2003, though great fight, some pretty good players and a bit of luck and that has helped a lot in getting noticed in the hockey world. But we are still an extremely small hockey country and the depth and quite poor. We are not able to consistently perform in junior ranks, and the immediate goal is survival as often as possible. We have a team this year that has the possibility of surviving this year, but we are still the underdog against Germany and Switzerland.

its easier at the senior level because we can rely on those few NHL players who are not in the PO or knocked out early with a whole bunch of solid veteran players playing in in europe to provide enough to survive.

But the generations at junior level will always be less consistent.

Sweden or Finland level is never in reach, but we hope to be able to reach slovakia level consistently at some point. First at the senior side and later at the junior side.
But its still a ways off. We are still a team outside of the top ten.
