Canadian hockey fans are the best.

Good tournament for Canada (a bit lucky in the final game I think) and hopefully a blueprint that they will continue to use. Bring the best players, roll at least three scoring lines, and if you're going to pick roll players at least put them in the right position to succeed. Hopefully they can figure out how to play Russia at the junior level (Russia gets down and the forwards break out as fast as possible even in dangerous situations... probably the defencemen shouldn't pinch) and build on this. Goaltending was good overall for Canada as well. Have to be content.

I'm interested to see what Reinhart can do at the next level, as I felt he contributed to Canada in a way not seen since Bergeron in 2005. Best player on the team and really, really intelligent.

It was a great tournament for Canada. There is a wicked amount of pressure on Canadian teams but this drought business thankfully is over. Five on five there is not a team even close to us. Isn't it ironic that the the two players of the tournament- Domi and Nurse were both snubbed last year.
I take back almost everything i said about Gauthier. I think he is great role player. Couldn't put the puck in a soccer net but played his heart out.
Who stood out in my mind- except for the obvious- was Crouse, Hickets and Heatherington( a few whiffs and blown tires here and there but good minutes to give the top four some breathing room). Who disappointed me the most were the two guys that took penalties leading to an almost blown game- Virtanen and Morin. Someone will have to explain their value except for the big body theory to me. Petan was off his game but Point, Paul and Ritchie had a very good game from what i saw.
well coached- good job boys. The right team won and that's the way it should be.

ditto. He played his role and played it well.

Can't decide who I like seeing cry more, the US or the Russians!

But...but...but...Ho Sang wasn't on the team! :sarcasm:

I think Bergeron is a good comparable for Reinhart, too, in terms of the type of player I think he'll become in the NHL. I also thought he was the best player on the team, not only because of his production but also his defensive play, PKing, faceoffs, and leadership presence (which IMO was very noticeable). He did a lot to steady and stabilize that line, which was important as Domi & Duclair are the "flashier", higher-end skill guys. Neither guy is the greatest skater or the biggest/most physically imposing center, but both possess well-rounded offensive games and of course the ability to contribute heavily in every other aspect of the game. He's a future #1B center (like Bergeron), in my view.

I'm the biggest Bergeron fan in the world (seriously), but I think Reinhart has much more offensive potential. Someone on the Bruins board said something like "he reminds me of Bergeron with Krejci's patience/playmaking with the puck", and I sort of got that impression as well. Bergeron is more a straight-line player in the offensive zone (get to open space, get pucks on net or work it around down deep), whereas I see more creativity in Reinhart.

I certainly agree that Reinhart has shown more creativity and pure skill in the playmaking department as compared to Bergeron, but then again I thought Bergeron was more physically advanced in the 2005 tournament than Reinhart was in 2015. I have no doubt that Reinhart will eventually be a more productive (in terms of pure points) NHL player than Bergeron, as he does have those elite offensive instincts that Bergeron perhaps lacks.

No two players are exactly the same (obviously), I was comparing two guys who at first blush have similar "cerebral" styles, builds, and skating ability, but when you start peeling back the onion you find that they can contribute to a team in so many ways that aren't always obvious. Buffalo has a pretty exciting prospect on their hands.

Re. Reinhart - I agree. And I hope I'm not that delusional now when I think he could be on Team Canada's roster for 2020 wc.. maybe. I can't wait to see him and Domi in the NHL...and Darnell Nurse too, he's a beast! He reminds me of Pronger. And also Crouse, for a 17 year old, he was very good.

So Hicketts will be the only returnee on D, that could hurt them with inexperience. Upfront a few will be back at least.

They showed this years numbers and compared to the 2005 Canada team. This years team was just as dominant as that team was based on the stats. McDavid is nasty too, once he shook the rust off he was untouchable out there.

Good to see the streak broken

Yes, I agree that they're similar. I'm not convinced that he will necessarily be a better scorer in the NHL (Bergeron can put up 30 goals and 60 points despite heavy defensive lifting) but he can still be very useful for Canada.

I'm skeptical that Domi will do much at the NHL level, and I really doubt that Reinhart will be team Canada ready in only four years, but who knows. Nurse definitely has loads of potential.

This team was on the upper end for Canada, but it doesn't really touch the 2005 team (or 1995). They performed very well though.

Maybe I missed it, but did we ever acknowledge the posters who correctly predicted the Team Canada roster/lines/d-pairings?

Would be interesting to see who was the closest now that we know how everything turned out and which players filled which roles.

I went back and looked at some of the projections from a year ago and a lot were pretty close, didn't see anyone perfect. A bunch of people saying that there was no way Reinhart would be back for this tournament.

I will say I remember people saying Fucale should never be on this team and that we would lose and that Gauthier was a complete roster spot waste.

Best team since 2005.

So proud of the way the boys played. Good to be Canadian!! Gold back where it belongs.

Hockey is Canada's game.

Canada was simply too strong offensively this year, 7-0-0 and they scored no less than 5 goals in every single game!

Canada has 6 junior golds in the past 10 years.

It'd be incredible if you're right but it'd be hard to surpass Crosby, Bergeron, Perry, Getzlaf, Weber, Carter, Seabrook, Phaneuf, Ladd, Richards, MacArthur, and Coburn.

Those are the 2005 players. This team did not pass them in performance and has essentially no chance in terms of career performance.
