If Ek signs 5M x 7 with us, that’s a good deal.
If Ek signs 10M x 7 with our rival, that’s a good deal for us too.

I think he's going to be an replacement (imo a decent upgrade) for Ekky or at least Zito and his pro-scouts are banking on that. If Ekky feels like he's deserving of a 10milx7 deal instead of some meager 5milx6 proposal from the Panthers then Zito doesn't feel the pressure to cave into Ekky's demands when Jones is locked up for the next five years. Good move by Zito, can't complain even though Knight had to go.

Ekky is more like 5mil dman for the Panthers but some other (rebuilding) team with plenty of cap space at their disposal might want to overpay significantly for Ekky's services.

But the board seems pretty split.

There is no reason for Jones to succeed here, many here are over exaggerating about him, he has always been a good player, PoMo said it better, "there was a lot of responsibilities for Jones in a young team, and that was all on him", he has never played for a top tier team like ours, we will see more PK and Breakaway goals, because he brings the mobility and speed of Montour, he is highly dynamic, if you watch his game style, he already plays Panthers style game on his own, because he had to on a young team.

I never liked Knight, until this year, he was having a great solid year, I actually felt more worried with Bobo on net this year, because of the softies he has been giving up this year. Knight has grown on me by a lot, by understand why they have to make that trade now, we will be good for a ton of years now, this is our time and I think is a good use of our resources of which we do not have much.

Zito is doing gymnastics with the little room we have for acquisitions, so, credit to his skills.

If he keeps Bennett and Ekblad, then we all have to get a "Z" Zitto tattoo in las Olas.

I am intrigued by that goalie we saw last night, that was awesome.

Future of the net shouldn’t be a massive concern right now. From today to offseason -26 the cap should be up 15 million, Bob’s 10M contract will be off the books. Zito can basically go after any goalie he prefers next year

The window for winning for Panthers is the next 2, 3, 4 years and Jones gives them a better chance than Knight for the next 2 years

Give yourself the best chance to win now, -26 and buy any goalie they want with the cap space

This a very good looking team without Knight, and a scary team for the rest of the league, I feel this all driven by the Bennet and Ekblad negotiations, having all of these into consideration, Zito knows best.
