Way too man odd man rushes, Bowey and Nurse have got to pick their spots better. Also I have no faith in Fucale, if he starts it will be like Visentin all over again. His best Save % is .909 despite being on loaded teams every year except this one, he is not the man for the job.

I didn't like putting Point with the big boys on the 4th line. They were rolling by using their size and Point negated that somewhat. Keep Crouse back there if he's OK.

He's given up 2 goals all tournament....

On another note, remember all those people who wanted to leave Petan off their rosters before the tournament because they thought he was redundant.. Yeah.. How about that?

Agreed. Nurse jumps in way too much, and Bowey makes terrible decisions. The coaches have to really let them know.

I'd go with,

Lazar-McDavid-Petan
Domi-Reinhart-Duclair
Ritchie-Gauthier-Crouse
Point-Paul-Virtanen

Promote McDavid's line to #1, they've been better since the games have mattered. Gautheir's up to Line 3 since Petan is off that line and they've controlled the play down low. Play the 4th line sparingly.

Against weak competition and they were very savable shots, stats aren't everything, you can just tell by watching him he makes easy saves seem like an adventure.

Fucale will start. You don't change your starter for the gold medal after the one goalie got you there.

The 2-on-1 was a "very saveable shot"? Alright, whatever you say. And the last part is completely your interpretation, which doesn't mean it's right. He hasn't done anything to supplant himself from this position so I guess we'll just have to see how he performs for gold.

Agree with all of this, except the swapping of the 3rd and 4th lines. The speed of the Russians can exploit the Ritchie-Gauthier-Crouse line, and it will be much harder to generate offence against the Russians.

I don't like the looks of Point-Paul-Virtanen, especially with Virtanen playing injured and Paul showing very little all tournament...but it's still more capable of generating offensive scoring opportunities.

Top 6 better come to play.

It wasn't a weak goal but it was definitely savable, and the rebound he gave up on the goal that was disallowed was pretty bad. Don't get me wrong I hope he turns in a stellar performance as we all know he will start just saying I'm not that confident in him and would feel better with Comrie in net.

Nurse has been the best player on the team! Do you just pick a random player every game and rip on them?

Or something like that...

I disagree, besides his one rush that let to Petan's second goal he hasn't played well. He's a good puck carrier in the neutral zone but he holds on to the puck far too long in the offensive zone and seems to always bring the puck to the corner then lose it, making his entire effort redundant.

I'm all for him carrying the puck into the zone but he should be passing to the trailing forwards who have better hands and offensive vision than he does.

 It was sarcasm. Someone said that to me when I ripped on his play last game.

Lazar leading in many different ways, including the whole tournament in faceoffs at 70.27%.

And Comrie let in a stinker (third USA goal) and absolutely overcommitted on the first USA goal, which made him unable to even contest the actual shot that led to the goal. Let's not act like Comrie's been playing stellar in this tournament.

Do you have a source for that?

OP would know better but I'd be surprised if there is any 'confirmed' reports out there 1 day before the gold medal game. But he definitely isn't skating like he was earlier in the tournament so maybe there is something there. Doubt we'll know either way until after Monday.

Let's just put it at spade of spade, his Hockey sense does not match his physical gift injured or not. He can't think the game at a level needed to have an edge on the opponent. Hopefully he can use that outside speed and take it to the net tomorrow night, he has the potential to cause the Russian dmen to be surprised by his speed, or would love to see a set play where he goes around the net like he always does and the dman comes rushing in and jumps in, because that plays leads to nothing most times.

Completely agree. We have 3 lines with good chemistry now and 3 extra guys who are good in their own right but haven't exactly clicked really this tournament. Use them a little bit to see if anything is there but for the latter half of the game I would just roll three lines. All these guys are more capable of playing big minutes.

The Russians are a whole other animal than Denmark or Slovakia though. We might still need to shake things up a tad which is the nice part of having Point, Paul and Virtanen to slot in if needed.

The Crouse-Gauthier-Ritchie line should be getting mad props from people for the way they're playing these past few games (ever since Ritchie was put on the line). They were absolutely dominant in hemming the opposition in their own zone. They were generating chances around the net because the other team couldn't move them or get the puck off them. That wears the opposition down over the course of 60 minutes.

It's especially fitting how good they've been considering all three guys (especially Gauthier and Crouse) were hugely criticized for even making the team. Maybe building a team actually consists of not just taking the players with the most points leading up to camp, eh?

I hope McDavid really plays well against Russia because, otherwise, people will say he pulled a "Kessel" and ran up points against weak teams while disappeared against tough ones - and it will be hard to argue it.

Russia is a good team. Time for McDavid to show he can play really well against stiff competition.

in this tournament usually stats go up against weaker opponents, the same opponent everyone else faces, so I don't see what the issue truly is. Just a bunch of jealous haters again that will never play good hockey and taking a cheapshot at a kid who is spoken as the next great hockey player.

outright disgraceful, this forum did the very same thing to Sidney Crosby.

I am just saying he needs to perform against the top teams as well. Otherwise his World Junior performance will be remember like his U18 performance 2 years ago. Lots of points against weak team but disappeared against the tough ones.
