We need an actual offensive beast on the backend like the Americans will bring. I thought we looked average at best from the D when we were in the other team's zone.

Was there a reason why Fabbri didn't get much ice time?

my assumption is that he is already on the squad and didnt want him playing too much with different players if the plan is to have him with mcdavid

The one goal we had was top shelf, I didn't see any other shots that were going up high. Sorokin isn't that big, he leaves space up high and Morrissey just banged one up high. Instead of shots that don't go high, just try to give yourself extra time to get a shot higher. There will be holes in a goaltender and they just have to execute on the chances.

Hes 6'2 and plays big as he is always at the top of the crease and is very aggressive in the net. Calling him not big would only be fair if you were comparing him to Ben Bishop

Probably because they wanted to see more of Gauthier, Paul, Ritchie, Dickinson, Crouse and Chartier.

We have a whole bunch, this is the first game and chemistry takes longer to develop for defencemen than forwards. I thought Morrissey showed alot of skill to hold the puck in and attack at the blue line but also snipe. Nurse rushed the puck up and I think he should get the green light to forecheck because he hits hard and has good speed, him and Bowey both have big shots. Theodore wasn't too good offensively but I liked him defensively, Morin can skate the puck in and shoot.

I like the core, it's mobile and I expected more offensively but defensively it was really good. They kept the Russians to the outside, barely any chances and buried them in the corners. It was textbook, nothing after the 1st.

Agreed.

Morin definitely has his assets, but he has that typical big man tentativeness, looks like he could make a big turnover at the wrong time.

he does. None of the d played with much confidence.

Morrissey and nurse stood out for me but everyone else was really lackluster especially so called locks like theodore and bowey.

He's probably a lock, but I thought he looked shaky at both ends.

Team CAN will be making cuts tonight.

My cuts would be: Chartier and Morin/Heatherington. Leaning toward Morin though. Jeez it's hard, Crouse, Gauthier and Dickinson are the ones battling for a spot. Dal Colle wasn't too good but he's capable of being great and I think he'll catch on fire this tournament.

Yeah he is at the top of his crease so I guess low to high like how Domi and Morrissey did it is the way to go and then shoot high when he's trying to challenge.

Defensively we were fine. Nurse's rush was great and Morrissey's shot was awesome... but what did Nurse do after he got the zone? Lost the puck (and I'm a massive Nurse fan, too).

I'm saying we don't have a Butcher, Hanafin, DeAngelo. All our dmen did when they got the puck was side step and pass/shoot. We don't have a guy back there that can make a move with the puck and generate offense. Imo, we put 50+ shots on this goalie tonight but we didn't look all that great. We dominated the game and had zone time but it was mainly to the outside. We looked like an Oilers pp for 50 minutes there tonight.

Yeah, you can say that.

But, I believe these guys are capable of a massive offensive play with a shot or a rush up the ice. Hopefully they get going soon, just the first game.

nurse is going to have to work on his wrister and slapshot . He can skate into the zone but once he is there he is not really a threat to score.

Probably Chartier and Dickinson are the cuts tonight and they'll let Gauthier,Crouse,Dal Colle / Heatherington,Morin fight for the last two spots sunday

What were Gauthier's #'s in the dot? He looked impressive. There were about three consecutive shifts in the 2nd period where he won it cleanly to the point, and a scoring chance ensued. Valuable player to have.

about 75% I guess

Such a shame that a solid line worth of players aren't released every year.... Then we have to hear from Bob "what is wrong with Can program?".
World Juniors and World Championships don't often roster our best talent.

Did anyone see the last Olympics ......domination!

Now we need Tampa to do the same with Drouin
Horvat should be going as well. Playing 4th line minutes in Vancouver and isn't a factor on most nights.

That didnt stop us though from 2006-2009. And in 2010 and 2011 when we are missing even more talent then now we came within minutes of taking Gold.

All of a sudden now its an excuse?

Everybody played in 2013

Not Ryan Murray.

Derrick Pouliot was also inexplicably cut. So while we had a stacked offence, we didn't have a great defensive squad.

Also questionable cuts included Sean Monahan, who didnt even make the final round, and Hunter Shinkaruk.

Gino Reda ‏@GinoRedaTSN 6m6 minutes ago

Final cuts for the Canadian Jr Team coming shortly. For some a life long dream will end. Must be so difficult.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 7m7 minutes ago

“@markhmasters: Groulx was less enthusiastic about the Dal Colle-Dickinson-Chartier line.” Three forwards still to be cut.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 11m11 minutes ago

“@markhmasters: Groulx fairly positive about Crouse, Gauthier in post-game comments.” Crouse-Gauthier-Virtanen line was good.
