Terrific interview by young Lazar. This boy exudes confidence, dedication to his craft, leadership, and all the key ingredients required to be a a successful person.

No offense to any other player that could have possibly been loaned, but he was by far the most important player and person that this team needed.

They now have a leader who'll guide them, which is something this team has also been missing for the past couple of years.

Oh boy, can't wait until boxing day, it's been a long time since Canada has had a team as gifted as this one is going to be. Probably the 2009 or 2010 team I'd say.

I agree, I feel confident but at the same time it would be a big disappointment if we don't win.

I dont know the lockout year (2013) they had a better team imo and that was a pretty crushing result.

Don't think so, the depth on this team dwarfs 2013, and that team was overhyped from the beginning just because of a lockout, when in reality only Nuge would have been in the NHL.

The offensive potential of this team overall and the defensive collection assembled is a group I would take any day of the week over that ''overhyped'' 2013 team.

I mean if I recall, J.C Lipon, Mark McNeil, Boone Jenner, Danault, Camara, you've got to be kidding me, where are most of those players now. This team is loaded with almost sure fire NHLer's as well, it's quite ridiculous actually.
And finally glad to see we're going to have 3 sure fire pure offensive lines that have the potential to produce, that team was pretty much a one and a half team.

Oh boy, even the defense was putrid, Wotherspoon, Murphy, Harrington, looking back on that group, it's no wonder they collasped.

But it's no wonder, looking back on 1993,1994 born Canadians, it's the worst birth group in a long time. It all changed again with absolute powerhouse 1995's, add the dazzling players from 1996 group and a phenom 1997, which now explains why everyone should be excited about the potential of this team compared to the previous 5 years.

Your looking at just the negatives and you can find negatives in this roster as well even on depth we see disagreements here. And you can ask where some of those players are now but we will be doing the same with this roster in 2 years with some players, not every world jr player pans out, many struggle in the nhl. Some of them such as rattie are in the ahl playing very well but stuck in the blues depth chart, brett ritchie just won an ahl calder cup with dallas and was the best player they had in the ahl last year, some of these guys are still young and will still be in the nhl. Jenner is doing just fine for the blue jackets.

A lineup of RNH, Mackinnon, drouin, strome, hubredeau, griffin reinhart, morgan riely, dougie hamilton, scheifle is a fantastic roster.

Im glad your excited, i hope they win gold to, people thought the roster above was practically a lock 2 years ago for gold, i think its a very good roster, i just dont agree its the best we have had in years (2013 roster was good enough to win gold), its up their though.

Gibson Jones Trouba Gostisbehere mccabe gibson galchenyuk, gaudreau, gibson, miller, gibson.

ANd the roster the us is putting together is probably the most talented and deepest they've ever assembled.

I am talking from just looking at his stat line... but am I the only one that feels that there has to be someone better than Crouse for that 4th line? what does he bring to the table that we can overlook his offensive ability

For me, with the guys Hockey Canada has narrowed it down to, i'd go with something like:

1a:Domi-Reinhart-Duclair
1b:Fabbri-McDavid-Lazar
2a:DalColle-Petan-Ritchie
2b:Crouse-Point-Virtanen
Spare:Dickinson

Eschew the "matchup line" and just go power on power with your best players. Really, any of those lines should be able to hold their own defensively, and you can't tell me a line with Reinhart/McDavid and a winger capable of holding their own defensively at the NHL level is a liability here. Slot Dickinson in for some more defensive assignments/zone starts as needed. Bring speed. Roll 1A/1B with similar minutes, and 2A/2B with similar minutes as well...keep everyone fresh in a short/compact tournament so they've got plenty left to give in the medal rounds (as Groulx indicated - short shifts, guys playing a lot less than they may be used to with their Club teams).

Instead we'll probably see a purported specialist "shutdown line" featuring Gauthier out there for a ton of the most crucial minutes against other team's top lines just trying to break even and stave off goals against. :shakehead

On the blueline, Hicketts would probably be my final cut...but i get the impression Hockey Canada and Groulx kind of adore him, so i'm assuming he'll be there. Fleury would be my odd man out if they're taking Hicketts.

Nurse-Bowey
Morin-Theodore
Heatherington-Morrissey
*Hicketts/Fleury

Fabbri-McDavid-Lazar
Domi-Reinhart-Duclair
MDC-Petan-Virtanen
Point-Gauthier-Crouse

Nurse-Hicketts
Morissey-Bowey
Morin-Theodore

Team is so loaded this year.. I want Point higher in my lineup but there is just no room.

This struggle is real. Just has so much skill and that sparkplug ability. But this team has so much potential depth, it's tough. It's good though...just roll 4 lines, keep guys minutes in check across the board and there's plenty left over for a legitimately good 4th line to play and contribute. That kind of thing can pay huge dividends in a short/compact tournament like that when you get to the 3rd period of the final game and everyone is still fresh and has a ton of jump.

The whole Brayden Point thing is compounded by the fact that i really want them to find a way to get Point+Virtanen on a line together though. It just seems like a perfect fit. They play their best hockey at that same sort of high tempo, complement one another nicely, and the times they have ended up on the ice together, it seems to produce some sparks. At the very least, i'd be trying to get them out there together on the PP.

Dont know if anyone seen bob mckenzies roster based on what he thinks team canada will have it look like.

He had

Fabbri Mcdavid Lazar
Domi Reinhart Duclair
Petan Point Virtanen
Ritchie Paul Crouse

MDC Gauthier
Dickinson
Chartier

He said whoever of those remaining does not play well friday they will be cut.
I really hope Bobby Mac is wrong about Ritchie. Those other guys have stood out more than him while not making bone-headed plays like he has. And yeah I think Gauthier is out since Lazar can handle the PK minutes. That lineup is perfect if MDC and Ritchie are swapped, with Dickinson or Chartier being the 13th forward.

As Nick Paul is probably a lock. Senators brass probably had conditions for Paul if Lazar was to be loaned.

Really doubt that. Bryan Murray and Pierre Dorion likely have way too much respect for Team Canada and the development system to put a condition on the Lazar loan. Plus they are smart enough to realize that the worst thing for Nick Paul would be to have him there when the coaches/staff wanted someone else.

I think you are right but Boone Jenner has a very good career beginning so far and he is a centerpiece of the Blue Jackets rebuilt.

Just described Lazar.

Pretty futile argument considering we've seen lazar play center in the nhl, sometimes against star talent, and he's at many times lead by example in terms of how to play a very detailed two way game.

You can argue horvat is better for that role, but either way canada basically gets a new player to fill it's "most mature two way forward" spot.

If lazar plays shutdown, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get the upper hand regardless of the matchup

Yeah and you tout Lazar all you want as well but at the end of the day all it is is your opinion and you know what they say about opinions :p: I will give you some facts though. Bo is much better in the face off circle, gifted actually as he is has a .560 winning FO % in the NHL where as Lazar is considerably behind but respectable .462. I watched one game in which he won 12 of 13 draws against Chicago and destroyed Toews in the FO circle so we know for sure who is best in FO's. As well, Bo has always been very advanced in the checking department. Think about it. Ottawa deemed Lazar expendable for the Junior tournament meaning they wouldn't miss him much where as Vancouver were not about to let him go. Mind you Kassian is out with an injury as well but still.
