Yay Stars

end of 3, tied at 3.

I think it's a good result for the team, where the Rangers had a considerable edge in the age of their club and a lot of college guys that are a bit more used to the pro style game. If not for all those penalties we would have had this one in regulation. Big edge in even strength play to the Stars.

I'm pretty sure I've heard that before. Do they play the extra 5 minutes here or straight regulation?

On the Young Stars stream they said that the tournament will be doing the 4 on 4 then 3 on 3 overtime so I'm guessing they'll be doing the same in Traverse City. Now I really wish we had a stream because that sounds potentially messy

Nice come back win, Ritchie will make the team this year with a good camp/preseason.

yup Ritchie comes up huge in the clutch twice, and the Stars win the game.. he had a primary assist on the 2nd goal too, so that's about as big an impact as you can have on the game.

Despite some poor discipline and a rough start for Desrosiers, the Stars come through! Carolina showed in their game that they can really exploit on the powerplay, so the Stars are going to need to clean that up.

Two goals and an assist for Ritchie. I hope he keeps it up and earns that second line spot out of camp

Dallas 34 minutes on 10 infractions NY Rangers 15 minutes on 6 infractions

Ouch

my insane idea:

Nichushkin - Seguin - Hemsky
Benn - Spezza - Ritchie

I mean the top line will play with tremendous speed, and the 2nd line would be a slower puck possession style.

I'm just trying to think out of the box on how best to spread out the talent..

I know they would never actually split up Benn and Seguin :p:

I like it to be honest. Might not hurt to try when you have so much talent up top.

Val's pretty decent defensively and Spezza's a good faceoff guy. If they can avoid the other team's checking line and quite possibly top line they'd probably be okay. At least to the point to where they score more than they give up.

Beyond Ritchie though, can they dump Cole with his cap hit and NTC? I'd be much happier if we could.

Problem is that second line is a nightmare defensively.
Would it be that much better with Cole on that line instead like most are predicting? I don't think so. Nuke is solid defensively and Ritchie has been used on a shutdown line before. I think they would be fine. Their puck possession alone would be an effective way of keeping the opposition from generating scoring chances.

the issue there is faceoffs. Seguin would have to have improved immensely on the dot to even try it. Otherwise I wouldn't be opposed to seeing that combo.

I was actually about to suggest the same thing

If only we had two Jamie Benns

Well faceoffs aren't the huge deal everyone makes them out to be in my opinion. A great possession line will over-come that pretty quickly. If it is that big of concern you give them tons of neutral zone starts, give the Benn - Spezza - Ritchie line the offensive zone starts to take advantage of Spezza's talent at the dot, and the checking line does the heavy lifting in their own end.

Like I said I'm not opposed to it but some nights when Seguin struggles to the tune of >40% it would be an issue. Either way I'd love to see them look at those combos at least once in preseason.

Nice to see the big guns up front doing exactly what you'd expect them to. Ritchie should absolutely dominate this tournament.
