When Antoine Vermette is ever remotely considered for the role of captain of anything other than a church softball league team, let me know.

There's enough guys who are captain-type material for Callahan to really add much of anything in that regard.

Comparing the two players...

Vermette had four 20-goal seasons, Callahan three
Neither has scored 30 in a season, both have one season of 25+
Vermette has two 50-point seasons, Callahan one
Vermtte has a career high of 65 points, Callahan 54
Vermette can play up the middle and on the wing, Callahan cannot

And if we account for the age difference, the only thing that would need to be removed from Vermette is one of those 20-goal seasons that has come after age 27. Callahan will be 29 in two months.

According to Pierre LeBrun the Canucks are ready to call it a year and build for next year. Only UNT would be the Sedin's. Anybody of interest?

1)Dan Hamhuis but has a NTC and he signed with Vancouver because it's his home Province. Would cost you an arm and a leg. Cap hit is $4.5 million and has 2 more years after this season. Made Team Canada for a reason and one of the reasons why the Canucks lost to the Bruins in the Cup finals was because he got hurt.

2)Chris Tanev but he should be part of their re tooling plan. Underrated player in my opinion. Last Summer he signed a 1 year $1.5 million deal. That was more of a prove yourself and then we will give you a big pay day deal. He's proven himself so far so his cap hit will rise this Summer.

3)If we're looking to add to the 3rd line, I would consider Jannik Hansen. But he signed an extension so his contract/cap hit goes from $1.35 to $2.5. Do we want a 3rd liner making that much?

4)These are more of a I'm a fan although could be good replacements if Columbus deals Johnson or Tyutin. Bieksa and Edler but both have NTC. For Edler, should only consider him if Jarmo/JD thinks he can rebound. Makes $5 million for the next 5 years after this season. Bieksa makes $4.6 and has 2 more years after this season.

HM)Zach Kassian but does his character fit this team?

We're (actually, it's just you) kind of arguing with ghosts here. Vermette is not being pursued by the CBJ as far as I know. Callahan is reported to be a CBJ target. Unless we're turning the clock back to '08, there's really no point in continuing this discussion.

John Davidson was just on MSG at intermission of NYR-NYI. Said emphatically no rental deals for us this year. Guess that closes the Ott discussion (thankfully).

I never thought we would. That wouldn't make sense for where our team is.

Couldn't the same thing happen with Ott that is happening with Callahan?

Not if "I" am in favor of pursuing one of them but not the other.

And Moulson.

I don't see it happening but JVR seems like a great fit for this team if a deal could be had. I'm also a fan of Kulemin and think he would fit the mold of this team. Both play LW as I recall and could elevate this team. JVR is signed to a reasonable contract for another 4 years but Kulemin is an UFA after this year.

I don't see Toronto moving JVR but I would certainly kick the tires while asking about Kulemin.

I know a lot of people don't want to make any moves, but I am okay with us making moves if GMJK thinks it makes us better. I think our team is strong enough now that we can handle bringing in a new player even when everything seems to be working. I am also okay if we don't make a move. The only thing I really care about is that we trade for a "young" player if we do make a trade.

JVR would most likely go for a hefty price.

Now, if Jarmo could somehow flip Gaborik+ for his services... oh man.

JVR I'd say is about a -5% chance of happening. Lupul could be a target from the Leafs and I'm a big fan of Kulemin

If Lupul is available, make sure he wants to be here first. Could be Carter part 2. When he was traded to Edmonton from Anaheim, it was a similar situation with Carter and Columbus. Although Lupul going to Edmonton might have been not wanting to play in hometown.

Any interest in Giordano? He's the only guy who'd be our clearcut #1, and his team is rebuilding. Great contract.

Yep...That's a great one. I commented in the other thread on this,.

I was thinking Matt Greene (offensive starved LA team). Big reliable tough hombre.

RT @DudeNamedJeremy: @Aportzline think a trade happens before the break? /// Yes, absolutely. And a significant one.

Chatter around the #NHL is that #CBJ Jarmo Kekalainen has been among the most active "dialers" in advance of the Olympic break.

Don't know all of his "targets," but #NYR Ryan Callahan makes sense. Leadership, work ethic, hockey intellect...things current #CBJ covet.

Just read that to on there. Some interesting points he made and he always seems to be accurate with what he tweets.
