They didn't lose to the Hurricanes in round 1, it was round 2. But they almost lost to Montreal and Toronto and did lose to Washington.

Whoops, thought the Hurricanes was a first round exit.

My point is they take teams beneath them lightly. I wonder how they view Columbus.

I'd love if Flyers played the Bruins or Pitt.

They have weak goaltending and defense. Their offense is rather bare, too. But they'll thug it up like no other.

Pitt doesn't respond well to physicality. They've been staggering to end the season too. Marc Andre is a headcase in the playoffs against anyone not named the Rangers, too.

Phi comes to play against Bos as well. In fact, their physicality tends to throw Boston off their game plan, as they try to match up fist to fist with them rather than score more goals.

Sure, that would mean playing the Blue Jackets in the first round, but that would be an amazing first round match up that I think would not warrant many dirty hits. It will be incredibly physical, but I think both teams respect the other to the point where they won't try and injure players intentionally.

I can't say the same about the Flyers. The Flyers are a dirty ****ing team. I don't like the prospect of playing them in the first round. McD will be susceptible to dirty hits by Hartnell and Simmonds. If Kreider comes back, I can't see why they wouldn't target his surgically repaired hand.

As for CBJ and Bos... Bos has owned them thus far this season. 3-0.

I really think the biggest factor to decide how far this team goes in the post season is the offensive big 3... Nash, MSL, Richie. Hank looks back to form, defense is solid (especially when Mac comes back) and the depth players are consistently playing good all around hockey while chipping in big goals. If the big 3 can do what they're paid to do, which is score at a fairly consistent level, this team can go far.

Look at the last game. Rangers lost 3-2 in shootout, but if MSL finishes on his good scoring chances or Nash/Richie do anything offensive that game, Rangers probably win in regulation 3-1 or 3-2. That will be the difference in the PO's in my opinion.

We can only hope Brassard and Zucc can get to the same play-off level they had last year. If we have that, and our big guns add a little we will have a good chance to go all the way.

NHL playoffs are as simple as this. Pretty much any team, can beat any team.

I miss Torts hockey
Said no sane person ever
Congrats Rangers
The Big 3 need to put up big points
Hank needs to shine
God line is released and ready
McD needs to return
Fast needs to have an impact
Hagelin needs to avoid suspension
Kreiders hand heals for 2nd round duty
Then I can come to terms with losing a 1 st round pick and playing a WC team again

Is this a haiku?

Worried about McDonagh being held out until the playoffs and then expecting him to pick up right where he left off as our elite defenseman. And to be successful, we need McDonagh to play like an elite defenseman.

If he has to be held out until the playoffs it is what it is, but I it's quite possible his timing will be off, and more importantly he won't be as effective because of his shoulder. See Ryan Callahan.

Not to mention that one thing we can be certain is that either Columbus or Philly will pound McDonagh relentlessly in the playoffs because of this. Would expect nothing less.

I am 10x more confident in this team than last year's team. Does anyone remember the lineup Torts put out for game 5 against Boston?

Hagelin - Stepan - Callahan
Kreider - Brassard - Nash
Pyatt - Boyle - Zucc
Haley - Newbury - Dorsett

McDonagh - Del Zotto
Moore - Girardi
Hamrlik - Eminger

Stralman got injured in game 3 and Richards was healthy scratched. Staal was out of course as well.

Couple the new depth the team has along with AV and I have high hopes. Anything can happen in the playoffs including an easy first round exit, but to say the team isn't better set up for a playoff run is plain wrong.

It's awesome we're in!

So many 1st round scenarios. Any opponent will be tough on us. Just not confortable with any of Columbus or Philly.

Holy moly. That's painful to look at.

Philly can get to 97 if they win all their games. Have to hope they lose @TB or @PIT since I don't see us winning in Montreal

The Rangers are better than Montreal

Eh, they're a good team. I'd say there's a more believable case that they're better than us, but I think they're of pretty similar caliber myself. Would be a close playoff series, and that matchup is pretty realistic.

both teams have their pros and cons.

I like our chances in a 7 game series against them.

The east is really up in the air this year. Rangers could be out in the first round just as easily as they could go to the SCF.

who the hell knows.

Yeah, then you realize you are speaking to the fanbase of a team that has one championship in 74 years and that one instance we were the President trophy winner who beat a 7 seed by one goal :p:

You like our chances in 7 game series, wouldn't anyone with #30 in the pipes? ;)

Henrik is still the best, his play deflates teams while upping his own teammates confidence when he's on, no one else on this team can do that.

I agree, this is turning out to be a year where realistically the higher teams could lose out early due to many top line injuries we're seeing late. Backes and Bishop tonight didn't look good so could be two more key players. At the very least our early playoff injuries in Kreider and maybe Mcdonagh could be offset.

Yeah, I agree. I think both conferences are a crapshoot, the West has 5 100pt teams. Who knows which of those teams advance. And, honestly, I could see Dallas upsetting St. Louis in round one. Mostly because it's St. Louis, and they aren't allowed to win in the playoffs.

Seriously. They've inexplicably collapsed two straight years when they should've probably made the conference finals.
