Not when it comes to wins and losses. Those are as ironclad as it gets. No points are distributed for the "coulda won" team.Real life has grey.
As well it should. The last handful of games have shown that the Rangers have trouble handling the forecheck. And teams that come with heavy pressure. That does not make for a good playoff experience. Our coverage of the Relaxation Grotto (slot) concerns me, especially in playoff style hockey.
Sure. That's how the game went.He got knocked around and had 9 PIMs?
Yes. Wins and losses are black and white. Their value in predicting future wins and losses is more complicated, however. Not when it comes to wins and losses. Those are as ironclad as it gets. No points are distributed for the "coulda won" team.
Not being able to do anything about "it" and discussing various items is one of many reasons this forum exists.

I have high hopes for this team in the playoffs.
Apparently the last few games show we are poor against a solid forecheck? That's not what I see at all.
The team shows up when they have a tougher opponent or when they have their backs against the wall. They deal just fine with harder forechecks when they need to show up.
There seems to be a prediction every stage of the season about how the Rangers will fail. In December, we had a "brutal" schedule in the month of January that would "likely" knock us out of playoff contention. The team had a great month of January.
In February, it was that we'd get out of sync with the 2.5 week hiatus for the Olympics.
In March, we'd finally see how "flawed" the Rangers were, when we played a tougher group of opponents than we played in January. After a sluggish start from the Olympic break, the Rangers quickly began playing up to their standards when their backs were up against the wall and they've taken control of the 2nd seed since then.
Now? Now we're not physical enough for playoff standards. Now we don't react well to quality forechecks (is that even able to be proven)? Why even watch this team if you guys expect them to fail?
That's only to make a point he doesn't want made. He wants this point made. That's different."The last handful of games" does not define a team. You are what your record says.
Far easier to ignore that and pretend that it is something else.I think he was just using recent games as an example...
Sure. However, in the end, success is judged on those.Yes. Wins and losses are black and white. Their value in predicting future wins and losses is more complicated, however.
I'm -31-, and I agree with this unabashed pessimist on this point. Also, can people leave the "Real Fan" bs at the door? I don't care whether you're a pessimist, optimist, or a ****ing nihilist, we're all fans of the same team, and obviously care about the team if we're on a forum discussing them.

In the future you could try to make your points more clear.Far easier to ignore that and pretend that it is something else.
It's a matter of question marks is all.
This is a team with a coach and a system that don't have playoff experience together. Right now the Rangers seem to thriving under the system AV has put in place. But the playoffs are a whole new level of play.
How will they adjust as they move thru it? The Rangers have a chance. Things have to fall in place and they need to catch some breaks. It's gonna be a lot of fun to watch. Especially if Hank gets and stays hot.

Playoff tendencies:
Defenses tighten up.
Less risks taken to stretch ice.
Teams try to clog up the neutral zone.
Forechecking is key.
Goalies can govern the course of a series.
Seems to me that we've been losing a fair amount of our series' over the last 6-7 years because we don't have much balance. Our top lines never produce as they're up against the hardest defensive pairings. We never had the depth and balance to be able to legitimately threaten another team with our lower lines.
I think the Rangers will wear out any team with their balance this year. Our defense trumps the other 7 teams we can potentially face in the East (if McDonagh is healthy).
Our speed will allow us to naturally open up the ice while reducing risks.
We have an excellent puck possession system in place and our bottom two lines do a great job at forechecking and generating scoring chances off of this.
We have a top 3 goalie.
So in the playoffs both forechecking and clogging up the neutral zone (lack of forechecking) is more prominent?
k.
I think I'd rather play the CBJ the more we're heading towards the playoffs.
no thanks.
i'll take the crappier goaltender 100 times out of 100.
