If you're not having fun it might not be a result of festival seating regulations.

A lady did ask me to not sing so loud during The Hip last year though.

The bulk of my issues came from their inability to in anyway organize the crowd. Mixing Molly popping kids with bed ridden geriatrics and waiting for security to start herding people during the shows is not worth my time or money.

But that was left over from my last experiences some 5 years ago - hence the query.

The last Blues Fest I truly enjoyed was 2005 at City Hall

Four Tet and Do Make Say Think in the same evening at the same stage

Fantastic time

Now that it's a Lebreton it's just "too much": too much emphasis on big names or catchy stuff

Wow, less than 10 rumoured acts for a festival that will feature 100+, and people are already giving thumbs down. :D

Yup, Ottawa...

Most of the rumoured acts so far are based on the lineup announced for the Toronto Urban Roots Festival, which overlaps with the beginning of Bluesfest.

I have it on good authority that the line up will be announced on or around March 17th. And before someone asks, yes I do know someone who would know that sort of thing.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lady Antebellum. They had the show announced on their website, but it was removed after a few days. They're a lock.

Wow if that is correct... then I'll be happy. I just went and looked at Urban Roots festival and the acts are fantastic. Hopefully, some of the following will make it to the Bluesfest.

Gaslight Anthem, Old Man Markley, Neutral Milk Hotel, Violent Femmes, Hollerado, New Country Rehab !WOW!

USS just 'pretty much' confirmed a Bluesfest appearance on Twitter.

Lady Gaga is also in the area during Bluesfest, playing in Quebec city. Seems like she'd be out of our price range but who knows.

I've missed the Gaslight Anthem twice. I'd love to see them.

Other than Sam Roberts, how is the rumoured list "very recycled"?

Steve Earle has played Folkfest in the past (most recently two years ago) and Gogol Bordello about 5-6 years ago, but I can't recall the others. Sure, bands come through the city all the time, but not necessarily for Bluesfest.

Styx was at BF 3 years ago.

Maybe because they're pretty crap live.

Nothing against country music either... they are just phenomenally underwhelming. I worked their last show at SBP (when it was still SBP, and not CTC), and the consensus amongst most guests that I spoke to & other arena staff was that the opening acts (which were Darius Rucker, and some other band I've never heard of) were FAR better than Lady A.

In the entire time I was employed at SPB, I have to say that Lady Antebellum was probably the worst "Country" show I worked.

Not giving it thumbs down, I will check the line-up

But truth of the matter is that in the last 6 years I haven't been to the Bluesfest because a day pass was too expensive for the one or two bands I wanted to see

They have less acts that interest me than they used to, that or I've gotten too old

$30-$40 is pretty decent for a day pass imo. When I lived in Australia a day pass for a festival was $100 easy. I had to pay $80 to see NOFX/Bad Religion, $150 to see Metallica. Although I did see the Trews in a small club for $15.

Everything in Australia is expensive

A 24 of XXX Gold cost me 50 dollars!!

I agree that the day passes aren't outrageously expensive but there are still too expensive for me.

Folk Fest has had a better lineup the last 2 years with lower prices.

Hell, the Dragon Boat Festival has the Sheepdogs and Arkells for FREE this year.

Im okay with the price of a daypass, but they need more bulk options IMO. The price has been steadily climbing while the headliners have been steadily falling.
