I only know Bruno Mars' radio stuff and it's absolutely ****ing awful. I guess this means his other stuff must be good.

As far as "big name artists" for this generation topic, nowadays people can listen to whatever they like plus when we think of "big name" we think of the ones we heard PRIOR to the internet changing everything: the "big name", as it was, is dead and buried and thank god. We don't have anything like Neil Young or Bob Dylan that will be played constantly and everywhere for the next 30 years.

Foo Fighters. Your move.

What do you mean "Foo Fighters, my move?"

I don't particularly think much of them but I know plenty of people who do. Do you mean they qualify as "big name"? Yes they do, they came about prior to the internet changing everything so there's carry over.

As far as 2014 shows go I just found out Mogwai released a new album so I'll probably try and make the show in Montreal in May, but that's it so far for me.

It was a response to your comment about how there are no more big name bands that will be played for the next 30 years. I'm almost positive that the Foo Fighters will live on that long because their music is catchy, simple and inoffensive rock. I do see your point about them being around prior to the Internet becoming mainstream, but they had less than half of their discography released by 2000. Personally, I think of them more as an Internet-era band than not.

The Foo Fighters will not get anywhere near the amount of play time that Dylan or Young did and that's a very good thing.

As far as "the internet changing everything" I meant it as something more specific than "1995 to 1999": I'd say the early days of the internet showed potential but it's only since around the late 2000's, once torrents really became mainstream, that everything truly changed.

In that aspect Foo Fighters made it big a long time before that.

Ahh, gotcha. Mea culpa, I misunderstood your meaning. Totally agreed, in that case. There's so much music oversaturating the market that it's not likely anything will get overplayed in the near future. Hopefully.

music is very diluted these days, and record labels are taking less chances. good music is easy to find if you look in the right places, it just takes effort. The first place to start is by turning off FM radio imo...

I saw Gogol Bordello in 2007

That's one hell of a live show, the music is decent but it's well worth seeing at least once

Yeah, it's just about actually looking for stuff instead of just listening to the radio. With that said, I do enjoy CBC radio 2 sometimes. Especially the Strombo show, Roots, and The Signal.

Yikes...thats not a great start for rumours....styx was at bluesfest just a few years ago. Sam Roberts must play Ottawa 20 times a year. Foreigner?

Excited for Steve Earle if that pans out though.

I'd probably be standing there for Gary Clark Jr. & Jimmy Buffett.

Gary Clark, Jr. is fantastic and an excellent guitarist. Gogol Bordello has an excellent live show.

I'm a fan of Jenny Lewis, so I would be more than pleased to see her perform here at Bluesfest.
