One thing about the net problem... they need to make the plastic post things a different color than the net frame. It would be very hard to see from a distance since they were both red. I think the NHL ones are yellow. A splash of yellow where there shouldn't be any, would have a better chance of being spotted.

I think the marsh pegs ARE a different color in the NHL. I was thinking they are yellow.

Apparently they WERE a different color in Vancouver.

If the Kings hadn't have had those extra 2.2 seconds.... :sarcasm:

In fairness, the league essentially admitted that the Jackets were screwed. All things aside, the points turned out to not matter anyhow, and I'm sure that 2 points were given to us throughout that year on a missed call!

Man. Sweden had a really lucky draw in pool play and it has continued into tourney play. Sucks Finland took Canada into OT. Hate the fact the US will have to play them in the quarters instead of a possible final.

Perfect post.... this bracket sums it up.

1. Reading some of the posts here one would think this board was broadcast out of Saint Petersburg..

2. The USA did not play well versus Russia, they were lucky to win. Bob was outstanding...

3. The USA is going to play Canada in the semifinals and the winner of that game will win the gold...

4. Sorry Russia, and sorry to all four Russian CBJ players including Bobrovsky, you are not going to win any Gold when there are teams as Canada, USA and Finland out there...

Go USA!!!!!

Note: it might be like 1980 for the USA this 22nd winter Olympics, just replace the Soviet Union with Canada this time; we beat the USSR in the semi finals in 1980 Olympics then went on to win the Gold vs Finland in the Gold medal game.

Oh, for the USA fans, I doubt we see Ryan Miller any more... Quick is the starter and much better than Miller at this point in time..

And, I'm in agreement with USA GM picking Cam Fowler over Jack Johnson, Fowler is a future NHL all-star, Johnson is on the decline...

Honestly, I hope Bob doesn't play against us if we face them in the Gold Medal Game. That was awful rooting against him, I didn't have a problem with rooting against Tyutin, Anisimov, Nikitin, as most of the casual fans aren't blaming a skater for a loss like they do the goalie. I fear he comes back manic depressed if they lose with him in net...he played great against us, I hate that the world thinks he lost it for Russia. He had no chance on either regulation goal.

Yeah, me too.. my biggest problem this Olympics is Bob... hell, I've met the guy, have taken pictures and talked with him on a road game in Buffalo and now must root against him... it's hard.

But in the end I support my country, it's what I must do.. I doubt many of our soldiers in Afghanistan are rooting for Russia or Canada...

While not a hockey thing, the "Bode Miller's Last Stand" during the Alpine skiiing last nite provided some very compelling TV. Nice to see him pull out a Bronze in his last Olympic run after a sixteen year career. At 36 he became the oldest person to win an Alpine skiing medal in the Olympics. The way it went down with him having one of the first runs of the night and having to watch all the other competitors trying to beat him was real drama.

Let's not get ahead of ourselfs. And are you actually ranking Finland higher than Sweden?

Yeah, I hear the peak for defenseman is now 21-24. JJ is 27, clearly passed his prime.

Exactly, this is anything but a done deal. I see 5 teams with legitimate medal expectations, and no clear cut favorite for the gold (and I'm probably being hasty excluding the Swiss). Russia had us beat, but for a disallowed goal that would have likely counted in the NHL, and some of the funkiest shootout rules I've ever heard of....despite all that, the Russians have a path to the gold medal game free of the perceived top 2 teams.

No, I don't view a US/Canadian quarter final as the gold medal game.

The peak for defensemen normally is somewhere around 23-27. However, this is obscured by two different things.

First is that a lot of coaches artificially restrict this by not trusting young defensemen, so they don't get prime playing time until being on the far side of 25 years old (or older).

Second is that there's a difference between someone being past their prime and being washed-up, and too many people use the terms interchangeably. The studies on baseball (that encompass the entire history of the sport) bear out that once a player peaks, his production erodes extremely slowly for the next 8-10 years. A player may peak at 24, but still be 90% as productive when he's 34. After a guy hits 34 or 35, it's basically a gamble on when exactly his play is going to plummet, because in a huge majority of cases, it will happen very suddenly.

I agree. Should be fun watching this play out.

People in the R-Bar cheering like that for Joshi to beat Bob?

I was to, from the comfort of my own home. I'll have plenty of time to cheer for Bob when he returns to Columbus.

Seriously, it's the Olympics and I'm going to support my country first. No idea why that would be confusing.

Because not everybody agrees with you? There are to many people on that US roster that I loathe to ever cheer for that hockey team to win anything. Every other sport I'm cool with cheering USA, but not for those pukes on the team USA hockey team. They can lose out of the tournament the next game and I'd be happy.

I'm not rooting against the US, I'm rooting for the Jackets. If Gaborik was healthy, I'd be rooting for him on Slovakia, too. I'm not into sports jingoism, I can easily separate support for my country and those who serve it from those who merely play games under its flag. To each his own.

I watched the 3rd and OT with wife and kids. I said I was rooting for the U.S., but I couldn't help but smile everytime Bob made a save, or when Tyutin scored the supposed winning goal.

I wanted to root for the U.S., but I couldn't in that game. If Varlamov was in net, totally different scenario.

I  me some Bob, gotta admit it.

Jeez,

It sounds like if Columbus had a team in 1980 and Vladimir Tretiak was the team's goalie everyone here would have rooted for the Red Army team in the miracle on ice game.

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of people here who put individual player dislikes above pride in your country. So what if you don't personally like TJ Oshie, Dustin Brown, or Patrick Kane or whoever. People can't put that aside for a little pride in your country?

Nationalism isn't what it was during the cold war. 34 years is a long time.

So what you are saying and based on recent history, it takes a national tragedy such as 9/11 for this country to act patriotic?

Take government and politics out of the discussion, doesn't something like the US Olympic team provide something to take national pride in?

Anyone have any idea why Sergei Mozyakin isn't on the Russian hockey team?

I would have thought he would have been in since he's pretty much a star player in the KHL and was the leagues scoring leader last year.

I went to google him to see who he was/look at his stats and noticed that he was drafted by Columbus in 2002. I wasn't a fan of the team back then. Any idea what happened? Didn't want to sign with Columbus or did he suck back then and Columbus said "see you later"?

I think CBJ fans who are American that choose to not root for Team USA hockey are a very small percentage if the general Columbus hockey population was polled, here the percentage seems to be higher... If the hockey fans at the R bar watching a Team USA game rooted for the other team I would be shocked, and very disappointed in the local hockey fan in general.

From a fan's point of view, I really hope that Canada and the US make it through to face each other in the semis. Naturally, I'm pulling for Canada in that game, but regardless, I'm hoping the winner faces Russia in the finals. Both games would provide great theater.

On another note, I'm very proud of Davis/White for their gold in ice dancing... They skate as if they are one and truly the best in the world as of today... Virtue/Moir from Canada are almost as good, I think it's wonderful the two pairs train together and are close friends.... this is good.

Oh, I think it's cool that Charlie White was a good hockey player as a kid...
