I just have a hunch that Brendan Lemieux is going to go to the Avalanche.. Patrick Roy values those types of players and having played with his dad, I'm sure he understands the importance of those guys in crunch time.

As an advocate of Nick Schmaltz, I have been reading a lot of question marks about his work ethic and desire. I think that will deter the Habs from choosing him as they value work ethic and character highly. The difference between him and Goldobin is that Schmaltz has shown some efficiency in his own end and actually can make plays in traffic, will go there, at times.
If we do take Schmaltz, he would immediately become the most skilled prospect in the pool and he would be a center prospect which is quite invisible in the pool.

Nice mock WTK. Best case scenario for the Habs. They get bigger and more skilled without having to move up in the draft.

Funny how a kid that plays an entire season in Saskatoon is still lower on draft boards because of the "Russian factor". I'd gladly have him in our prospect pool.

On that note, I believe Jake Walman is the type of player that will make fans say "why didn't we take him?" in a couple of years. If there are no good options at 26, I'd trade down and use one of the 2nds on him.

Nabbed him in our mock. Walman is definitely an attractive target. His offense and skating ability alone can see him succeed in the NHL. NHL teams will definitely have to look at his frame to see if he can play bigger than he is or if he will be a Leblanc type that never get out of being slight.

Hey guys. Not sure if this has already been asked. Habs decided not to offer a contract to Brady Vail. Does it mean he's eligible for the draft again? If yes, where do you think he'll het drafted and what are the chances we re-draft him? I was disappointed we didn't offer him a contract.

Why would we re-draft him after deciding not to sign him? Wouldn't that be a waste of a draft pick?

My personal opinion is that there is 0% chance of this. If they weren't convinced enough to offer him a contract, then why would they take the risk again? (getting 2 years is a strategy, but it is risky and wasteful.) There is also the possibility he will not be drafted this time around, so if they really wanted to, they could sign him to a temporary contract, but I doubt that this will happen, too. I think they saw something that they didn't like, and decided to walk away. Vail is gone, and I'm sure we'll never see him in our system again.

Take solace in the fact the Habs have three of the best talent evaluators in hockey, with GM Bergevin, Asst.GM Dudley and Head Scout Timmins, not only Philly but every team is at a serious disadvantage, at the Entry Draft and in scouting the pro free agents and overagers as well. The only direction the Habs are headed is straight to the top, with or without top 20 picks, they will only make it easier.:handclap::handclap::handclap:

An exceptional talent on D and he can skate himself out of trouble. Some one could take him in the middle of the first round.. I just couldn't find a team that I thought would take him over what else was available on the board. One team will.

Philly might. He looks like a good successor to Timonen.

Getting either Pastrnak, Vrana or Sherbak would be amazing. That being said i think players like Sherbak and Barbashev wont be available after the top 20, they might even make it into the top 10-15.

I can see Vrana and Pastrnak dropping to us, getting someone like Pastrnak @ 26 would be a STEAL. My top 3 "realistic" picks are: 1. Pastrnak 2. Bleackley 3. Vrana

Good mock ! I'd be very happy if the real one turns out like that, we'd have some pretty high offensive upside option at our rank. We'd even have the possibility of trading down a few spots and still pick a prospect with some upside.

Scherbak is a top talent, it takes one team to take him, but him being a russian has scouting circles thinking he will fall.

Pretty solid.. I don't know if Draisatl goes ahead of the Sams. I could see a situation where he goes in front of Reinhart but maybe not Bennett.

All in all, you got a lot of the 1st round talents in there and didn't include the two guys that I think will fall out of the 1st (Goldobin and Ho-Sang). Habs get Bleackley, who is who I would go for in that situation based on who is left on the board.. If not Bleackley, they go Vrana or Schmaltz in that situation (for me).

This way you can keep his rights for 2 more years without having to sign him. If we're close to the 50 contracts limits it could be a good option.

Pretty sure if we do draft him, we'll have to sign him right away. He's an overager and they have to be signed fairly soon after the draft iirc.

idk I have this weird feeling that Draisaitl goes 2nd a la Barkov, and yeah I really don't like Goldobin, and I doubt (although likely) someone takes the chance on Ho-Sang.

25. Boston Bruins: Roland McKeown, D.

Great mock.......putting one of the guys you hate the most to the Bruins prior to our pick....;) Come on...say it....that's a wish. Not what will happen. I'd love Lemieux with the Habs but you are right...and so is Kobe. Lemieux to Avs or Bruins makes perfect sense. Bruins are about to trade Marchand...they need Pest #2 to replace him in our hearts and a Lemieux on top of it.....That would be so predictable. Really wish he's gone before they talk.
