I'm just hoping that we are the 2012 Penguins and get a center version of Maatta to fall in our lap.

Somewhat relevant to this discussion is that Ho Sang's suspension has been reduced from 15 games to 6 games to start next season.

Thankfully, they show a little bit of sanity. Still an asanine amount of games for what should have been a minor penalty at most.

The OHL lives for growing its players and not acting as a normal league. The guess is that the hit gave the league an excuse to suspend him so he could get his hockey career in check and start taking things seriously. A way to learn I guess.

Even though Ho-Sang is a RW, even he's available at 21, I think we should seriously consider him. Like Fabbri, I think he could go anywhere from early teens to early 20s.

Highly skilled forwards should be the target with the first two picks. If they struggle defensively, that's not a huge concern. That can be taught(Schwartz, Tarasenko, even Paajarvi to an extent). Speed and skill are becoming more and more important in the NHL game. Size is starting to take a backseat. It's still important, but guys like Schwartz, Granlund, MSL etc. show that it's possible to overcome a size disadvantage with intelligence and skill.

Yep. I think Hockey IQ is the most important thing when looking at prospects. With enough practice you can improve skating, shooting, passing, and positioning. But you are who you are when it comes to hockey IQ.

I would really like to see us pick two skilled forwards (preferably Center, but BPA as always) with our first two picks, then look to move back into the low to mid 40's with our second 2nd+ if another forward we really like is dropping.

I prefer to take a center with our first pick, however, I don't think we can go wrong taking a highly skilled winger. This team desperately needs some young talent to come through the pipeline at forward. We all know we need a center right now, but at the same time that may not be the case by the time this year's crop of forwards is ready. That's why I think we just need to take the best possible forward that's available when we pick.

Donato is a savvy pick. I don't think he'll be there when the Blues select in the 2nd round(with their actual pick, not Edmonton's). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some team falls in love with him and takes him late in the first round. Would be thrilled if the Blues grabbed him with any pick(with the possible exception of 21).

I think someone takes him in the early to mid 2nd round. There is a lot to like about that kid.

I would be absolutely thrilled if the Blues came away from the draft with Fabbri, Pollock, and Donato. It's basically my dream draft for the Blues. Obviously, that means there is zero chance that it comes to pass.

Should he fall, I would love to see the Blues take Adrian Kempe. I don't see it happening though. Good size and great speed.

Agree, it'd also maybe make for good mentor chemistry with steen (or berglund, lindstrom, PRV if they were still around) when kempe would finally transition into the nhl

The player I am hoping to see fall a bit (so we can grab him) is Alex Tuch. The kid has good size and high hockey IQ and has been compared to Draft write-ups to Joe Thornton. He is projected by a lot of sites to go in the late teens so he wouldn't have to fall far.

With 51, I wouldn't mind if the Blues took a chance on Vladimir Tkachev. He would be a slight reach there, but he likely won't be available with our 3rd. It's risky because he's very small(listed at 5'8 and the video makes him look smaller than that honestly) but he's very skilled and the production(1.5 PPG in only 30 games) is first round level. Very much a boom/bust prospect, but I'd take the chance at 51.

Tuch

Would love to see Tuch fall to the Blues at #21.. Could happen depending if any of the D's like Honka/ McKeown/ Sanheim go before the Blues pick. Bleackley past Tuch would fit as well, but he might make it to 33. It's a strange draft as past the top 10, there is a group of 30 or so players that easily could have their name called from 11 to 40. Nikita Scherbak, a good two way player , A skating rating, huge upside would be a great selection at ##21.

For all the talk about this being a bad draft, there seems to be quite a bit of good solid depth. Might not have truly elite talent except for a few at the top, but there are quite a few names that we'd all be happy with at 21, and 33. It's not like other years where you hope for a single name or 2.

Really a mixed bag from 15 to 45 from what I understand depending on what your looking for. Kind of draft the Blues need really. Just solid prospects and not so many swing for the fences picks. Really...they are 17 and 18 year old kids. What do we really know? ;)

I think this draft may be comparable to the RNH draft. Not the high top end talent but solid players into the 2nd round.

Kind of thinking the same thing. Each draft had a few truly elite prospects, but the 2nd round in 2011 had guys like Rattie, Gibson, Jaskin, Jurco, Saad, Jenner, and a few other notable picks.

This is a draft where we can come out with 2 2nd line forwards and a 2nd pairing dman with our top 3 picks. If we move the 21st or 33rd for Spezza, then hopefully we can get that center with the first pick and another solid forward with the 52nd.

Ideally, we can send the 33rd in a package for Spezza and use the 21st to trade back to the bottom 1st or early 2nd and add another 2nd or early 3rd.
