Might is the key word. I'd prefer not to take the risk to be honest. If he's there at 21, I say bite bullet and take him.

Depends on who else is available. If Fabbri is there, I think we take him. Even Scherbak, although not a center. I would still go BPA, with tie going to forward/center. Likelihood of BPA being a forward is shaping up to be fairly high, but who knows how it will actually play out.

RIP Fugu ϶(°o°)ϵ
I think we'll get him with one of our later 2nds.
MacInnis went at #34 in the moderator mock, and at #44 in the Montreal Board "A" mock (probably the best one done yearly on this site).

I ended up taking Donato at #51 with the Blues later 2nd (debated between him and Glover). Personally have Donato ranked higher than MacInnis, so I was pretty happy with him falling. Donato went #45 in the Montreal mock.

Fabbri, Pollock, and Donato would be a great haul for the Blues in the real draft. Don't know if we'll do a third round in the moderator mock or not.

That would definitely be a good haul.

Surprised MacInnis went so high in those drafts, he's a mid 2nd-early 3rd pick IMO. He has some great attributes, like his shot, size, instincts, and all-round play, but skating and production is a pretty big concern.

As far as the draft, I want us to take the BPA at 21, regardless of position. Ideally it's not a goalie, but if a defenseman falls and they are #1 on the board, take him. With Edmonton's 2nd, take the best center available.

Like with Binnington, draft another developmental goalie in the 3rd or 4th.

I don't see Fabbri dropping to us. He's a little water bug, and that seems to be where the NHL is heading.

Depends on who drops. You never know who's going to be on the board.

I agree about taking a guy like Fabbri if he's there. I just don't see him lasting past 15.

I've really started to do my draft research this past week(summer vacation is as awesome to teachers as it is to students  ) and I can't help but get excited. There are so many interesting options at forward that will be available when we pick at 21 and 33. Schmaltz, Scherbak, Fabbri still my favorites. I'm warming up to Barbashev and Ho-Sang. I just really hope we go with a forward at 21. Stable will be almost empty once Rattie and Jaskin graduate. I won't be upset if we go with a Dman at 33, but there will be legitimate top 6 forward prospects at 21. We can't pass that up.

We really need to go heavy on forwards this draft. Carrier was the prospect that was going to help the forward depth, and now we have no top 6 options after Jaskin and Rattie, hell we likely have no top 9 options after those 2.

I'd like to see the Blues do similar to what they did when they grabbed Tarasenko and Schwartz in the first.

Get Ho-Sang
Trade back up
Get Schmaltz

I agree. We have a lot of nice picks this year to make some moves and be aggressive for the prospects we feel can be real difference makers. I'd like to see us package Edmonton's 2nd with perhaps a 4th or a prospect and move back into the first for a mid 20's pick. I also wouldn't be against packaging our 1st and 2nd to move into the mid teens if there's someone we feel is dropping.

I personally think trading our first two picks to move into the teens would be too risky, as I don't think the talent separation is wide enough between, say, 12 and 33, to warrant losing the 33rd pick ( but what do I know). Plus, I think we're at a point where we should be restocking our pool with more prospects. Just better to have multiple picks that may pan out rather than putting our eggs in one basket. However, I would be all in favor of packaging the 33rd with our 2nd or 3rd to move back into the 1st round if someone has fallen who wasn't expected to.

Bt it all depends...you're right, if someone who was projected to go in the top 10, like Nylander or Ritchie, is still there at 14, I wouldn't be against moving up with our 33rd pick. Still risky, as the pick may not pan out, but our scouts have done a good job with our 1st round picks lately (plus Jaskin and Rattie).

I like so many players between 15-40 that I'd rather keep both picks. I'm all for trading back into the late first but that doesn't seem to happen very often. 33 will land us a good player so I'm not too concerned with trading up. Is honestly consider trading down from 21 to around 26-28 to pick up an extra second rounder next year.

Very true. Just to be clear, I wasn't advocating for trading #21 and #32 for #14. I think we can trade #21 and #52 or whatever it is for #15 OR do the #32 and #52 for 24-26.

Ho-Sang has behavior issues, I want nothing to do with him.

He's also one of the most gifted players in the draft. I also haven't read anything about "behavior issues", more lack of discipline at times(like Perron, Backes). If that's the case, I'd be perfectly fine with drafting him. Oshie had "behavior issues" as well. They're kids, they have plenty of maturing to do.

He's been suspended numerous times, including a 15 game suspension for a cheap shot earlier this year. He's also been scratched from playing a handful of times for what his coach called "behavioral and discipline problems."

I hadn't read that. Still wouldn't steer clear of him, but that would possibly bump him down a couple of slots on the board. He's still so gifted that I would take the chance.
Nikita Scherbek or bust

Would be thrilled with him, but I think someone else grabs him before we get the chance. I really have no idea who we're going to pick. My gut still says Barbashev, but I wouldn't be surprised with Donato, Scherbek, Kamenev, Bleackley, Ho-Sang. Knowing the Blues, it won't be any of those guys  . We always seem to go with "off the board" guys that we see as sleepers.

I really would like to see Ho-Sang. Blues need that cocky kind of prospect. Ho-Sang, Schmaltz, Bleackley, Mcinnis are some that I wouldn't mind seeing taken with the 1st and EDM 2nd. Also wouldn't mind us going up and potentially getting Dal Colle if he falls at all.

I take it you didn't see the "hit" that "earned" him the suspension. It was a ****ing joke. He literally bumped a kid, who fell and then broke his leg on the boards. If the OHL discipline wasn't such a joke he would meet have been suspended. They even admitted that if there was no injury there would have been no suspension. If he's there at 21 I'd be very happy taking him.

I saw it. It wasn't anywhere near 15 games worthy, but had the implications of a 1 or 2 game suspension IMO. His past offenses and the injury were really what got him. I almost guarantee you he'll be there at 21.

I'll be honest Daley, I don't even think it was worthy of a penalty. Keep in mind this is the same league that only have Stolarz 8 games for swinging his stick at somebody's head like a baseball bat. They are a joke. If he's there at 21 I hope we take him. He's still a kid. Most grow out of it, and he's talented enough that I'm more than willing to take that chance.

I think he'll be there at 21. The question is whether or not he's more of a 'pressing need' and if he's a better pick than say a Scherback, Schmaltz, or Bleackley. I think it'll really come down to who's available. I have no doubt Ho-Sang can move on from his 'childish' past per say, but there could always be better options at 21.

I'm not sure I'd immediately press for him at 21 because we don't know for certain who'll be there.

I can tell you what though, if this team somehow, in a rare occasion, passes on Fabbri, I'm gonna be VERY mad.
