Beautiful work, HC and nki. I have a long ways to go before I can contribute your quality of work :)

Congrats Kings on winning the Stanley Cup...very very well done.

I am sure your club will make small changes next year at the most. I am wondering about martin Jones and your plans for him. Quick is going to be your starter for a long long time.

Is there anything the Winnipeg Jets could offer that you might need?

Thanks and congrats again.

Not a good time, to be honest. Jones is inexpensive, and nobody else in the organization is ready to be Quick's backup. Don't think the Kings could afford to trade Jones, if that makes sense.

For those keeping track, McKenzie's rankings come out next Monday, although personally I am the most interested in TG's work above any other publication for obvious potential Kings related reasons. :D

And thanks for the kind words KP.

Great work nki, very enjoyable read. Surprised at some of the names, not that they shouldn't have been there but many others don't have ex. Brouillard.

Despite a possible need for Dmen in our prospect pool, I feel that this draft is forward heavy and that some quality Dmen start around pick 50. I would love to move up from 29 for a forward without sacrificing a 3rd this year, but I find that very doubtful. I really have no clue about how DL will approach this years draft.

Justin Kirkland, Ryan MacInnis, Brandon Lemieux, Brett Pollock, Ryan Donato, Warren Foegele, Parker Bowles, Hunter Smith, Nick Magyar, Beau Starrett, Austin Poganski, Jayce Hawryluk, Dylan Shadowy, Jack Glover, Jack Dougherty, Josh Jacobs, Aaron Irving, Ryan Collins, Jacob Middleton.......

If the Kings can grab a handful of these kids, I'd be happy.

Maybe not this year, but soon, I think the Kings draft a goalie high again. The cupboard is really bare after Jones, and Quick is now 28. By the time a good goalie prospect is ready to take over, he'd be 34-36.

Shadowy would be an absolute bomb of a nickname for Sadowy.

Berube had a solid year in Manchester, though whenever he is ready, his competition will be Jones, battling for the backup role. Hasek played into his 40s and was still posting solid numbers at that age. Hopefully Quick has that longevity as well.

picking kirkland at 29 would be too early, and then we don't pick again til 63, he'll be gone by then for sure, so maybe, just maybe, trading down to get an extra 3rd rounder, something like our 29th, for someone's 39th and 65th, or something along the lines of what Edmonton got for trading down with us last year,

IMHO, Bartosak is going to be better than Berube. I hope we see a lot of him in Manchester this year.

Nashville is apparently considering a move to get another 1st round pick and has been approached by teams that want some combination of either one or both of their 2nd round picks (#42 and #46) to get a deal done.

What position are we even looking for?

LW? D?

Center. Seems silly since we have so many centers at the NHL, but we currently have ZERO playing in the CHL or NCAA. Need to restock moving forward.

Probably a goaltender as well. Outside of that it's probably a mix of wings and D.

Yes, we definitely need to draft a center.

Also Matt Greene-type of player - a big, tough, naturally aggressive right shooting defensive d-man.

And I really hope, that we draft some toughness.

Part of the reason why Jack Dougherty is also on my radar after Quenneville.

Count me in on this too and I am a fan of Berube. JB will be a player in the NHL in a few years and is ready to start getting a look now and then but I believe that we may have stolen a truly solid #1type in Bart.

Moves really well knows his angles and is fearless. Still has a way to go but that kid can flat out play.

It's so refreshing that I haven't really kept track of the NHL draft in years. I mean, I still know the top 10 guys and whatnot, but I remember from basically 2003-2012 I would study the draft for months and figure out who I wanted us to take in the top 5 or top 10. Don't need to worry about those things anymore hahaha.

I agree. But, Berube is gonna be another really good one!

Berube's path to the NHL is road blocked by Martin Jones and his waiver exemption is going to be up so any future assignments to Manchester after 2014-2015 can only occur after he's exposed to waivers and he clears.

One way or another (trade or picked up on waivers) I think he'll be playing for another organization if he continues to develop as he's doing.

Goalie don't get taken on waivers. It just doesn't happen. Most every teams have prospect in a similar vein to Berube. Even if Berube puts up a .930 next year, there'd be little worry about waivers. Look a Jeff Zatkoff, who posted better numbers at every level through minors (at same age) yet he cleared waivers with Kings, then Kings didn't even bother with a QO on him. Then cleared waivers with Pittsburgh and only got a chance last year due to a huge lucky break due to Vokoun's injury just before season.

As for why goalies don't get claimed on waivers, it's really quite simple. Waivers don't appear until after training camp, when all organizations have set their goaltending depth. It's incredibly rare a team will claim a goalie bumping every single person down, particularly as a goalie on waivers is unlikely to be any kind of improvement (eg Biron type) or completely unproven so they won't take the chance screwing up what they've set up. Illya Bryzgalov is one of like 3/4 goalies taken off waivers in past decade and he had 2/3 NHL seasons under his belt and was recognized as a young up and comer at the time.

That's right, I hadn't realized the Kings would be picking 29th instead of 30th. Thanks, New Jersey ;)

Maybe we'll get another Tanner Pearson?
