USA can't replace Altidore per FIFA rules. Guess we'll be seeing a lot of AJ/Wondo in the coming matches.

Yea, tough injury to get. I know that grab and facial expression all too well. Seen Jose Reyes grab it that way quite a few times as a Met.

Didn't think we'd win a game. Maybe draw, but no wins.

Good resilience shown from this US squad in that game. Gonna really miss Altidore, though :(

Was supposed to watch this one at a bar in the city tonight, but left work early because I feel like crap :( This would have been a great game to watch in a bar type setting.

Game reminded me of the Final. I can't take much more of that.

Helluva game at the end there. Great resiliency. The Altidore injury will loom huge. AJ and Wondo will get a chance to step up in a big way.

I have had high hopes for AJ, but he looked lost out there today. We need to have him or Wondo break out cause that did not look good for Altidore and the rest of his cup.

yeah but even baseball has instant replay now for home runs

soccer is so crooked it's not even funny, if you're not an insider (spain, germany, bazil, etc...) you have to overcome the system because they'll never cut you the same breaks

You don't think the US is an insider? FIFA, ESPN and a bunch of others desperately want international soccer to catch on the US. If that means giving them the breaks, so be it.

The 1994 World Cup in the US was a huge success and a monster revenue generator. The international community was saying back then how the WC should come back to the US soon. Yet here we are, 20 years later, and the soonest the WC could be hosted here again is 32 years after that last one. The US has zero pull at FIFA

Well, soccer now has the goal line technology. Which is basically replay. It's heading in the right direction.

It's not a North American game. The rest of the world is okay with arbitrary stoppage time and all that.

Speaking of stoppage time, that was pretty ridiculous they added 5 minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game. Way too much.

MLS had time stop when the ball went out in its early years, and it was lambasted on the world stage.

USA just has to put its sporting preferences aside and just play by international rules in this sport. It's funny, watching in internet comment sections the southern confederate flag waving rednecks who all live and die by a college football team they never actually attended rip the sport, but it is what it is. (Not the people here, obviously)

There are some things I'd change about soccer rules, but there are even more things I'd change about NHL rules. One of the best things is you get 50 minutes of play with no ******* commercials.

But Qatar is obvs the best location for a World Cup!

The only thing FIFA cares about are who's bribes are the biggest.

Yes, there is a lot of corruption. Really though, how many games (at the top levels) look to be fixed? Referees make terrible calls, sure, but it doesn't seem any more frequent than what you'd see during an NHL or NBA game. I'm pretty comfortable with the integrity of the games themselves, at the levels I care about anyway.

So true.

Handball on the goalline against Germany in 2002 which wasn't called and should have given us a penalty shot
The two quick red cards we got against Italy in 2006 after they had one player sent off for splitting McBride's face open
The ridiculous penalty on Oneywu against Ghana in '06 that gave them their penalty shot goal

If anything it's the other way around, they don't want us dominating soccer the way we do most other sports

What other sports do you exactly dominate? The ones you only play?

Meh, only thing I'd change about footy is less diving. Other than that, I think the rules are perfect compared to the NHL. Could you imagine if they tried to put a fricken trapezoid on a soccer pitch?

Actually, that's not a bad idea. If play was allowed behind the nets the game would be a lot more interesting

As for diving, there should be video replay after every game and players who faked plays should be suspended for the next game
