Unless Cam show's some edge and scoring consistency, I don't see him as anything more than a placeholder until we find a good replacement. I'm a big fan and I want to see him succeed, but he has to be better than last season. 30 goals is absolutely doable for a guy with his skill.

Is he going to score 30 playing with Dubinsky and Calvert?

I realize those two aren't exactly offensive black holes, but that line definitely has a "middle six" whereas I think you'd want to play on a "top six" feel line to manage 30. (Yes, it's a subtle nuance, which is exactly what I was going for.)

Dubinsky and Calvert are pretty good at feeding Cam the puck. I think its a good situation for a scorer.

Calvert is who makes Atkinson expendable. He doesn't have as quick or smooth of a release, but everything else he's superior. 2 years ago I didn't think that'd be the case. I'd like to see Calvert get some extended time with Joey.

I like Marchand and would take him in a heartbeat. He's more seasoned but I think Calvert plays essentially the same game and has just as much(if not more) high end potential.

Anyone who says Calvert makes Atkinson expendable is not making sense. They are completely different players. Atkinson is high skill forward who has a sniper shot and is capable of scoring 25+ goals. Calvert is an all around hustler who is not high skilled. They are complementary, not duplicative in their roles. Calvert does not make Atkinson expendable. Matt makes Cam more valuable.

Calvert with Joey is silly. Calvert is a classic third liner with moderate skills but a high rev engine that makes maximum use of those moderate skills.

The only thing Calvert and Cam have alike is their heart. Calvert is a better forechecker and defender, Cam is better offensively.

Wow. They're not even close to the same type of player. Weird comparison. If anything, their skills complement other - one reason the Calvert-Dubinsky-Atkinson line was the best line in the playoffs.

I would love to see us get a replacement for Nikitin, someone meaner and nastier that clears the front of the net and hits and isn't afraid to drop the gloves. That was our biggest weakness against Pitt, most of their goals came from screens, deflections and rebounds. A solid vet that can be a 4-5 guy and maybe kill penalties would be ideal.

However, I'm afraid our return will be draft picks or long shot prospects.

I've been lurking for a long time and there are many very knowledgable people here. I decided to jump in and wanted to ask what people think the price for Perron would be. We all think Edmonton would be an ideal trading partner. Would Tyutin and a #1be a fair price? Their salaries kind of match up and Edmonton needs defense.

If you could traded Tyutin and #1 for Perron, there'd still be plenty of room to add Callahan in free agency, once Umberger is gone of course.

Lines something like:
Perron/Johansen/Callahan
Jenner/Artisimov/Horton
Foligno/Dubinsky/Atkinson
Calvert/McKenzie/Letestu

would look awfully nice to me.

That would still leave JJ, Murray, Savard, Wiz, Prout, and Erixon to occupy the top 6 defense spots.

Nice first post, glad you decided to jump in.

We've discussed Perron here a bit and I'm not sure the Jackets are willing to pay what it would take to get him. He's inexpensive and very valuable to that team on a few levels. Your trade proposal reflects that (I don't see their fans agreeing to it, but it's probably closer than what the Edmonton fans would want) and Perron had a breakout season. He tends to be a bit over the map in production, it will be interesting to see what he does this season. I expect he'll continue to produce at that level.

Personally I've had my eye on Gagner for a while, although has a NMC this season. Not claiming he's all world or anything, just a player I like who I think we could get more out of than what we've seen out of him in Edmonton. I've had a few players like this over the years that I have a good feeling about, they generally get moved and tend to improve.

Sometimes I wonder what would Skille have accomplished playing with Dubinsky and Calvert all season?

Bring Methot back? He's in the last year of his contract (3 mill) in Ottawa.

I hesitate do mention this idea I've been kicking around so soon after an IHZ post but...

Between the depth on the blueline and the possibility of a contract coming back via an Umberger trade, what are the chances the CBJ could also find itself at a similar crossroads as Umberger this offseason with Fedor Tyutin?

What follows is an example, not a specific - I'm just spitballing stuff so stay with me.

Say Umberger gets traded to Edmonton. Say Andrew Ference comes back. Even presuming he's a drop-off from Tyutin, could you put him in your top 6 and add Erixon and be just as well off? And take out Ference, is there a similar player who could be acquired who makes less than Fedor who could make this scenario work (serious suggestions appreciated if not expected). Smid for example. Ryan Wilson? Roman Polak? Or younger guys like Petrovic or Gryba. (Too young?)

Obviously I'm a little bored already this offseason. I have always appreciated Tyutin's all-around game. He's still young and it's been suggested he's a locker-room presence, especially for the Russian guys. He's not obviously overpaid. But personally I question his speed as far as thinking the game, something GMJK has suggested is important moving forward.

Just tossing an idea around.

Welcome to the "trade Tyutin" club. Happy to have you.:welcome:

There's a club? Do I have to learn a secret handshake?

Seriously, let's not misread positing alternate perspectives on this roster/offseason with some desire/crusade to trade Tyutin (or Atkinson, for that matter, who I've also questioned in this thread).

Dear lord no. In addition, that was not our "biggest weakness" or maybe, more precisely, what we need to resolve this "weakness".

Good moves, except you should know the price for Perron has risen a lot. Edmonton needs more like him, not fewer. Eberle, on the other hand, has seen his price drop. I also think he would add more to our lineup.

I've been seeing the words "locker room cancer" and "malcontent" regularly attached to his name by Ottawa fans. Not a reunion I'd like to see.

I like the idea of Eberle better than Perron. I wouldn't mind Perron, but he does a concussion history that would concern me.

And this time, Johansen is overpayment.

Ugh. I suppose it needed to be pointed out.

Between that and "Canada respect" I can live without CBJ-related HF memes for a while.

If there's a guy in EDM to target, it's Eberle.

You're probably right but what the heck. It's a slow pre-holiday Friday so assuming Edmonton would do it Umbie for Yak.

Before all the screaming starts, Umbie has basically been written off regardless of JD's public statements to the contrary. Yak has great potential. If after a year we decide he's Z and Filly reincarnated we let him go. If he develops we will have a McDonagh for Gomez like trade to be thankful for for years to come. Little downside imo, lots of upside. And I might even throw in a young D named Golobuef to make it happen.

Sorry man, that's a horrible proposal.

Yakupov's value has dropped significantly. But he's not even close to only worth an albatross like Umberger straight up.
