Let me ask you a question.

Hockey wise, are we a better team than we were April 15th?

I'd say yes. Hartnell>>>Umberger and this D'Amigo kid doesn't sound like a huge downgrade from MacKenzie.

At a minimum, it's a push. We should be better for the experience they earned last season. If Hartnell and Horton are healthy and one of the kids goes into full beast mode during training camp, we're even more better.

Resigning DMac wouldnt help us if Johansen goes down or Dubinsky gets tossed. He's a 4th line center, his skill set can be replaced.

He would allow Letestu or Dubinsky to play up higher in the line up or Jenner to play wing until he had to fill in on C if need be. MacKenzie could play 3 or 4 line C pretty comfortably.

This thread is tough to stomach. So many of you complaining about adding an over priced player on July 1st and how we can't compete. yada, yada, yada. Some lot of you also said "crap, if only we would have beaten the Pens we would be in the finals".

Get it through your heads!!!! This team is a good team. It will have a year more experience and there is no one pushing young players into prominent roles. Sheltered minutes while cutting their teeth on the 4th line or wherever is they earn it is not giving anyone anything. D'Amigo is 10 years younger than DMac with the same type of pedigree. Fast, aggressive, PK and a natural wing. Hartnell is an upgrade.

Gripe away but Mr. Two Thumbs here thinks this team is going to be better than last year and push the Pens for the division title. Although I will say I am glad we are no longer in the West. That's where the talent went. The Metro is wide open.

Let's see what October brings shall we?

Barely, imo. Hartnell while a shiny new object may not produce like he did while playing on Giroux' wing but I think he is better than Umbie.

As far as the 4th line goes, since most here say it doesn't really matter and 4th liners are a dime a dozen I say it's a push, although I think we won't know for real until we see how a line w/o D-Mac energizes the team.

What we really needed and haven't added is a skilled winger who can create his own opportunities and be a sniper when our offense creates a chance for him.

everyone says that Hartnell just fed off of Giroux, but when I looked at the fancy stats posted in an article, Giroux actually benefited from playing with Hartnell more so than Hartnell benefited from playing with G.. I don't have the link to it right now but if I can find it I'll post it

I don't buy that 4th liners are a dime a dozen. Certainly they're easer to get than guys like Speeza, who wouldn't have come here anyway, but last season our 4th line was a big reason we went as far as we did. They didn't score many goals, but they scored enough to make the other team defend them, and often got the puck into the offensive zone. Coach Richards gave them more minutes as the season went along and that meant a bit more rest for the top nine, one reason we often won the third period. That additional rest means a lot when you play a physical, checking game as the Jackets did.

Derek MacKenzie did a lot of that. So did Letestu, who is far better than an average grinder. Tropp showed something this year. I'd love to see us get a couple more pure scorers, but I really think having a good fourth line does a lot for this team.

Vrbata. Kulemin. Legwand.

I also think that Wennberg is gonna surprise a lot of you at training camp. I think he'll step in on wing(3rd-4th) and we can throw him out on the PP. I don't see how this would be bad for him or the team. I also don't see Jenner as a center in the NHL, not that he couldn't, I just think the way he plays is perfect on the wing.

And can we please stop with the Anisimov trade stuff. We'd be better off throwing him up on Johansen or Dubinsky's line then trading him for Eberle.

You guys are giving these 4th line guys way more credit than they deserve. You know who had a way bigger impact than our 4th line centers? The guy who played 2nd-3rd line center, was just as good on the PK, and actually went to the dirty areas during the PP.

Maybe something that looks like...

Jenner - Johansen - Horton
Hartnell - Dubinsky - Atkinson
Wennberg - Anisimov - Foligno
Calvert - Letestu - Tropp/Boll/D'Amigo/Hjalmarsson/Chaput

Exactly. And technically we were one ofthe first teams to sign somebody. Although he may not of big a big name FA, we signed Hjalmarsson quite awhile ago and he has the potential to make an impact on this team. His speed should be even more effective on the small NA rinks if he can find the open space he could make a bog difference. Also a healthy Horton and Hartnell are going to make a big difference. These boards *****ed about Jarmo getting all of these players that didnt makea difference and noe that hes getting rid of them everyone is freaking out. Wennberg is Imo the biggest question of the offseason, if he's playing in the NHL next year i think he'll be used in a top 9 role at center allowing Anisimov or Dubinsky to slide to the wing in the top 6. He essentially already played a year in the AHL, although the SHL and AHL are not the same the only question for me is how will he adjust to the smaller ice, which he has played on before. The only concern I have is injury depth, which is something we need to work on. Add a few tweeners who can fill in when we need for short periods of time. That could make or break a team.

#Coyotes also signed goalie Mike McKenna. All four of these guys are one-year, two-way deals.
