Mike Ribeiro is like the exact opposite of what we are trying to build and encourage around here

Not interested.

I'm trying to think of the other notable names still out there. Niskanen, but he's going to get paid stupid money for what he brings.

Vrbata, Stempniak, Grabovski, Ribeiro, Brad Richards, Legwand, Penner, Derek Roy, Setoguchi, Olli Jokinen, Kulemin

basically the only real "notable" names left on the market for forwards

I know its been rehashed time and again, but just glancing over Edmonton's roster it on capgeek they would appear as though they need C's. Maybe Anisimov+ could be the starting point in a trade to get a guy like Eberle. I might be way off, Im not the best in judging perceived and actual value on players.

Then we have a hole at center. We would be losing 2 of our centers from last year- Anismov and DMac. Please don't say Wennberg is ready to step in.

Yeah its rather obvious. I've brought up Anisimov+ for Eberle many times.

Jackets, Bruins, Predators, and Wings are the only 4 teams left that haven't signed anyone today.

The first day of FA is dumb.

This is the major flaw in the "trade our way to improvement theory". a one for one adds one place and subtracts in another; 2 fers make it even worse. We are not in a position to make a trade like this this year. We have no ready in waiting guys to step in to roles like Arty's. 2 years from now as he approaches FA and hopefully Wennberg is ready, yes a deal like this could work; right now I don't think it can.

Agreed. Today is the day you add a right winger through free agency and close up shop.

You could move Jenner to center or bump Letestu up to the 3rd line and sign a 4th liner.
Just throwing ideas out there.

Hartnell - Johansen - Eberle
Foligno - Jenner - Horton
Calvert - Dubinsky - Atkinson
Tropp - Letestu - D'Amigo

Appears we are going to improve, this season, only through organic growth. We shall see what happens.

I actually think this would be a huge plus. We could have one of the top scoring teams. Though a lot depends on just how capable Jenner would be at Center. It's a lot more responsibility. He has some positioning to learn. Jenner was a dominant center in junior because he was a beast, not because he had the technique down.

Though it is always fun to sign a shiny new toy :)...I am actually not overly disappointed that we didn't make a big acquisition in FA. I think this is a year where many available players were not worth the $/term they received. For example, I really like Statsny but at $7 million.....wow I don;t know. I am okay with making a minor signing or 2 (possibly Legwand at the right price). Hoping that then we can then use the cap space and assets accumulated to make a big splash deal for a top line forward when a legit one comes available later in the summer or Fall.

I like it a lot on paper. but what happens if Johansen goes down for a few weeks or Jenner goes through a long growing pain or Dubinsky gets a game misconduct in the first? I'm not against the trade; I'm against letting DMac go.

Resigning DMac wouldnt help us if Johansen goes down or Dubinsky gets tossed. He's a 4th line center, his skill set can be replaced.
