The coach for the swedish wjc team, Richard Grönborg, is in NA to scout players for the team and one of the main targets are William Lagesson. The competition for the spots on D is fierce, Oliver Kylington might not even make the team, and I doubt William gets in this year but to even be in the mix with this kind of depth as a younger player is quite impressive.

Grönborg likes his strong D and also commented on him being one hell of a competitor, everyone seems to bring this up, don't think I've ever come across a player who is so frequently getting praise for being competitive, people go gaga over this in every interview and article I've seen. Never heard anything like it even with the most competitive players. The only player who got similar comments in sweden from what I recall was a young Peter Forsberg, but in his case it was more in the sense of "for such a skilled player". Let's hope for similar careers...

And it's always "competitor", never the more generic "hard worker", "no quit" or "grit" that get thrown around towards every player who plays somewhat aggressive. It's always compete, compete, compete.
I've barely seen the kid play so I look forward to catch some games to see if I understand what the big fuss is about. Sounds like a useful player.

Thanks for the update, I read this about him the other day:
91. William Lagesson - Edmonton Oilers - 12gp - 1g - 7a - 8p (USHL)

Lagesson took the odd move to the USHL and has been meeting expectations. He's arguably the best defenseman in the league at the moment, providing his usual defensive strengths while finding more offense playing as the Saints go to defender. The USHL isn't the stiffest competition out there and so if you're going to be a noteworthy prospect, you should do well. Is Lagesson a noteworthy prospect? It's a little too early to tell, but he has that nice blend of natural skill, defensive detail and the ability to get physical. Just needs to continue working on his skating.

Roman Horak with 18 points (12G 6A) in 22 GP in the KHL. Nifty 14 PIMs too.
Makes u wonder a little why he was so quick to sign in the KHL. Might of been able to make this team, especially when u consider the lack of depth at centre.

Probably wasn't particularly interested in a two-way deal when he could be making better money in Russia. When he left the Oilers had RNH, Gagner and Gordon ahead of him in the NHL and Lander outperforming him in the AHL.

The good news is we still hold his rights and he may consider coming over next year after he spends the year in the KHL. We saw it happen with Omark as well.

Nurse with a goal today. 13 points in 10 games. One of the best ppgs for D in the OHL

Another solid period from Nurse in the Subway Super Series. He got an assist off of the Domi power play goal. Nurse is playing a really simple game and making lots of good defensive play. He is really good at breaking the cycle up down low. Canada is leading 2-0.

Easy assist, but he's probably been the best player on the ice.

Edit: and as soon as I post that he takes a tripping call

Nurse was really driving the play which was good to see. He has been easily the OHL's best defensemen during these two games.

I was at the game last night. Don't worry about the tripping call, he was digging for the puck and got leg. He was the best Ohl D out there last night aside from maybe Bigras. Nurse was doing a great job of being physical and getting under the skin of the Russian players, which was key to the win. My dad made a comment that he looks like he's only about 160lbs. With all of the tools he's got, I think putting on muscle mass should be one of his biggest priorities.

Still in limbo I believe. I think Lowetide said that Calgary's GM doesn't appear to be in a rush to trade him.

Comes from the Kevin Lowe school of black balling probably.

What is Marco Roy doing? Guy sounds like suspect prospect so far if you ask me.

:laugh: Yah it wasn't a bad penalty at all, not much he could do but it was a fair call.
He is pretty skinny, but he's also pretty damn strong. At least for the junior level he pushes a lot of guys around. He's just got that long lean frame and long neck, like a young Chris Pronger.

He was 205 before, but his frame is really lanky. I could see him at 225 or 230 in the nhl

That's true, He definitely pushed the Fronts and Russians around when I've seen him live.

Is Samu Perhonen still an Oilers prospect? He's putting up some really solid numbers in Finland this year.

KalPa Liiga 4 2.19 .918
Hokki [Loan] Mestis 5 1.49 .945

IIRC we never qualified him because he was really struggling after we drafted him.
