I don't think that is the right move. Both Thorton/Speeza could put us in a similar problem with BR(both could end up being bandaids). Rangers may need to scout out teams for elite center prospects.

You need a young guy who can mesh with Krieder. I would look to see what Stepan+ package may get you.

What are your thoughts on Ryan O'Reilly?

The idea of trading Stepan to get another center is stupid. The point is to get someone to fill the true number one role so Stepan can slot into the second spot.

How to fix it in the off season thread

I do think a couple of major changes are required. I don't think trading Nash and Staal will be very difficult if they ask for reasonable returns.

1. Buy Richards out. This is an obvious one that basically every Rangers fan knows has to happen. Especially after this finals.

2. Trade Nash. I think they can get a very good young player and high pick for Nash. He will help a team get to the playoffs. They will save a lot of money off the cap.

3. Trade Staal to Carolina for Tlusty, 2nd. Never wanted to do this but I think Allen call really be solid for us on defense on the left side.

4. Bring back Brassard.

5. Appreciate the 4th line. However, you have continue to move more talent in with speed and youth. Very tough decision to let Boyle and D. Moore go but the team has top continue to use the farm and I love Lindberg as a player.

6. Sign Stastny

Pouliot-Brassard-Zucc
Kreider-Stastny-Miller
Hagelin-Stepan-St. Louis
Tlusty-Lindberg-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Allen-Klein
J. Moore-McIrath

The reality is that the Rangers are going to have to break in about 3 rookies next year if they want to add Stastny. The defense core isn't as strong but we knew this day was coming. You can't keep McDonagh, Stralman, Staal and Girardi together forever. Combined they will take up about 20 million of your cap. It doesn't add up. I have a lot of faith in Allen. I think he's going to be a good one. The majority of fans get attached to players, fear change and don't want to go with youth. They obviously won't like that defense above but you have show some faith. You have to believe that the Rangers develop defenseman very well and Allen and McIlrath will be good pro's.

I totally get people love that 4th line. However, you can't really get into a situation where you pay 4th liners 1.5 to 2 million dollar a year when your team doesn't have a huge first line.

$3.7B. 50/50. Benefits will be $120M. $57,666,667 mid-point. Add 5%. Adjusted mid-point. 15% for the range. $69.6M. The NHL and PA could add some of the TV money. Bettman said $69M-$70M.

Sather needs to talk to Nash about trading him. Give him a list, but make it quiet. If word leaked out it would hurt his value IMO. Your 7.8 million dollar player can't be a passenger.

If you believe one board, Nash is probably going to retire at the end of the season because of his concussion problems. That would change everything. It would clear his cap space I believe but obviously, we get nothing in return.

Its a shame but its clear both he and Staal are never going to be the same players because of their concussions.

The Rangers need more size.

The Rangers need more right handed shooting forwards.

The Rangers need more size.

QFT. I've been harping about the Rangers style of play and roster not matching up against the heavy teams in the league, and these are two reasons why. The bigger teams can just throw it along the boards and physically win battles.

The team needs RH shots up front to set up quicker shots, and also have areas in which RH can receive the puck better. It would help the powerplay greatly too.

What I would do, is move the players that are adversely opposed to physical play away from the roster. Meaning guys that turn the puck over as soon as they feel pressure.

The size factor is a major issue, and the Rangers need that big center, they need another two centers with size, preferably one that is RH shot.

Defense I am okay with, but I would move out JMoore, and replace him with a player that is willing to take a hit to make a play, that way there won't be a component on the back end that needs to be sheltered.

Upfront I'd say bye to Dorsett, Richards, Pouliot, one of Boyle/Moore retaining who ever is easiest to sign.

I'd look at Miller and Fast internally upfront, Conor Allen on the backend and others via trade or free agency. Re-Sign Stralman too.

They need to get bigger down the middle and they need another smooth skating offensive d-man. They need to find a goal scorer who can go to the net hard and fit in this system and Richards needs to be bought out.

I would say despite of him.

Stephan is weak. Very unimpressive

Huh? 14 points in 22 games. Playing with a broken jaw. Nash has scored 3 goals all post-season.

What is unimpressive? Is it the simple fact that he isn't Kopitar? Stepan would be one of the best #2 centers in hockey if the Rangers could ever find a dominant #1.

The fact of the matter is that the Rangers are reliant upon several expensive forwards who just didn't produce. Richards was abysmal, Nash can't buy a goal, and MSL has been entirely average for a guy who was "last year's Art Ross winner". Say what you want about the other pieces, but if your big guns don't come through eventually, you're screwed.

Rangers could use more size. They could use another defender who can rush the puck and be a PP option. They need a finisher. They have no money, and few non-personnel assets to deal. They also are going to be forced to break up the locker room once again after the team made the deepest run since '94. It's a mess.

Tells me all I need to know.

Lol

On another note, this team is REALLY going to regret locking up Girardi long-term and letting Stralman walk. I realize G generally has the harder D-Matchups, but Stralsy just looks unreal out there.

What are your thoughts on Ryan O'Reilly?

He will come here and be hated. He plays behind Duchene and Stastny. Those two lines are getting the best d-matchups. If he comes here and centers our first line, he will get shut down because he'll start seeing top pairs and will not be what he is now.

Somewhat goes for Stastny as well, who is paying with Landeskog and Mackinnon, but to a lesser extent.

Boullion and Thornton are far to expensive as extras. JT Miller needs a legit shot next year.

Sign Carcillo and Diaz to cheap deals and keep them as extras.

Brassard, Boyle, D. Moore and Zucc will all get more then that IMO.

Allen on the second pairing is playing with fire, although I'd like to give him a shot there.

The idea for both was to show there was plenty of cap room. Sign them for whatever but I think both would be VERY solid depth signings.

I wouldn't mind either of them.

I don't think so, but maybe.

I think he'd be find playing with Staal.

Stepan is a solid #2. Brassard is also a #2 (although I think Stepan is better). Richards was playing like a #2 at times in the playoffs, now he's hardly a #3. Rangers don't have a #1 center, it's a huge gaping hole.
