60 points and good two way play isn't enough for a good second line center?

Can you name some other players who you consider good second line centers?

You're right he's more than a top 2C and is a fine bottom 1c.

But his game is flawed and it shows vs more athletic guys. Kopitar, Getzlaf, etc.
Need to start getting more athletic.
Yeah we still need more acquisitions, more horses.
But Miller at max min is a part of the solution, not the problem.

Buyout Richards.
Resign Stralman, Boyle, Moore.
Trade Girardi for Edler for some more firepower on Defense.
Sign Stastny as a replacment for Richards.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Stastny-MSL
Pouliot-Brassard-MZA
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

McDonagh-Edler
Staal-Stralman
Klein-Moore

Lundqvist
Talbot

I think that the Rangers have to fill two forward slots internally and move some players out of the line up. IMO Signing a guy like Joe Vitale to replace Dorsett would be a huge value add.

RH shot that can play center, win faceoffs, and kill penalties for a $200K premium above Dorsett is well worth it, and allows the Rangers to live with losing one of Boyle/Moore.

Basically a roster that can add more roles, and versatility will be needed. This finals has shown that the Rangers have done nothing to change strategy or line ups to get anything going, and that is a flawed coaching strategy since the Kings didn't have to make any adjustments. But at the same time, the depth in this line up has been maxed out, and the inconsistent and softer components haven't stepped up.

The ideal target for the Rangers is a top 6 center with size and RH shot, unfortunately the one on the market that is a fit, doesn't get along with AV in Ryan Kesler. There is also Spezza, but the Sens aren't trading him to the east. Stasny would be a mistake of epic proportions waiting to happen. He doesn't add much over Richards, and will be paid a high cap hit.

The Rangers sadly are going to have to either strike gold at center, or wait another year to address the position.

I am certain that this wouldn't be plausible cap wise.

I am imagining that the Rangers are salivating at the prospect of Steven Stamkos being a UFA in 2 years time. Signing someone like Stastny would eliminate them from that conversation. Then again, you never know with Glen. The guy has fomo on overpriced fa's.

The Rangers need to miss the playoffs and have a top pick to get one of those players. That's not happening.
Generally, yes - and that's why I would've been okay with that scenario rather than the moves for Jokinen, Antropov, etc. during those years. With the current team it's obviously not an option.

And so, they're left with trading either for the player himself or for a pick to get him. Seguin was available last year - who's available this year? I like all three centers that the Panthers have - do they really plan to keep them all? What would it take to get Huberdeau, for example? Who else might be out there?

And failing that, trade into the draft to get one.
Brady Skjei hasn't made his decision concerning staying in school or turning pro. His season ended two months ago. Skjei is physically ready for the NHL. His skating ability is top notch. He is taking summer school classes. Rangers prospects camp is in 3 weeks. Maybe Skjei will make his decision after prospects camp. The Rangers and Skjei figure out where he is in his development and when he can play in the NHL. If the Rangers feel Skjei is close to playing in the NHL,they could move Staal in a trade instead of paying him.

The Rangers interviewed Dylan Larkin at the scouting combine last month. They don't have a #1 pick. They could be gathering intel on Larkin and the other prospects for down the road if there a trade possibility. The Rangers liked McDonagh in 2007. He was taken 12th that year. Clark liked him. Gorton was still with Boston at the 2007 combine. In 2009,Gorton and Clark told Sather to acquire McDonagh based on what they saw at the 2007 combine.

Usually its doesn't take 2 months to make a decision about staying in school.

Maybe the Rangers are looking to shed a contract and looking for a #1 in return as part of the deal.
I very much hope that this is the direction they're going. We all know they can't afford to keep everyone - nor can they afford to trade for anyone with a cap hit. There's plenty of help coming on the left side with Skjei/Allen/Bodie/Graves. Staal is a year from FA. He may want to play with his brothers. He keeps getting injured. He's an okay, but not great fit for AV's system. Move him for picks/prospects - potentially in a deal to get the center we need.

The problem isnt Stepan, its that they dont have any Cs who can skate particularly well.

If they had a 2C who could skate then it would be perfectly fine with Stepan as a 1C

The idea of a deal revolving around Staal to get a guy like Pavelski makes a lot of sense for both teams. Definitely an idea that's growing on me.

Well put. He's not a top 1C by any means, but he's a good 1C, and solid depth scoring can make that alright. Frankly, I think this team is way closer to being able to have great depth scoring than they are to getting their hands on a top 1C, so I'd aim toward that.

Anything Step can do to be more athletic, he should do. No question. But he's done well for himself as he is also. LA's top forwards haven't accomplished much this series despite feasting on other teams.

If a main complaint is we lack top line scoring talent resigning Boyle and Moore will hurt out ability to improve that.

This whole idea is not how you win.

You win by making 4 good lines. Not 1 good one and a bunch of average/poor lines.

Rangers biggest need is a Top-6 C that can be relied on to win face-offs.

I really think adding some offensive ability to the blueline takes precedence over adding another forward.

ideally we'd do both.

too bad we're in such a cap crunch. Byuf could probably be had. he plays forward, and can play the point on the PP (which is really the need for the offensive defenseman we all talk about.)

stick Byuf on the back and have him bomb away, let the play run through McD

We only have two above average puck movers as is, and only one of them is better than below average offensively.

Definitely not trying to say it's not a concern.

I think the bigger problem there is all our D minus McD have no puck ability at all. That includes Girardi and especially Staal.

And if anything, I'd rather a LHD puck mover like perhaps Gardiner, to play with Stralman. Both are advanced stats heroes and Gardiner's puck carrying ability is totally nonexistant on this team.

Would be down with a McDonagh-Girardi/Gardiner-Stralman top-4. Gardiner should be relatively cheap, too (in terms of cap hit), so that'll help even more.

The fact that we're in the finals and the way we've competed there are certainly positives to build on.

But we're gonna have trouble building. The main thing we still lack is a big two-way top 6 center. Where the **** are we getting one?
