I will be supremely pissed if we missed the playoffs, but Sather dealing away more first and second rounders at the deadline would also infuriate me. I guess what I'm saying is that we should get a 99th percentile performance out of the entire team and win the Stanley Cup and avoid either situation.

Why do u think Kreider will get less than 2M, and Moore more than his QO?

AFAIK, Kreider's season was similar to Max Patches Season, where he went to arbitration, and was elected a $1.6M contract. It's been rumored Kreider's may be the same. However, when doing the math, it seems Kreider scored 40% more points than Patches did in his ELC (counting only NHL performances, no playoffs).... Which would actually put Kreider at a 2 year bridge of $2.25M... similar to Hagelin's extension.

As for Moore, I assumed the worst, which would be a holdout for a 40%~ raise.

You can sub Stempniak out for any other LW/RW, and switch Zucc accordingly...

The more I look at the 3rd line of Hagelin-Miller-MSL, the more I feel like I want to see it in action.... Just my gut...

Looks like Mueller and Lombardi are the 12th and 13th forwards... No carcillo coming back as far as I can tell, which kind of sucks imo... wanted him back :/

There's also a crazy weird chance that someone like Haggerty or Kristo is pulled out of the pack in the middle of the season be tried on the 2nd line of XXXX-Brass-Zucc... I could see either of them working really well on that line. Both LW's, Haggerty has a Right Hand Shot. Kristo is going to be a big time sniper soon enough...

I like our chances with this lineup because:
- Miller effectively replaces Brad Richards' Even Strength Points and Minutes, with a chance to grow and EXCEED Brad Richards' performance last year. Speed alone will probably keep that line working really well, as all of those players are very fast.

- Boyle replaces or exceeds Brad Richards' Power Play Points and Minutes

- The 13th F and 7th D are on the SUPER cheap, which allows us greater cap flexibility at the deadline

- I still see some Solid PKing abilities in Hagelin, Glass, Nash, Moore, McD, Staal, etc... The PK should take a minor hit in the absolute WORST case scenario...

- Stempniak should be the cheapest and most effective Pouliot replacement. Helps having a vet on that line due to poor defense thanks to Brassard... HOWEVER, Stempniak's +/- is horrific... not sure if that's due one or more of a) the Pens being a bad defensive team, b) Calgary being a horrible team in general, c) Stempniak playing with horrific linemates, or d) Stempniak having minimal defense to his game... If anyone has any insight on this, please fill me in

- In the event Stempniak goes to another team, I think David Booth is another guy to take a flyer on... Has played for AV before, and looks like a clone of Stempniak, with a much better +/-... Also worth noting that a) he is a natural left winger which slots him right in to the Zucc-Brass line, and b) He was BOUGHT OUT of his contract, so there's a good chance he takes a high paycut to not only play again in his career, but as a bonus gets to play for a coach that he's played with before, on a cup contending team to boot.
again, haven't watched him play, so not sure how accurate those few stats are.

Better hope we stay healthy cause if we get a rash of injuries things will get ugly. Where the hell is our depth?

At 41 contracts right now + Duclair & Graves that will both most likely slide going back to juniors
6 RFAs left to sign (Brassard. Kreider, Zuccarello, J Moore, Bourque and Kristo).
Winds up with 47 contracts
Expect two more signings for NYR
Possibly One of Car bomb/ Carter for 4th line duty
Plus something else on the cheap (reclamation UFA or something outta the blue) - Likely something like Stempniak, Booth or Penner
Leave one spot open (could we sign Hayes?)
Then most likely a trade - probably not a huge one either. I am thinking MPS
Depth hereby added
No poisonous wasted contracts in org this year either like Kyle Beach or Jason Wilson...

Matthew Lombardi? Really? I didn't even realize he signed over seas last season. Why waste a contract. I'd honestly rather sink or swim with Lindberg than sign Lombardi and I have no faith in our "top" prospects being able to fill in yet. It infuriates me even more seeing Ribiero sign for 1 million and we dished out 1.45 for a useless 4th liner in Glass. But it's only July 16!:sarcasm:

At 800k, he can be sent down without any cap penalty. It's an insurance policy, the kids will have an opportunity to win a spot.

What would be worse would be to have Miller or Lindberg play in the NHL, even if they aren't ready, simply because we have no other option and subsequently hurt their development.

Nah, a good hockey players is always a good hockeyplayer and Lombardi definitely has a lot of hockey in him.

He had a tough period and has fought his way back. If it goes south there is no risk, if he can stay healthy we get a low 2nd / high 3rd line player for 800k x 2 years. That is good.

There are a lot of players in this league who somewhat are square pegs in round holes. They are played by people with intentions but things don't always work out (players play on 3-4 lines because they are young, tough, big, great on the PK or whatever, not necessarily because they are the best player for the job). We saw the value of having a good player with Dom Moore last season. Lombardi is a player like that.

Lombardi signing is interesting. He can obviously still play hockey. The question is how effective he can be at the NHL level. He has to know that there's a chance he spends his time in Hartford. This is a lot like signing Peteer Mueller, except that he's older.

Still would like to see a winger on a cheap deal.

Neither Richards nor Pouliot have been close to being replaced.

They replace Richards numbers with St. Louis and Pouliot's with the combination of Miller and Boyle. I think the offense will be the same production wise. It's the defensive side they need to worry about.

Would Booth take 1 million? Lots of injuries but could be a good fit.

Yeah, and I am definitely not against packing some talent deep in the lineup. But Derek Roy, Mike Riberio, Dave Booth, Peter Mueller and co are high maintainance players that require a lot of support on the ice. Pp time and what not.

Also, with the Rangers supposedly talking to Ribeiro, it's not a surprise to see a signing like this quickly after Ribeiro went elsewhere.

Here's the thing. I don't really have a problem with this signing (no risk can be sent to hartford with no cap hit etc).. so how can they do something like this for 800K, but then they give Tanner Glass a contract for 1.5M?.. This franchise makes no sense to me most of the time

You have the order of things backwards there. Plus, Tanner Glass was on the main display and Lombardi was in the clearance bin.

Yeah, but they found him in the clearance bin anyway, maybe they should have looked around rather than jump at someone on the main display who quite frankly is not very good.

Tanner Glass played in the NHL last season, Lombardi didnt

Tanner Glass played in the NHL last season, Lombardi didnt

I understand this, still doesn't make it a good signing, especially when they could have just found someone much better (if he has anything left) for 700K less.. Sather always seems to jump at a goon regardless of who it is, every off season.

I feel the defense will be okay and the offense is FUBAR.

May not be FUBAR, since it wasn't that great to begin with. I've been saying since before Richards was bought-out that his production will need to be replaced. I haven't worked out the numbers fully, and it won't be coming from one person, but it's replaceable. Boyle should replace his PP goals and points, and perhaps provide an extra goal or point on the PP. Boyle should also provide a bit more offensively than the outgoing Stralman. Still have lots of replacing to do. MSL should ease some of that burden, but he still needs someone to play with. MSL could replace Po's PP goals, which leaves only 8 goals at ES to replace for Poo. If healthy, the Nash-Stepan-Kreider line should produce more goals. Stepan and Kreider around 20 and Nash around 30 isn't too unreasonable. MSL around 25 and even if it is Miller in there chipping in around 8 kind of gets you back to where the team was last season...assuming all else is equal, as in Brassard and Zucc putting up the same numbers without Poo (and none of this gives credit to Poo's replacement). OK, a lot has to happen and guys needs to stay healthy, but at the same time, there is room for the numbers above to grow. Again, counting on Nash stepping up and MSL his usual, consistent self; not the regular season MSL guy we say play for the Rangers. it may not be the best odds, but it's not the most dire either.

That's a total of 660 points scored on the roster. Assuming only 1/3 of those are goals, meaning EVERY goal has a primary and secondary assist, that accounts for 220 GF... roughly the same as last year, except I'm not factoring much growth for each player. It's very possible Stepan, Zucc, and Nash all hit 70 points.
