Penner is out there. Fedotenko. He's kind of old but if he can still keep up--he's a smart player that can do a bit of everything. Penner is a big body and will give you inconsistent offense. Kind of like Pouliot.

Feds didn't retire yet?

Too old.

Penner is too slow and inconsistent.

Signing Hayes would put an end to this silly Penner/Setoguchi/Leino business.

Kreider Stepan St. Louis
Nash Brassard Zuccarello
Hagelin Miller Hayes
Glass Moore Stempniak

Why is it silly? It's realistic if anything.

Are we not allowed to speculate? Or share our own opinion?

His linemates perform better with him than without almost uniformly, often significantly:

Ok, but I'm curious as to his possession numbers. The linemates performing better is nice and all, I think Poo is a good player, but I'm curious about his possession this season vs. prior years. Can you help out here?

Five more penalties than he drew over 82 games. The previous two seasons, he was a net positive.

I think it was more so due to:

A) The types of penalties he takes
B) The timing of those penalties

Yes that was what I was trying to say about poo regarding the penalties

This season he was very good. In previous seasons he's been very good.

Of course not. I suppose "silly" wasn't the apt word. I just don't want Penner anywhere near the Rangers, so I'm rooting for Hayes to sign here so that discussion can be buried. That's all. Didn't mean anything personal or offensive towards anyone.

Penalties taken matter, but not penalties don't.

K.

And when is a good time to take a penalty?

Offensive zone penalties are BAD PENALTIES., a good penalty would be to save a goal, ie laying out a player before he knocks it into the open net. Unfortunately for Poo it was those horrible offensive zone penalties he took

Rangers traded Andre Dupont to the Blues in the Gene Carr deal in the early 70's. Dupont was a recent first round pick and would go on to be an integral part of the Broad St. Bullies Philadelphia Flyers that went on to win two Stanley Cups. Dupont was one of the toughest and meanest defensemen of his era--a top 4 defenseman on a team that contended pretty much every year for the Stanley Cup for at least a decade. Carr didn't do a hell of a lot for us. Bill Chadwick--the Rangers TV color man use to say all the time that Carr's shot couldn't hit the ocean if he were standing on the end of a pier.

100% accurate

I want McIl for our 3rd RD, since it is just stay at home def.
My understanding is he can skate well enuf.
Unless that is in error, I do not want him coming to another team and pummeling us coupla times per year.

Hayes or bust, huh?

What if Hayes doesn't sign with us?

Basically I was responding to a post of what potential players were out there if Hayes didn't sign with us. I know it's inconceivable that Hayes won't sign with us but....

And I'm not particularly worried that we sign anybody even if Hayes decides he'd rather play somewhere else. I was just mentioning a couple names...that was all. I didn't care for Leino, Setoguchi or Loktionov--so I offered a couple other ideas.

As for Fedetenko his KHL team went bust...he's actively looking for another team and is willing to come back to North America. He once went to one of our training camps as a complete free agent without a contract and won a job and he gave us a couple very good years. Just saying.

It's not something that you should get uptight about.

Whaaaaat? Who would do such a thing ?

Really though, where did you hear that?

Not a lesser deal in terms of money, but years. One team apparantely offered Poo 6 years, but not at $4M, but 3 and change. EDM gave one less year but more money per year.

Poo was sought after by teams that value nerd stats. Basically he is a very good asset to have vs 3rd pair D, provided he shows up to play.

He was excellent for the Rangers in the 2nd half and playoffs, but the guy coasted through the first 35 games of the year last year, and had a couple of really bad playoff games.

Still, it was the most consistent showing of his career, and he cashes in after a very good 2nd half and a chunk of the playoffs. Guy was excellent in the Pitts series.

Yeah this was it, my apologies.

Like i said earlier in the thread... I dont see Fedotenko as an NHL regular anymore. And even if he could be a 4th line player i dont think its on the rangers. I dont think he can skate with AVs style. And i loved fedotenko when he was here

There's never a "good" time to take a penalty, but don't act like there aren't certain times that are just killers. Remember that Ryan Hollweg major in the Pittsburgh series that I still maintain cost us that game and in effect the series. Not that Pouliot has done anything on that level, but he had quite a few penalties this year at horrid times especially in the second round.

Two things that's wrong with this.

1) Hayes isn't sure to sign here so what happens as a backup plan
2) We shouldn't be promising any kid a roster spot.

Feds would be a nostalgia signing at thins point and a complete waste of money. I love the guy, but major pass.

offensive zone. bad time to take a penalty. backchecking on a 2 on 1...good time to take a penalty.

i like pouliot, but even you gotta admit some if not most of his penalties were of the stupid variety. avoidable.

Chris Kreider is no different, kid takes a LOT of dumb penalties.

I find that the major difference there is that Kreider's penalties seem to be the result of trying to do too much at times, whereas Poo's were a lack of discipline and just complete brain farts.

The season needs to start.

September and training camp can't get here soon enough.

I feel like we have all exhausted every argument we could by now. At this point it just looks like irritation from all of us while waiting for some real hockey.

The only issue going right now is Kevin Hayes, and according to some he's making his decision sometime today/tonight. After the "oh damns" after he signs elsewhere, things on here will be really slow.

No. Hardly.
Then the Leino, Penner, Setoguchi speculation begins.
Thereafter Carter, Carcillo, Fedotenko chatter
Ends with a "Sean Avery rumored seen skating for a NYR comeback" thread
