In theory yes but glass will play. Fast could beat out Lombardi as he could spare still but gonna guess he starts in the ahl. Lindberg and fast still top call ups . Kristo has a shot too

I rather have dethroned in CT anyway. Mueller , bourque , younger bourque

Why should Glass play when we have capable hockey players?

Pretty good foresight - no ? ;)
We signed Stempniak (waiting for $$$).
We are reportedly in on Hayes (which Brooks Broke after this post)
Now just let us sign The RFAs to reasonable $$$ and one of Carter/Carcillo for cheap
And finally await a minor trade after camp (maybe Morin or MPS)
Nostradamus hath spoken

Good job, man.

You know a lot of us were hoping for Stempniak, so this is great news.

I honestly did not think they could squeez another signing in, but i was wrong.

The RFAs are going to make our cap really tight.

I like this roster much more now with Lombardi as a 4th liner. Much better depth. We added the extra right handed shot i was hoping for with Stempniak. Get him some PP time to give the PP a different look.

I admit when i am wrong. And i was dead wrong.

Looks like they could fit another player. Thankfully it was a player a lot of us hoped for. Stempniak is going to be a good addition. Leadership, hard work, right handed shot. Kind of player that will show up in the playoffs.

Now, we just have to hope we can squeeze in the RFAs under the cap, and not have to jettison anyone to make it work.

Going to be tight. But IMO, i feel this roster is on par, potentially more versatile than it was in 13-14.

My only concerns are:

1- Can D. Boyle handle Stralman's 5v5 minutes.
2- Will J.T. Miller take ownership of that center spot.
3- Will Staal suffer from losing Stralman or will he return to pre-injuries Staal.
4- Will Lombardi bounce back (i think he will).
5- Will Glass be given and fit into a role where he will be useful.

Sign the RFAs. Give McDonagh the C, and lets go to war.
The depth is there, the speed is there.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Miller - St. Louis
Stempniak - Brassard - Zuccarello
Glass - D.Moore - Lombardi
Mueller

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Boyle
J.Moore - Klein
Kostka

Lundqvist

Do I need to answer that ? He's signed for 3 yrs to play. If later in say playoff time a guy like fast is the better option sure he sits but for now he's pencilled in 4th live

He's also the only fighter really

stempniak in at one year, $900.000 for #nyr. Who else didn't play well for pens against nyr in playoffs that team can sign?

How many years did we give Asham, Rupp, and Brashear and how many years did they actually spend on the team? These guys always wash out after a season of ineffective play. We don't need fighters. We need hockey players.

Still have a feeling that they are trying to do something else trade related. What that is with our limited cap space I have no idea but still got that feeling.

So, are we as a collective fanbase over the "Omigod, we've lost everyone from last year, we can't make the playoffs, it's July 2nd, someone wake this front office up, why isn't the opening night lineup set in stone yet?" phase of the off-season?

My guess for opening night:
Kreider-stepan-nash
Hags-miller/Lindberg-MSL
Stemp-Brass-Zucc
Bourque-Moore-Lombardi

McD-G
Staal-Boyle
Moore-Klein

McD:C
Staal:A

I'm begging you guys to stop listing Miller as our 2nd line center. He has yet to prove he's capable of being an everyday 3C.

I get that you're obsessed with spreading offense throughout the lineup, but be realistic:

1) J.T. Miller will not be centering Marty St. Louis or Mats Zuccarello on opening night.

2) Derek Stepan and Derrick Brassard are our top 2 centers. They will likely be centering our four best wingers (Zuccarello, St. Louis, Nash, Kreider).

3) J.T. Miller (IF he wins the 3C job; competition with Lindberg, Lombardi) will be centering a line with Carl Hagelin on the left and likely Lee Stempniak on the right. That's our third line. Zuccarello and Brassard are not third line players, no matter how much you want Miller to set the NHL on fire.

I fully agree with your lines there!

Yes there are some clear question marks. To me the worst signing is Glass since he doesn't seem to do much in playoffs.

But I think we also need to focus on the improvement potential for some players:
I feel that the entire 1st line can play better. Kreider and Stepan are still young. Nash finally understands what it takes to compete in playoffs and should improve.

On the 2nd line(to me that's BrassArd line), I do feel that Brassard needs to become more consistent and he can get there. I think that he needs more ice time. He only averaged around 15 minutes last season. With Richards gone and Miller not playing as much as Richards was, that should add at least 2-3 minutes for Brassard. Brassard seems to gain more confidence with more ice time ...

On the 3rd line, I know that Miller has a lot more upside left. MSL should be able to teach him a lot. Even Hagelin in the playoffs was just showing us what more he can offer. This season I think he will show us that more consistently.

The 4th line is not bad. Good speed. Just lacks some size.

In general, I like the upside of this team. With Richards gone it will give more ice time and PP time to some younger players!

Kreider - Stepan - St. Louis
Zuccarello - Brassard - Nash
Hagelin - Miller/Lombardi/Lindberg- Stempniak
Glass - D.Moore - K Hayes (Fast)
Carcillo (Carter ?)

BIG Question is if it can fit $$$ wise??

We should put him in zany five-way trades that includes half the organization for Malkin, Stamkos, Ovechkin, and Erik Karlsson...amiright?

What about watching the 13-14 season, would have anyone believe this coaching staff delegates numbers to this team's lines?

There is a clear "4th" line, and then there are 3 lines full of players they can deploy in any situation they feel neccessary at the time.

You don't just put your best three forwards on one line, the next best three on the second, and so on down the lineup. The idea is to find balance. It's simplest and most sensible to fit Stempniak right in with Zucc and Brass.

Nash doesn't really need Stepan or Brassard. He doesn't use his teammates well and he creates a lot on his own. It makes sense to put him with Miller, who will be our third line center as Sather basically came out and said. St. Louis, on the other hand, relies on teammates to drive possession which he can then use to generate high percentage chances. He slots in ideally with Stepan and Kreider.

Lombardi can play the Brian Boyle role as the second center for the fourth line flanking Moore. Any offense he chips in is a bonus and his speed can cause unexpected havoc against weak matchups. Lindberg should begin in the AHL where he can continue polishing his game. Hopefully reason will prevail and Fast will beat out Glass for the other fourth line wing job.

This is a fully operational roster... 13h and 14th forward, 7th and 8th D...
