2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

God I ****ing love this team.

So happy for the fans that get to enjoy a deep ride for once, and at the right time.

Also thrilled for the prospects just answering the bell over and over.

Again, love this ****ing team.

I would Cool the expectations of Mersch. He looks great, and is a perfomring well his first AHL season.

But, Dwight King, Trevor Lewis, were also 20G scorers in the AHL. AHL production while good, does not translate into NHL production.

We got an eye full of that with Nick Shore, who I think is more skilled than Mersch.

So far Weal and Mersch look great, and are having awesome playoff runs.

But I doubt either is of top six player caliber in the NHL. Tyler Toffoli is immensely skilled, and just had his first season of warranting being a top six performer(regularly).
Lewis just had one outstanding AHL season because during his career people said he lacked offensive skill. He would never become a big scorer. Both King and Lewis were never one of the best for the teams they have played for.

Obviously it all remains to be seen with Mersch but I wouldnt compare him with King and Lewis.

Mersch and Weal are leading the team by example and Mersch was the (2nd) best player for his team during his junior and senior seasons.

If I had to choose between Mersch and Zykov for any kind of NHL career, I know who I would choose.

hear hear! hope they get the cup!!

according to who? lotta folks have been saying, for example, that weal def. has what it takes to make nhl. backman and oni were both awesome in last night's game.

true o'neil's a bit older for making nhl, coz he's almost 27, and backman's even older at 29.

but weal just turned 23, so he's got the youth and game to at least be given a shot in the nhl.

My thought was that the size on Weal might be a problem but i'm not informed so I'm really just wondering about players in Monarch that might be looking at Europe to either make money or try and take the next step.

looks like the ahl site gave credit to shore not kempe.
anyhow, woot! 3-1

Goal being credited to Shore, but these really, really awesome press box(?) seats gave us a clear view - it was Kempe.

McIlrath takes a penalty to put the Monarchs on the PP. He's the Rangers' version of Teubert, a stupid defenseman who had no business being taken as high as he was in his draft year. Him being selected ahead of Fowler is comical.
