2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

Jason Lewis has a new blog up at hockeybuzz: Getting to Know the Kids. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Jason-Lewis/Getting-to-Know-the-Kids/179/68796 I won't be able to listen to the game on Saturday. I'm hoping to catch up later if you all are able to supply some commentary during the game.

Good comments and video above. Would love to comment but I've gotta run.

Congratulations to the Reign on their win. Impressive To come back with 2 wins after a tough Game 1 loss.

That's actually pretty common place for weekday games in the AHL. I'd expect a much larger crowd on Saturday. But equally small crowds for game 3 & 4 (Tues & Wed.) in Hartford. It's just the way it is in the AHL.

It seems to me a lot fans still thumb their noses at the AHL. I get it. It's hard to watch the games, so it's hard to get into them. But I think that's starting to change. The AHL is truly starting to become an extension of the NHL. It's only been in the past 6 years that they've had 30 teams to fully match the NHL's 30. And with next season move west. That will be another major move in getting the AHL teams into their NHL markets. Which I think will have a large impact.

The Monarchs (and next year, the Reign) are truly the Kings. It's just an extension, or a b-squad of the LA Kings. When attending a Monarchs games you feel that in every sense. From the team, to their jerseys, to the pre-game introduction, even the merchandise stand. It's all Kings. That's why despite living on the east coast, I'm excited about the move to Ontario. I'm excited for Kings fans to get more into and more involved in the American league club. And I agree with the other posters. That will bring out larger crowds than we're seeing in Manchester.

Good post....no doubt the crowd will be a lot bigger when the Monarchs make the move, but just considering the population difference which has to be hundreds of thousands of people.

My favorite part of Monarchs hockey radio is, "free fries for everyone," which is yelled out as soon as the Monarchs score their fourth goal! Which leads me to two questions. Has anybody heard about a broadcast out here next year, and the even more important, free fries for everyone!!!! Ha! Can't wait to see some games! Might even stop by San Diego to see what the quacks have coming as well!

You know in all the years I've been going there. I've never once cashed in on my free fries. lol

My guess on the broadcast for next season is that it will be the current Ontario Reign broadcaster. I know that Ken Cail (Monarchs broadcaster) is staying in Manchester.

Only cashed them in once and I gave them to my brother in laws kids. Usually I give the ticket stub to a kid after the game who is going to use them.
Cail is likely sticking around. He has other stuff he does with 107.7. Has some political oriented stuff as well on the same channel. Bob Lobel used to be on that channel as well but I think he moved on.

does anyone have a broadcast feed for tonight's game? thx.

backman with the first goal - 1-nothing!

wait a second - great skate by weal to bring it in, pass to o-neill, and typical mersch standing there waiting to score.

2-nothing!

----------

second period, things falling apart.
wolfpack have tied it within minutes: 2 all

Nobody has an answer for Mersch in front of the net.

I really hope the guy is one of the last cuts in training camp, and gets 1/2 a season more in the AHL to truly refine his game. Him being a mid season callup a-la Voynov after the Johnson trade would be ideal.

Would be interesting if Gaborik was shifted back to RW and the Kings found room at LW on the roster for Mersch. As of now the top 4 LWs are Gaborik, Pearson, King and Clifford. Andreoff is the 5th LW (don't think he'll be a C in the NHL).

Sounds like Mersch is killing it but honestly guys, he has 1 year experience in the AHL and he is primed to take a position that is not available...a 2nd or 3rd line LW spot...Those are taken by Pearson and King.

He doesn't have to take one of their spots.

Mersch is a LW.

Kings have Gaborik, Pearson, King and Clifford as the top 4 LW'ers. King was a healthy scratch once this year and Clifford probably 1-2 times. Those are pretty much all everyday players.
