2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

Mersch is just UNREAL around the net! Both goals came from scrabbles in front of the net. The only question about Mersch right now is who has an available room for him in Manhattan Beach.

This game has been broken up in 10 minute halfs. Monarchs control play for one, the Wolf Pack the other. Those 2 goals in the final 10 there were huge!

^ agree, so much better to end the period 3-1.

listening to the wolfpack feed; great interview with o'neill!

Weak goal to let up for Berube. Hartford has gained a lot of momentum from it. Prior to that he was playing his best game of the playoffs.

Yeah, shots 6-1 this period, favoring Hartford.

McIlrath given a 10-minute misconduct.

Under 2 minutes to play, Monarchs working to protect their lead. A couple of good chances by Shore and Van Der Gulik, I think. Nic Dowd is the Magic Man keeping the Wolf Pack from getting on the board. 8 seconds left. Timeout.

MONARCHS WIN!!! 3-2!

Opponents best D. No goalie!

 Scuffle breaks out after the game is over.

ETA: Nic Dowd is the 2nd star. Michael Mersch is the first star. Nic Dowd is a talker, good interview.

Chris Bourque was the 3rd star. He assisted on both goals.

For those interested. This is the intro video for the Monarchs that's played in Manchester. It's pretty dramatic. I think I'm gonna make the first part my new getting dressed in morning music. lol

Highlights of the game should be up soon.

I dunno.

The music is a little too subtle and understated for me.:sarcasm:

The Monarchs are playing their last games in Manchester, they are in the Conference Finals but they are averaging 2,000 people...this stinks, really

That's actually pretty common place for weekday games in the AHL. I'd expect a much larger crowd on Saturday. But equally small crowds for game 3 & 4 (Tues & Wed.) in Hartford. It's just the way it is in the AHL.

It seems to me a lot fans still thumb their noses at the AHL. I get it. It's hard to watch the games, so it's hard to get into them. But I think that's starting to change. The AHL is truly starting to become an extension of the NHL. It's only been in the past 6 years that they've had 30 teams to fully match the NHL's 30. And with next season move west. That will be another major move in getting the AHL teams into their NHL markets. Which I think will have a large impact.

The Monarchs (and next year, the Reign) are truly the Kings. It's just an extension, or a b-squad of the LA Kings. When attending a Monarchs games you feel that in every sense. From the team, to their jerseys, to the pre-game introduction, even the merchandise stand. It's all Kings. That's why despite living on the east coast, I'm excited about the move to Ontario. I'm excited for Kings fans to get more into and more involved in the American league club. And I agree with the other posters. That will bring out larger crowds than we're seeing in Manchester.

Sad to hear that.

But it's gonna' be SRO in Ontario, I'll bet.
:nod::nod::nod::yo:

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Whether ECHL or AHL, playoffs are ALWAYS harder to get attendance for than the regular season once you get below the NHL -- lack of group sales, lack of lead time to sell specific dates, etc... as well as in the ECHL, there's a specific league-imposed charge per ticket distributed to go into the players' playoff share pool, meaning there's far fewer giveaway tickets given at that level for the playoffs. For comparison:

http://echl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance

Post-season 2015:

Ontario (9th) 20,522 7 2,932
Regular-season 2014-15:
Ontario (1st) 280,866 36 7,802

http://theahl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance

Post-season 2015:
Manchester (10th) 24,059 6 4,010
Regular-season 2014-15:
Manchester (15th) 213,606 38 5,621

Maybe that would change with the ECHL move to the AHL, and if there is a first-round Ontario/San Diego matchup, but I doubt we'll see the decades-long trend of poor minor-league post-season attendance change just with one season's move.

JMO, of course.

week day games can be sketchy sometimes.
hopefully things pick up for game 2. I am hoping to go.

wasn't sure what to expect out of the team after a long layoff. always good to win game 1. hopefully they hold serve at home tomorrow. this will not be a easy series. Hartford is a very good club. as much as it pains me to say it.
