2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

one match from a sweep. let's see if monarchs can get it done tomorrow!
a few give away goals but all-in-all a great team effort tonight.

Just from listening to the game on radio it sounded like a one-sided affair in favor of Manchester.

I hope they sweep the Wolfpack tomorrow and get some rest, the Utica Comets and Grand Rapids Griffins are tied at 1-1 with Game 3 and Game 4 set for Thursday and Friday and Game 5 on Sunday.

Shore and O'Brien both with multi-point games with a goal and an assist.

Shore was also a plus four. Going to be fun watching his game grow when he's a full time regular with the Kings next season.

Very, very good. Manchester looked pretty dominant. Two Wolfpack goals came off pp's, and the 3rd goal was a bit of a fluke with 0.1 left in the game.

Missed the third period. Glad to hear the Monarchs pulled out a 5-3 win. Overall impressions of the team?

Overall, way too much depth for a minor league team for the others to handle. In general, this team could beat a handful of NHL teams. The Kings of last year lets say minus Quick, Doughty, Carter, and Kopitar, would simply have their hands full. There is some talent here. What I also see is a Kings culture of playing the system. Other AHL teams are not nearly as bought into by the players as to their own team's system, etc. it's like it's important for a player to stand out , and this can lead to selfish play!! But, you get a sense from the Manchester players that selfish play won't impress anyone, so they've dropped it. They get recognized and rewarded accordingly for things that are not about the scoresheet , and thus, the outcomes are excellent. That's my take, and I'm sticking to it!! Ha!! Wine talking! But, I've watched about 80 games this year, so I do have a feeling for this!! And yes, the coach this year did a great job!!! And, to me, he was in a tough spot because he only had nowhere to go but down after who he had to replace, and it didn't happen!! Nowhere near it!!

top to bottom the monarchs are so strong ,no matter what style of play the opposing team wants to play they win.
great mix of size and speed!
Although its great to see the scoring , the Monarchs D are playing so well with their transition game and corner battles

Weal ensuring he's on the roster next season.

Here's the deal with Weal! Is he better at C? Yes!! Does that mean he can't play W? No, in fact, nobody knows, BUT I wouldn't count against it!! Ok, so what do you do with him! You roll him out slowly next year at wing, but you also get him some shifts at C where he's comfortable. You don't want him to ever feel like he's not in line for a C. Then, you 100% absolutely roll him out on the PP from day 1!!! No fooling around with his mind here!! Just let him go! Don't go through this DS bs that's like you earn your PP minutes, or just concentrate on your 5on5 play! Sometimes I think DS has treated certain PP minutes as to how he might have viewed his own career. Like its a reward for good hard nosed play!! But those kind of days are really gone, not just in hockey, but in all sports!! It's all about specialties!! When growing up, my favorite example of this was always Rodman when he played on the Pistons!! Boy did he suck, but boy could he rebound, and offensive rebound!!!

Shore was also a plus four. Going to be fun watching his game grow when he's a full time regular with the Kings next season.

When Shore plays with Manchester, he's lined up with an offensive unit. When he played with the Kings, he rolls with Clifford and Nolan!! Now, I'm bashing this, he was impressive to me understanding how to play 4C and let the W release, and it became the Kings most effective line, for what there purpose was!! You roll out Shore with Toffoli and Gaborik, and I'll guarantee you you'll see a different side to him. He understands the game, and Sutter knows he does!!

Berube still scares me as does the PK. Things that sometimes get lost on the scoresheet when you are averaging almost 4 goals a game.
hopefully they can finish them off in game 4.

Yup, it's great that we have an offensive force down there. It blows my mind that anyone could pencil Berube in as the big club's backup next year when he's so up and down.

This. I just don't understand it. Berube is not a very good goalie. The Monarchs have a great team with an explosive offense, and Berube is benefitting from that. Give it another year (or less), and Barto will be starting for Ontario (AHL).

Just finished watching the game. Another dominant game from Manchester. This team is special! The only thing they need to do is cut down on the penalties. If they advance to finals and face a team like Grand Rapids. They'll make them pay dearly and often for that. But other then that, they've just been incredible!

What's so exciting is this team is all draft picks and development. It's not about spending to the cap, and making blockbuster trades. This teams is our scouts and development coaches, verse the others in NHL. And they look amazing! 5 more wins, boys!

I'll be at tomorrow's game. I can't wait! This game will only take me 15 minutes to drive instead of the usual 2 hours plus to Manchester. I'm more excited about that then anything else!
