Looking at this team, if we buy out Richards, his cap hit will be minimal for two years (I think) and only years 3 and 4 will be $4.something mil. I think the Monarchs will provide several cheap players who can play in year 3 and 4 full time. Our window, looking at the ages of Carter, Kopitar, Doughty plus Pearson and Toffoli, might extend another four years after the first three years.

If we buy out Richards, who seems untradable due to recapture, we can also maybe have our 2015 1st rounder be full time by the third year too.

It's pretty exciting.

If I could go back to our spring top 20 I'd definitely have Mersch higher. What a finish to the season he had. My word.

29 points in the final 33 regular season games, and then this playoff run. Whew.

Here's hoping that Mersch can follow-up the Calder CUP with the Calder TROPHY next season!!!

:yo:

just got to get something off my chest first.
screw WMUR. they rarely had anything on the Monarchs on their site. it took until 9:30 this morning for them to put a story up on the Cup win and that was a story they ripped from the AHL site. But you can get plenty of stories on the stupid FisherCats. idiots. their support for this team has always been lame. there I feel better.

Anyway, Now that that is off my chest I am so happy right now, I have been waiting for this day since day 1 we got the team here in Manchester. All the pain and playoff disappointments in past years. I am proud to say I went to the very first home game. A 3-1 win against Lowell and of course I saw the last ever home game this past Sunday.
I missed Ken Cail's countdown call. I just could not get out of work for my last break on time. But I heard his post game and he was very emotional as many of you know. Not going to lie. I got a little choked up listening to him last night.
Many of us Monarch fans have been thru so much as I have mentioned and it was a very emotional night for the fans who have gone to the games for all these years.
As Ken Cail said it so well last night The Calder Cup is coming home to the Queen City.

EDIT: Think all the way back to the first round against Portland. Berube gave up that goal in the final second to tie the game at the end of the 2nd period and it was not looking good. They had blown a 3 goal lead and it seemed the air had been sucked out of the building and team. Since that moment they lost 2 games. Un ****ing believable.
I will never forget this day. I am envious of all Monarch fans who were there in Utica last night.

“Have you ever been to the rink in Manchester?” Canucks GM Jim Benning said Saturday. (No.) “They have a banner showing all of the players who played here on their first Stanley Cup team. Then, they have a banner with all of those who played on the second one. They are the gold standard of our business, drafting and developing. That’s what we want to get to.”

WMUR completely sucks - from their "lead" sports anchor calling the WB-S Penguins the "WB-S Pioneers" (a defunct arena football team) to their abysmal coverage of the Monarchs from the beginning. A piss-poor excuse for a local tv station.

I was there at the home opener in 2001, to the final game in 2015. in those 14 years, I think I missed maybe 10 games.

Went on road trips to Portland, Worcester, Providence, Springfield, Bridgeport, Hartford, Hershey, Lowell, Albany, Rochester, Binghamton, Toronto, and Hamilton, making friends with hockey fans from all over the place.

Watched Boudreau, Hughes, Morris & Stothers behind the bench. Good teams, great teams, mediocre teams, all but one year making the playoffs.

Watched the baby Monarchs turn into Stanley Cup Champions - twice.

Watched the kids this year go from untested rookies to AHL champs.

Made so many great friends through the years that I would never have known but for this team.

Having this team bring home the Calder Cup in the final season as our team is bittersweet.

Was one of the crazy ones at the arena at 4:30 this morning to meet the bus as it arrived from Utica - one of about 100 people who sacrificed a little sleep to show the boys how much the win means to us.

Will be attending the celebration on Tuesday, most likely with tears in my eyes.

Where woulda ya rank him now?

What more can you tell me about the celebration? I have not read nor heard anything about it.

Shame we are losing the Monarchs and the AHL. Utica "sells out" with 3,800 fans, while Manchester ranks above 1/2 of all other AHL teams in attendance, and 3,800 at a game is a "poor" showing for our "Queen City".

City government should have held out a year; better still, the LA Kings should not have toyed with us for so long. Should have cut bait a few years ago when they knew what they intended to do. Leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, after years as a season ticket holder.

Oh well! Thanks for the memories, would love to go to the ceremony if there is one.

“Have you ever been to the rink in Manchester?†Canucks GM Jim Benning said Saturday. (No.) “They have a banner showing all of the players who played here on their first Stanley Cup team. 11. Two teams with connections to Kim Dillabaugh are believed to want to interview him for their vacant goalie coach position. Dillabaugh oversees goaltender development for the Kings. He’s worked closely with Jonathan Bernier, and for Ron Hextall. Toronto is definitely interested, and Philadelphia is thought to be. The hurdle is at least one team (Carolina) asked to interview him a year ago, and was refused. It is possible Dillabaugh will be given a window after the draft, since the Kings want his expertise on goalies during the selection process. But that is not a guarantee. “Dean Lombardi does not believe in free trade,†one opposing executive laughed.

The above quote from the same article is interesting. Good for Dean. He didn't bust his ass developing one of the best scouting and development programs in the NHL just to let other teams poach them once they recognize their value.

Obviously some of the guys on the development staff will leave as their contracts expire and they can't be promoted by the Kings, but I think Dean is smart to hang onto his guys. I don't think Futa is going anywhere unless the Kings are highly compensated.

By the way.
Did Finnish Defense man prospect Alex Lintuniemi ( La Kings 60th overall pick 2014 NHL entry draft).
Play to Manchester Monarchs Calder cup champion team.

Finnish sport media didn't mention this at all yesterdays sport headlines.
So that's why i'm asking.

Didn't play, Manchester's Defense was already set, and tough to crack.

Monarchs have info on Facebook now, starts at 6:00, no charge, season ticket holders get in early as we always can & banner will be raised.

I listened to Ken Cail's call of the last five minutes and subsequent interviews. Great end to a great season.

One question. Does Jordan Weal sound like that normally?
