2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

Phenomenal game tonight! Outside of the final 10 minutes in the first period. They were relentless.

Now I just gotta figure what the hell to do in Utica before the game tomorrow... Not a lot going on here. Lol. Really friendly people though.

Kempe kind of reminds me of Brandon Saad, mainly due to his high speed attack and puck skills. They're both the same height, but Kempe needs to pack on the pounds which I'm sure he'll get around to doing as he develops.

He's still 18 (turning 19 in September) and you can already tell how special of a talent he is on the ice. Very glad to see him make a smooth transition to the AHL.

Yup, that triple team was dirty. For a single play, though, the slash at the back of Miller's knee was as deliberate as it gets.

Got home in time to watch the final 15 minutes. I must say that management in Utica is doing a fantastic job in following the blueprint from the Monarchs; Teach the kids to play exactly the way the parent club does: dirty, whiny crybabies. Yep, these kids are going to be ready for Vancouver in no time.

I was thinking the same thing... Also thought Dowd's goal was the same as Stoll's in game 5 in Vancouver just sucked the life right out!!!

Good comparison, although I saw Kempe next to Dowd and Kempe was an inch taller. Dowd is 6'2". I think Kempe has grown a lot the last year and is about 6'3". Great to point out that he's STILL 18. I think if he was born 3 days later he wold have been n this upcoming draft. He will put on muscle and weight. May end up being 6'3 - 6'4" and 210...and having that speed.

I wonder if he will even go back to Sweden, after the finals. I would think the Kings may tell him to get to LA and train hard and have a shot at making the team. I still think a year in Ontario would behoove him, but when you tell a player he has a shot, some respond in a big way. Like Simmonds did. No one expected him to skip the AHL.

I'm pretty sure Kempe will be in Ontario next season and not Sweden. I think Kings management has confirmed that. He's even already done promo shots for the Reign.

He's gonna tear the American League up next season.

yeah he is a beaut. I said it earlier in this thread. really like how that kid plays the game.
one more win. Lets just say **** it and wrap it up tomorrow night.

I know...I meant that after the finals, going back to Sweden to be 'home' for a month
or 2 and THEN coming back for camp...I meant that the Kings ask him to go to LA, right after the finals and train the rest of Summer and be ready to try and make the team. Other young players have stayed all Summer and trained. I think a yr in Ontario is probably best too. If Stoll and Williams are gone, there are going to be openings. Think Weal (if signed) and others will have shots. Mersch? Dowd? Andreoff is not a lock.
With the cap issues and Voynov and Richards unknown situations, the Kings may have to use entry level contracts and not be able to get high salary replacements.

Regarding Kempe, how many 18 yr olds have scored 7 AHL playoff goals before?
And that's after only 3 regular season games! That's impressive. He has the size, speed and talent to be able to play LW with Kopitar and Gaborik now. No reason to rush him and he may be better in Ontario. I think without the Monarchs gong deep in the playoffs and not getting this experience in, it would be a longshot. But playing 15+ playoff games and doing well, increases his chances. Gains confidence, plays the smaller surface and gets to know the system. All good. If he can score 7 AHL playoff goals playing on different lines, he can easily score 20+ goals, alongside Kopitar and Gaborik. Defenses have their hands full with Kopi and Gaborik and they each would get Kempe the puck and he would do very well NOW.
