It's a start, but they are still behind war-on-ice. I want to see filters by date range, situation, and score effects.
Obviously I'm a huge fan of the basics...goals/60, points/60, shots/60, shot%, SAT%, etc. I don't see them on there (yet).
Phase Two of the project is scheduled for an April 2015 rollout, and here’s where we arrive at the aforementioned rabbit hole.
The two primary innovations are stat visualizations and stat search filtering.
At the top of every table of statistics, there will be a line-graph chart that visualizes the numbers for the top three players or teams in that stat category. The X-axis features the dates. The Y-axis features the stats. Think of a stock trade ticker, and you’ll get the idea.
Beside every player’s name will be a check box, easily allowing users to change the players (up to three) being compared in the visualization. You wanna track the goals scored by Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby and Steven Stamkos for the last five years? Go ahead, and see what the trends tell you.
(The ability to embed these charts won’t be available yet, but is in the plans.)
But what if you wanted to know how many goals Ovechkin has scored in the third period to break a tie on the road January on a Wednesday?
The NHL would like to provide you with this information.
The League is scheduled to debut a new search-filtering engine for stats in Phase Two, and it’s going to be epic if you’re someone that enjoys the trivial “split stats” on player pages. (Raises hand…)
Had an interesting thought today while thinking about our lack of hitting, how we always seem to be getting injured, and assorted issues.
Here's a stat I'd like to see for all teams: Injuries suffered while playing against.
Basically it would be a way to numerically peg which team is the worst to play against in terms of your guys getting injured, and which teams arent.
I'm guessing the Blues and Nucks and the like would be near or at the top while the Wild would be at or near the bottom.
Is something like that even trackable?
I still think 94 is too low this year. 98 just to be safe.
Can they still hit the century mark?
Can they still hit the century mark?
I've come to declare that we're going to make the playoffs and we're going to do some damage in there. At least 2nd round, possibly WCF.
How do I know this? I had a feverish dream. Feverish dreams are always right.
Man, taking a quick look at the goaltending leaders is interesting.
6th in GAA, tied for 4th in SV%, tied for 2nd in shutouts. After not even starting the year as a starter, and being Devan Dubnyk, look at those names he's in there with. Price, Rinne, Fleury, Lundqvist, Miller, Halak, Niemi...

February 2nd, 2012. Our lineup for the game against the Avalanche:
Nick Johnson - Kyle Brodziak - Dany Heatley
Cal Clutterbuck - Matt Cullen - Devin Setoguchi
Darroll Powe - Warren Peters - Carson McMillan
Jed Ortmeyer - Chad Rau - Matt Kassian
Nick Schultz - Jared Spurgeon
Justin Falk - Nate Prosser
Clayton Stoner - Greg Zanon
Niklas Backstrom
Josh Harding
I have no words
Obviously some injuries in there (Koivu, who else?), but hard to blame Fletcher for what he's done since then.
I never believed that this would be possible. There's still a long way to go, because they have to keep going all the time. And statistically this current streak is unsustainable. So better not to think too much, just play.
I was 100% sure that this season is gone. I was wrong. About Dubnyk and everything. Boy it feels good to be wrong.
I thought the season was done too. Hated the Dubnyk trade right after it was announced. He has done nothing but impress and prove people wrong. Like you said, it feels good to be wrong. I would love to see him pull a 2012 Jonathan Quick. Just put the team on his back and carry us to the promised land.
He's one shutout away from the league demanding a drug test.He obviously took a few levels in badass in the offseason.
