KHL and NHL obviously only value money. We need a non-profit organization in charge of the hockey world. If those leagues are in charge hockey will die out.

I don't mind that there are no KHL teams. These are the countries I want Finnish teams to compete against. No huge competitive advantage in taxation for any team and most importantly no teams with rich sugar daddies who are ready to pay the huge losses when they spend way over their earnings potential.

You surely know NHL teams aren't exactly profitable outside some exceptions like the Leafs?

My only objection against KHL in ChHL is the calendar, otherwise I'd like to see them compete aginst Euro teams.

The EuroTour has to go, at least in the current format...

Whaaaaaaaaaaat?

What "whaaaat"? Instead of repeating stereotypes you hear from other ppl you could do some research. The problem is that most ppl can't even see that the league and the teams are different economic bodies. The NHL is profitable. Half the teams in it aren't. The KHL is of course not nearly as profitable as the NHL, but it is profitable since 2011 if I remember correctly.

Let's see a source.

The KHL is profitable as a league. Know your facts.

The league entity, not clubs (which lost 500 million euro combined last year). NHL posts much bigger revenue and there's more than the just the Leafs making profit. The big difference being of course the NHL system is designed for the clubs to be able to make profit much easier than in KHL but the clubs also have to see to it they don't **** it up themselves by performing poorly on and off the ice.

Supposedly everything was settled for them to participate but the clubs/IIHF nixed Jokerit from taking part and collapsed the deal. Harkimo really managed to piss off a lot of people.
I think it was all Everi (HIFK boss) and his sidekicks (other Liiga teams) that said no to Jokerit. I really don't care and I'm glad Jokerit is not taking part in this B-tournament. It means just more traveling --> expenses --> more games --> tired roster --> injuries to players.

Jokerit wanted to be in it and would have had enough roster depth.

I'm getting pretty excited for this league. Cautiously optimistic at first but now that it's been announced, I have to say that this is the best conditions yet for an international club team competition.
I can understand the reluctancy shown by the KHL to participate, as they want to eat away at the individual national leagues in europe. But that in turn could actually open up for NHL involvment in some form. Great stuff. Can't wait.

EDIT: To clarify. The NHL have been looking for ways to grow and have been contemplating an expansion to europe. However, the difficulties this presented logistically never made it a realistically viable option. Seeing, though, as the individual national leagues are not much of a threat to the NHL, save for the KHL, anything that could hinder the KHL's expansion in europe has to be a good thing. ChHL being potentially what could ward of the KHL. Participating in some fassion would/could bring goodwill toward the NHL and potentially/likely having two NHL teams settling the score on the european stage, not for simply a regular season game among many, but for a final game.. I'd say the NHL could find profits from a scenario like that. And in the end, that's all that matters to the NHL.

The competition will consist of 40 teams who will play the preliminary round in ten groups consisting of four teams each starting on 21 August.

The 26 founding clubs participate with A-licences. These clubs will enjoy multi-year participation, providing they continue to fulfil a number of preconditions, like solid finances and good organization.

“Their participation is guaranteed for four years if they fulfil all criteria,†said Anders Ternbom, chairman of the interim board that consists of six club representatives, two league representatives and one IIHF representative. “But there will be a review after three years.â€

One of the criteria is that a team has to play in the top league of its country in the year of participation. Currently one club – Djurgården Stockholm – would not fulfil this criterion and must earn promotion to the Swedish Hockey League in order to participate in next year’s Champions Hockey League.

Up to 12 additional clubs will join the competition with B-licences. These are the champions and regular season winners of the six founding leagues, unless these already are A-licence clubs. In that case, additional teams from the country such as the runner-up of the regular season, the losing playoff finalist or a losing semi-finalist will take the B-licence spot.

“€1.5 million in prize money are planned and we hope this will increase every year depending on our success,†Ternbom said.

Just to clarify, that's the total prize money.

HIFK really went pathetic there.. Bunch of a cry babies (not the fans), can't stand Jokerit leaving them obviously. HIFK is not much without Jokerit.. No one will care anymore if they claim themselves as "Stadin Kingit", they can call themselfs what they want. One would've thought they still would've wanted to be in to play against Jokerit somewhere in order to be being able to beat them, but no. :shakehead

Yes, but it was HIFK's fault they weren't in it seems, not theirs. I don't think you can rub it, they honestly wanted in and would've cared to win HIFK there obviously in local derby. If some fans think it's not important tournament, at this point I understand them. It hasn't been important so far so being pessimistic that it never will be is ok. I hope CHL becomes something big, my favourite Liiga team is in it. Jokerit has been my second favourite and will root for them too in the KHL, which I think is great diversion to Finnish hockey.

Not HIFK, other clubs. Finnish clubs make only a portion of the founding members, there had to have been supports from others as well.

It's too bad that Jokerit and Slovan are not in but if the KHL claims a special status for themselves, than that's no basis to start a project.

KHL wanted the same status as others, but not wild cards as Denmark etc which were offered by Ternbom or what is his name...
