Im sure if Martin was being shopped, Minny would be all over it. If Niskanen wants 5.5-6, they would be better off shipping a couple youngsters and grabbing Martin for 5M. He is from there as well so they should have a decent chance at resigning him.

Having Martin and Suter in your top 4 would be a huge improvement for them

The thing is that we do have a lot of kids on the brink and need to bring them in sometime to develop.

Niskanen and likely Orpik and gone. Engelland is a UFA.

Leaving us with Letang (7.5 M per year), Martin (5 M per year), Scuderi (3.375 M per year), Maatta and Bortuzzo (1.5 million for both).

Pouliot should make the roster in the middle of the year. Dumoulin could make it out of training camp. Harrington and Murray could even be in the mix at some point.

Martin was our best defender last year, but if we could get a long term solution for Crosby on wing, a kid with potential I might take my chances with giving some of the kids a chance.

We have a year to give them time to make their mistakes.

And Martin is gone next year anyways.

All kidding aside, I'd prefer Patches to Kane as well. According to the thread, there's some speculation that he may want out of MTL. They might be better trade partners for us due to our log jam on D, but I'd be surprised if he was moved TBH.

I'd definitely shop Martin if he's not willing to extend this summer. Have to be creative this offseason with so many holes up front.
