According to hockeyfans.ch, Trachsler and Von Gunten will be scratched against Latvia, with Gardner dressed as the 13th forward.

So we won't see four five men units like last year, and we will probably have special lines for the power play as it makes sense to have Gardner used as a power play specialist.

I guess scratching Trachsler against Latvia makes kind of sense but I´d be surprised if Simpson would not have him centering a shutdown line against the Swedes. But then again, Ambühl might surprise me in this role since he seems to always be able to step up his play for the national team.

And am I the only one who doesn´t like the Diaz-Streit pairing? They are both very soft in their own end...

Hiller will probably be the starter.

I don't know about the PP. I hope Gardner will be on one of the PP units.

Switzerland will medal.

They will only if Canada, Sweden, Russia, SLovakia, Czehcs, USA and Finland pulls out of the tournament.

No way they gonna medal. They don't have much NHL-ers on their roster and those who are in NHL are at least very questionable quality.

I think Islanders have much more chance to win SC than Swiss any medal at Sochi.

This is the international tournament board, NHL performances are irrelevant. Do you also think Chris Pronger is better than Ville Peltonen?

To make it clear, there are many good way to argue against Switzerland medaling. Number of NHLers isn't one of them.

Olympic medal formula:

biggest number of NHL players = gold
2nd biggest number of NHL players = silver
3rd biggest number of NHL players = bronze

alarm the bookie's, they are about to lose a lot of cash

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

EDIT: not that I'm that optimistic about medalling, but this comment is just...

MOD

We won our first game ...

Seriously we played much better ... but the collective game didn't click ! and Masalskis made us doubt.

1st period ... we dominated and were cruising through the field ... without success. But Latvians were totally outspeeded.

2nd period ... Swiss were doubting and Latvians started believing in their chances.

3rd period. ... Rebellion on the Swiss side ... Latvians still believing in their chances and the Swiss more desorganised but with more grit.

In the luck Latvians had, they were unlucky with the goal.
The win remains deserved without doubt.

The team better find its marks for the next game. ... Sweden !

Berra gets the start vs. Sweden.

I don't mean to look ahead, but is this the equivalent of throwing the Sweden game away and focusing on the Czech's already? Odd time for Berra to get a game, especially with Hiller coming off a shutout.

I don't think so, it's common practice to test both goalies during the first two games of a tournament. And it's not like Berra is not capable of playing at this level.

This means that Hiller is goalie 1a, who got the nod for the first very important game. Berra, in this case goalie 1b, starts in the next game that isn´t vital, but still very important.

If Berra excels in this game, there´s a good chance that he´ll play a game further down the road, maybe even the Czech game. If not, we have a well rested 1a goalie who´s eager to start agaist the Czechs.

Win-win situation!

The good thing first

Our goalies are up to the task.

Now the ugly thing

Our finishers aren't. We have the 2nd most SOG (!), but we simply can't bury the chances.

We can only hope that our snipers find their groove soon, else we won't get far.

You have to score in the important games. This is tomorrow, would be nice to avoid Norway or Slovakia and play on of the last 3 teams in the qualification for the quarters.

I don't get the Weber hate, I thought he had a solid game today, especially on the PK he was quite good. I don't think that there is a better option for him.
