it's ******** kessel only got 3 preseason games. if he would have injured scott, he'd be punished more severely. Hey, it's okay to swing your stick around like an *******, as long as no one gets hurt. ****ing joke.

I wonder if Kessel gets a pass cause of his star power? Why does he get to serve his games in the preseason, and Clarkson serves all of his in the regular season?

You answered your second question with your first question.

If Kessel doesn't have that dopey reputation, coupled with star status, he's out for a regular season game or two.

if a monster the size of scott was coming after me i'd chop him down too. I have zero problem with what kessel did. he could have swung the stick at his head. jumped on the pile. and the parting shot kessel gave him is what he deserves for being a POS

scott was hardly doing anything to him. Okay, the first swing I can see where kessel is coming from. But he whacked him again when he was already subdued, and then on top of that, he speared him. It was totally uncalled for. Kassian got suspended, and rightfully so for using his stick like an ******* resulting in Gagner's broken jaw. Kessel was not defending himself after the initial scrabble. The same rules don't apply to everyone, and it's a joke.

Broken jaw, broken leg= suspension

no injury= nothing

that will show them not to act stupid on the ice!

Edit: I forgot to mention, this happened after Kessel was issued a penalty in a previous game against the Flyers for slashing. But it's fine!

Okay I wasn't sure if there was something I was missing there or what.

Scotts intentions were to hurt kessel imo. he wasn't trying to spark his team imo. he wasn't defending a teammate imo. he wanted to beat the bag out of their star player cuz i'm huge and your small and hulk smash. be careful what you wish for. he picked on the wrong guy. and when you're a dirty player expect it returned in kind on occasions. there are consequences for being a d bag...fair or not

I think the Kessel suspension was more a message to the Scott's of the league. They couldn't really punish Scott for his action, but I can assure you that the league doesn't want it's star players to have to worry about being mauled by some goon.

The thing is after Kessel went full on Pejorative Slur mode and hacked away, he doesn't again after Scott is tied up with with another player from behind... if that weren't bad enough, as the brawl is winding down Kessel comes back and spears Scott in the midsection.

When I watched that clip I saw 3 suspendable infractions. The first slash, the second slash and later on the spear.

The fact that he wasn't suspended for any regular seasons games is a complete joke.

The league failed badly with the Kessel incident. The stick wielding was egregious and should never be tolerated. We've seen players suspended for far less, for hits that were once considered regular game play and they are going to allow a player to slash, hack and spear with no repercussions?

The league missed the boat on Kessel.

It's gotten to the point with this league's discipline that I just laughed and didn't even bother questioning why or how Kessel got suspended PRESEASON games

I don't like what happened from any side of this situation. Everybody involved was wrong. However I feel like without a deterrent to Scott it's hard to really punish Kessel. And Clarkson was just dumb.

You all know that if a DEVIL did what Kessel did, he would've had suspensions from REGULAR season games....

Then again, if a Devils player did do that, Lou would've found a way to trade his ass from the franchise....

Kessel wasn't hurt so I don't see the point in criticizing Scott. It's not he went for a cheapshot, it was just a mugging attempt. Even if Scott got a hold of Kessel, I doubt he could do any significant damage with the rest of their team there. It's his type of game and he played it.

The same logic should hold true for Kessel then. Scott wasn't hurt so no one should criticize Kessel right?

Difference is that what Kessel did was dangerous, what Scott did wasn't.

Umm...

It certainly was. He absolutely could have injured Kessel. In fact one could assume that was his intention since Phil didn't want to fight.

Devils trade Barch to Florida

Too bad Janssen wasn't part of the package Barch and a draft pick owed from last season.

On another note I don't like the fact that Elias is still out and may not play in the opener. Lou "status quo"

lol it was John Scott, he wasn't there to just whisper niceties to Kessel. If he wasn't getting in his ear and trying to come at him I don't think Kessel goes off on him like that, he didn't want to get into it with a guy seven inches and 70 pounds bigger than him, what else was he supposed to do besides run away like an idiot?

John Scott should know better than to go after a star player like Kessel. That being said Kessel inexplicably coming back to spear Scott was brutal. I have no idea what either one of them was thinking. In fact, out of those two and Clarkson, what Clarkson did makes the most sense to me by far. That's how ridiculous the whole thing was.

there was no reason to do that. he did it to luke schenn in this video. he gets jabbed in the face, slashes, then chops down again. i will laugh if kessel does it again and winds up injuring a player. then maybe he'll be suspended, after someone gets seriously injured.

I agree with this part. But my problem with the situation is Kessel started pushing and shoving Scott right from the start than ran away swinging. If Phill just skated away and Scott jumped him we wouldn't be having this conversation. What Phil did was the same thing like someone teasing a dog and then they got bit by the same dog. The pushing and getting your hands up with an enforcer is pretty much asking for a fight. But Scott is worthless. His teammate got beat in a legitimate fight. No reason you should answer a lost fight with a goon attacking a guy who barely fights. If anything challenge the leaf who knocked your guy out.
But what Kessel did with the spear is just a dick move, even though it was a lightest spear in the world lol

Exactly! There should be, I thought there was, ZERO TOLERANCE for stick swinging.

Swinging a stick at an other player should have major consequences. I'm far more appalled by Kessel's actions than Clarkson's
