I've managed to make a couple friends get more into hockey this year and start to really follow their teams. One was already a Pittsburgh sports fan, the other became a Caps fan.

I gotta put up with obnoxious Penguins fans and arrogant Caps fans, and the "rivalry" they like to think they have. This new division/conference is gonna be a joy where I'm at next season.

That is pure comedy to me.
Even before they laid down and let the Rags roll all over them in Games 6 & 7 this week in embarrassing fashion, what do they have to be arrogant over?

When I think of a team that consistantly chokes or lays an egg in big playoff moments I think of them first.

Did anyone honestly think the Caps were going to win last night before puck drop?
We were all hoping they would, but even their fans knew deep down they were in for a loss.

I thought our game 7 choke job against the Canes was bad

To have to sit and slowly watch your team over the course of over a period blow the lead is far more painful than the 1:20 seconds we had to suffer watching us choke

Yea I guess I'd rather have the off like a bandaid collapse instead of the slow, painful death collapse but neither are good for one's health. God dammit Sutter why did you go full Pejorative Slur? and **** you Tim Gleason for keeping that puck in the zone

Has anyone else who lives in a hockey city outside of NY/NJ adopted an intense dislike of the local team? I used to like the Bruins before I moved to Boston.

Probably something about not wanting to see other people be happy when their teams wins and your team loses. But I swear Boston is full of more bandwagoners than the average city...

Come to Chicago if you want to see bandwagoners. It's not pretty. That's the main reason why I don't like the Blackhawks. WAY too many fake fans for my liking. 4 years ago nobody could name a player on the team and didn't even know what hockey was and now there big "fans". Weak

I still wish someone would have taken a penalty there. You could see that coming when they got pinned in their own end for a minute. If a Devil hooks somebody there then they could have gotten the puck, and the Canes pull Ward. Hopefully we score into the empty net, and win. I think Parise and Langs both had a chance to clear too.

Then Marty got blamed for the game winner, but I remember him giving that goal up back in the 95 ECF against Philly, and countless times throughout his career too so it's not like that was the first time he gave up a goal like that. It was the first time he gave up a goal like that with 30 seconds left in an elimination game, but let's be serious. That was the first and last time the Devils were in a predicament like that in a game 7. I remember giving up a goal to Staal with 4 seconds left in 06, and then losing in OT. After we scored what should have been the game winner with 20 seconds left though.

As soon as we got pinned in our zone I knew they were gonna tie it. That crap happened all series. Martin attempted a weak ass backhand to get the puck out along the glass in that final minute. That was the **** up I remember the most. After Game 2 in 06 and Game 4 of that series, I didn't think they could ever top those disasters but there they were giving up 2 goals in 30 seconds in a Game 7. Jesus Christ, I feel like crying just thinking about those games.

Reading the GDT over at the Leafs forum is a study in sadism. It's so brutal that they were already talking about the next round matchup with 10 minutes left in the third.

heart attacks all around.

Things I've learned since the Leafs epic collapse and the Caps business-as-usual choke job :

1.) Leafs fans' tears taste delicious

2.) Devils Dominion is a Rags fan in Devils clothing. He *has* to be. The way he is so complimentary toward "that team", it's bordering on Homer-Joe levels of worship.

3.) Ovy is going to get fined to hell for his remarks regarding escrow, tv, and all that crap. You don't attack the *snicker* "integrity" of the game like that and get away with it in Bettman's NHL.

4.) Chara still looks like a boner in sweatpants. Carry on...

If only you could hear the smack talk they were giving me and my other Devils fan friend, to which he and I laughed off while exchanging memories of watching our team win the Stanley Cup, or even just winning a game in the Finals. I could care less about how "amazing" Ovechkin. He sure didn't do much these playoffs aside from hitting some guys and becoming one of the greatest .gifs of all time.

Kovy has yet to win a cup himself YET he has gone further and has had MORE SUCCESS in the years he's been a devil than Ovy has been his entire career thus far.

Kovy has had more success than the Capitals organization. He managed to win not 1, but 2 games in the Cup Finals. The Caps got swept by Detroit in their only appearance.

Even this season, we beat them 2 out of 3 times.

I lived in the DC area for 3 years in the 90's, before we won our first Cup.
Even back then I did not take the Caps nor their fans seriously when it came for smack talk. Not that they did much of it to be honest.
I used to hit every Devils game at the Cap Centre in my red & green jersey and we did pretty well there.

Ironically, I knew a Pens fan down there who straight out told me one winter day in 1993 that the Devils would never win a Cup.

I've been finding that the new generation of Caps fans (my generation I guess) are a lot more willing and ready to smack talk, though I do run into and talk to reasonable and knowledgeable fans.

I think it's just one of those cases where the minority just happens to also be the most vocal, and also one is a ****** in the band who keeps trying to get with my girlfriend.

I know this doesn't answer your question but I have a great disdain for every sports team in the New York Metro area. I hate the Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Knicks, Nets, Isles, Giants, Jets. The only local team I like is the Devils. I'm a Packers and White Sox fan. I cannot wait to leave this area. The stupidity I come across on a daily basis from people who like those teams is just on an absolute other level. I know it's not better in other areas of the country but I've had enough of it here with these people

Yea that's true. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to not be able to watch your team on TV during a home game. That guy was something else. Still, those teams they had back then were really horrible so I don't know how much of a difference that would make. I just think most of there fans go way over the line when it comes to the bandwagoning. I get it that there a good team and you like Kane, Toews, Sharp, etc. but the way most them cram it down my throat is beyond irritating. You couldn't even name a player on the team 5 years ago, chill the hell out. I would say about 90% of my friends who are Blackhawks fans are like that. Quite annoying.

Makes 2 of us. When I lived in Jersey the only team I rooted for from the New York area was the Mets. I went to a ton of there games at Shea, good times. Yea after I moved to Chicago though, I started watching and rooting for the White Sox. Didn't help matters that the Mets become a complete and utter embarrassment in the years after I left Jersey. All of the New York teams are so unlikable I probably would still root for the Packers even if I still lived back there. I started rooting for them when the Rodgers era started back in 2008. The Giants are the only team who are semi likeable but there fans are irritating as hell.

I've been a White Sox and Packers fan my whole life because of my family. My grandpa was born in 1905 and was a Sox/Packers fan until he died. My Dad is a Sox fan and my brother is a Packers fan. I picked up both teams and always get **** for it until I explain why. When the Giants won in 07, I have never seen such bandwagoning until the Rangers of last year. Throughout school growing up I'd always walk around in Packers gear and never once was given any type of **** for it, until the day after the NFC Championship game in 07. People who never once talked about the Giants, wore Giants gear, etc... were giving me **** for liking the Packers. The Jets and Mets fans I know are 100x more loyal than Yankees and Giants fans I know.

Not a great start for Ottawa. Anderson keeping it from being a blowout only 4 minutes into the game.

The offenses are doing whatever they want so far. Defense? Who needs that?
