Whats our magic number to get eliminated? I feel like its creepin on us.

Not trolling but I have been doing math on our boards so i can give you the scenarios.

Your 7 behind the Isles and 6 behind the Rags.

You have 1 game in hand with the Isles and = with the Rags.

If you went 7-0 you end up with 54 but your ROW will make you lose the tiebreaker to any team that ties you with points.
The Rags would have to go 3-3-1 (or worse) to end up with 53 or less
The Isles would have to go 3-3 (or worse) to end up with 53 or less

If you go 6-1 52 points
Rags 2-4-1
Isles 2-4
etc,etc.

Hope that helps.

Edit: remaining schedule for Isles and Rags.

lol the only playoff team either plays is the Isles going to Toronto. We had our chances against the other non-playoff teams and couldn't win games though.

Rags have 8 easy points, 2 games each vs Florida and us.
And Philly, Buffalo and Carolina are soft too.

My hope is the Islanders, Jets and Ottawa win every game and bounce the Rags out.

I don't think Detroit is gonna make it. I've watched a lot of their games especially the ones against the Blackhawks and their slow as s***. They really only have 1 line plus Franzen and Flippula and their defense is horrid. Howard keeps them in a lot of games.

I never count Detroit out, but they are looking weak this season.

if Buffalo and Nashville win today they pass us in the overall standings. If Buffalo loses to Tampa, then Tampa is 1 point behind us and Buffalo is tied with us still in the overall standings.

Looks like Nashville is going to give Filip Forsberg a look here the next few games.

1. I think there's a good chance this trade looks really horrible for the Caps a couple years from now.

2. The fact the Preds are already bringing in Forsberg speaks to their anemic offense and desperation for scoring (much like us).

It already looks horrible unless they at least make a deep playoff run this year or next, with Erat contributing. Part of their rationale for doing the deal was to have protection around if Ribiero walked though.

I think Washington got hosed, and so do all my Caps fan friends. Forsberg is going to be a good one.

Erat seemed like one of those guys that would stay with the Predators forever. I think Washington can make some noise though. I've ben following them a lot, and they've been damn good since losing that game to us before the Ovechkin hat trick. They did choke away two 4 goal leads to TB last night, but they've been rolling.

Was a bit surprised to see that the Wild have fallen back in the pack so to speak and sit in 7th out in the West. A bad week and they could be out of the playoffs.

their schedule is weak

2 against calgary

2 against the oilers

they should get in. they had 39 shots on goal yesterday, and didn't win. sound familiar?

Eh. I could see the Oilers putting up a fight and giving some trouble, but yeah those Calgary games are pretty much gimmes.

Either way, they struggled early, got on a nice roll, but appear to have stuttered a bit here lately. Would like to see how they perform in the playoffs.

Buffalo wins it, just dropped a 1 spot down the standings.

Ron Rolston has been doing a nice job up there. He's taken some of his AHL guys and put them up with him and they've been playing better actually even despite not having Vanek back for the most part.

That would be excellent. Devils fans need to be able to feel some schadenfreude right now.

if we have no chance put a rookie in net(kinkaid), Albany is not making it to the playoffs either, bring all the ones we all talk about up. its over guys. its over.

Give them some experience when you can afford it.

I would say do this after the next rangers game. Leave the last rangers game for the dogs.

There is no scenario where I'm "happy" with the Devils missing the playoffs. But if we're going to miss it, might as well take the Rangers, Flyers, and Wild with us to the golf course.

My thinking exactly. No playoffs for any of our rivals is my ideal scenario.

Well at least one and a half of those is realistic. Philly's done, the Wild are in deep **** if Suter's hurt but probably still have about a 50-50 shot of making it. The Rangers probably have the inside track unless 'both' Winnipeg and the Caps keep winning and nobody else falls back. Plus their schedule's just so god-awful.

I just hope they get Montreal or a 'healthy' Pittsburgh team. Maybe the Caps if they go up to 6, that'd give me another reason to root for Oatesie. They punked a not-healthy Pittsburgh team a couple weeks back, and always beat Boston the way Boston beats us. They never do well against the Habs or a healthy Pens team though.
