When you're in the position of hoping that certain teams lose every single night, all that says is that your team isn't very good. That said, I really despise the bruins something ****ing fierce. I'm really tired of the Devils getting ****ed sideways by that team. It's really incredible at this point.

The scores tonight are pretty much the lowering of the coffin. They're getting awfully close to the point where they're going to have to run the table just to even have a chance in those last couple of games of the season. Tomorrow is a must win game and it has to be won in regulation as well. Anything less and I think it's pretty fair to say that they're "officially" done. Honestly, I really don't think I'd even be too upset if they lost it. I appreciate that they're still trying but these last two months of watching them chase their own tails, well it has to be done with. They're just not getting any reward for anything they do and it almost feels like it would be better just to get it over with.

There are 8 games left and we need to win at least 5 of them, and get loser points in another two. We basically can lose maybe one more game in regulation, and a total of 3 games at all from tomorrow on. Tonight didn't help, but honestly nothing that happened tonight changed the picture a great deal. The odds dropped a lot more last night with another regulation loss on top of the Rags win then the Jets or Ottawa winning tonight.

If we win the games we need to win we will naturally jump the Jets, but we won't catch Ottawa or the Isles. It is all about the Rags, the two games we have against them, and doing good in the other 6 as they are still rather mediocre as well. Tomorrow is a must win though.

Devils and Rangers are even if we beat them the two games we play them. That's the realistic chance the Devils have right now. Really have to knock off the Rangers.

What worries me is the walls have closed in so much now, tomorrow may start the meltdown phase where the team caves in. The only thing that might hold it off is the hunger to get 'any' win to end the losing streak before it becomes completely insane. That's pretty much all I care about at this point now, getting at least three wins and finishing somewhat respectably in these final games instead of having a complete nuclear disaster.

I don't know man. I really don't know what to expect. When Marty got hurt, that's when this season went down the toilet, and honestly, it wasn't even because of his injury. I know Hedberg didn't exactly do a tremendous job, but you could just see how poorly this team was playing against mediocre teams and for me that was a huge red flag. But I never would have guessed that they would get to this level. I doubted the playoffs but they've done nothing but lose in spectacular fashion. This team shouldn't be this bad but literally everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong.

I'm worried too about what you're saying because they basically have zero room for error at this point. I can see them playing a real spirited hard fought game and they'll just find another way to lose after outplaying their opponent. That's when I think **** will go nuclear because they're certainly going to at least attempt to make one final push here. But how many times can you keep coming up short before you break mentally?

If you ask me, the work ethic has been there 95% of the time this season. The lack of brains and execution is what did them in, even more so than the injuries.

And to further beat the dead horse with more negativity, the Jets are also going to be four points ahead of us now too. Granted, we have two games in hand but still, even the Southeast teams are getting away. That's ANOTHER spot to jump over.

Wonder what spot we actually finish in. Can't see Philly and Buffalo passing us because they have pretty much quit. I think we might stay in 10. Don't know how I'd feel about that because our pick won't be particularly high.

We will lose to the Rangers both games. No confidence in this team right now . They find ways to lose

Yea I can see us getting maimed in those. Don't know how much I'd watch of those games. All the Marty chants will be hard to take and the general atmosphere will have me leaping towards the remote to change that thing.

The Rangers are the best chance they have, but an Ottawa loss tomorrow kind of pulls them back in to the mix as well. But even with that, the Devils would still need to outpoint them by 5 with only 14 possible points on the table. That's an extremely tall order and they have to pull that off against pretty much every team slotted 6 - 9. Jumping two teams with that little wiggle room is insanely difficult to do. It would be a totally different story if NJ could actually win some games though.

As for going into the garden and beating the Rangers clean two times in a week.... well they pulled it off last spring, but I don't think that would be something to bet on. It's not to be negative, honestly, but NJ's season has almost reached hospice stage at this point. They've been the walking dead for weeks, but it's just easier to see it now. That said, hopefully they have some miracle run left but it's just next to impossible to feel positive after everything we have seen.

The Padmonstor Wall can be penetrated.

That's because the Devils think they can beat them by shooting straight on. You need screens, rebounds, deflections, and to get these big earthquakes moving. I hate to nitpick, but Chris Terreri is the goaltending coach and scouts the goalies. He should know where to beat them. He obviously either hasn't realized the Devils struggle against these goalies yet, or he's just clueless, or the team isn't responding to him.

I agree, outside of a period here and there (1st against the Isles a week ago) the effort has been there. If it wasn't we would of lose 5-0 to the Bruins last night. Just been bad luck, dumb plays, lack of confidence, basically ya the perfect storm of crap that keeps them coming up short again and again.

I'd say tomorrow would be the back breaker and the team melts down if they lose again...but then again if Kovy plays Monday I could see them mustering up one more push in that game (if we lose tomorrow...if we win I have no doubt we come to play in Toronto).

We have to win tomorrow regardless if it pulls Ottawa down or not. I think we auto jump the Jets if we get the points needed to pace and pass the Rags since we have the games in hand and such (if we were even in games be a TOTALLY different story). Wouldn't place bets as we have to go almost .800 rest of the way, beat the Rags in MSG twice to boot, and the team has not shown it can do that at any point recently, still it is possible if few things go right and we cut down a bit on the bone headed stuff.

I can actually see us beating the Sens tomorrow night, and everyone getting some slim/faint optimism about still having a chance and saying how the worst is over, only to be crushed in brutal fashion with a bunch of bad losses over the following week.

I have a tough time seeing us beating the Rangers twice. If we split the two, we should count ourselves lucky.

Right now, I see us maybe getting like 6-7 points the rest of the way.

Sadly, I think this is the most likely outcome. You just can't turn it "on". Not this roster at least.

I envision a similar scenerio. Play Moose at MSG both games if we are further out of it by then.

Would like us to just win the remaining home games for the sake of the fans in attendance.

At the least, we still have a chance to play spoiler.

Although I don't have much confidence in this team being able to actually win a game.

It sucks to see everyone's mood now. For weeks it was arguing back and forth about who is right, if the team truly sucks or is any good, etc. But at least there was some life there, something to argue about. Now we're all pretty much just resigned to their fate but the fan in us keeps alive whatever little hope remains.

They need to channel the 88 team. Run the gauntlet from here on out and knock the Rangers out of the playoffs on the last day of the season.

NYR may lose both games against us and still likely make the playoffs. Let's face it, we're a in desperate situation.

In other news, I just jumped on the Blues bandwagon tonight. They're playing the way we were supposed to.

Minnesota is 4-6 on the last 10 games. They gonna make it mostly because their direct opponent gave up on the season.

Resigned is a good word. I'm of the mindset now that hey, at least they've only had two irrelevant seasons for me as a fan - with one of them having a redemptive second half and the other one being a short season and comparatively few meaningless games because of it, although the last two months have been a bit tortorous regardless.

Now having both of those seasons in a three-year span is troubling. But at least there have been very few meaningless games even in those years.
