LA seem to be in a cap crunch, they need to sign both Lewis & Clifford & only have about $1.5 mil in cap space. BM should make a move for Clifford & offer a couple of prospects we don't need like Da Costa & Petersson. Clifford would be great with Smith & Neil & Neil isn't getting any younger. Clifford is a lot like Neil in that he can also play.

We need to resign Cowen and Wiercioch. Its 3-5 million, so we rise few places. And we have 2 month to spend some more, if EM decides to.

Buffal Sabres 25th in league spending is spending 5 million more then us.

If the Sens rise it won't be by much

Wiercioch re-signs. And we get a grumpy TMurr photo for the ages:

Consider what it took to get players like Loktionov, Purcell, Boyle out of LA. It wasn't much so getting Clifford may just be as easy as you say.

^hmm...Tim's lost some weight I think.

Pathetic.

How are the Panthers spending more than us? I know that EM is having financial trouble, but the Panthers have a deal on their website where you can get season tickets for $7 each game. Included in there is a free jersey, free parking and free concerts.

You should go on the panthers board. You will see that some of their fans are constantly complaining about there financial issues. They also have an internal cap i believe

They're not, according to capgeek.

They've got a higher cap hit but we're actually spending marginally more in actual salary. That gap will widen a bit with the Wier contract and the eventual Cowen deal.

edit: oh wait, I do suppose the potential is there for them to be spending a bit more than us when you factor in the bonuses, depending on how realistically achievable those are, when the season is done.

Those stats are meaningful compared to first hand accounts. There are first hand accounts from people who drank their own urine and say their cancer was cured lol. Just saying its anecdotal evidence which is subject to confirmation bias etc.

Joe Corvo would drink his own urine simply for the taste.

I was wrong. I was looking at cap hits. Still, though. The fact that we're so close to them spending-wise.

You win this one, HAWT. I wonder who he'll end up with.

Us. Murray already said he likes Jagr, but that he's more of a player you pick up at the deadline.

Greening-Spezza-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Michalek
Conacher-Zibanejad-Jagr
Condra-Smith-Neil

Filthy.

Means we may be in spot of trouble financially, I know. It sucks. The bright side is we're fielding a pretty darn competitive squad at this bargain price, especially compared with the Panthers both on paper and based on past performance. May not last forever but that's tomorrows problem. There's also not much available in FA to really spend money on.

No need to panic yet IMO. Just chill. Watch these kids grow together.

I was wondering who was left in the East that he hasn't played for that could be good next year, and the Sens were one of like, three teams I could think of. That would be a beautiful line up.

As long as Cowen recovers slightly and we don't get significant injuries to significant players for significant amounts of time, I think we'll be slightly better than last year in the goalscoring department and we should hopefully make our way to the playoffs with a slightly better position (even though our defense and GA might suffer slightly because of the unreal numbers put up by our 3 goalies last year).

I don't see why this is an issue. Florida also went out a couple summers ago and went on a spending spree, signed huge contracts with guys like Bergenheim, Kopecky, Goc, Upshall, Fleischmann, and Jovanovski. That's about 16M in bottom 6 forwards and non top pairing D from the UFA market. Instead we just draft and bring up guys to play those roles and produce more. Intelligent managerial decisions and scouting shouldn't be something to complain about.

Complain about money if we can't sign our homegrown talent and let them walk for nothing. Today we signed a player with a half a season under his belt to a big contract. Last year we locked up the Norris trophy winner to a big 7 year deal.

As of right now, we're one of the best teams in the East on paper, with elite talent at every single position with depth to back it up while being young AND cheap. There isn't any reason to spend huge sums of cash on mediocre free agents to plug holes in the short term when management believes (and has proven) they can fill holes internally. Murray and Melnyk should be praised for their fiscal responsibility.

There are many organizations who are envious of how we stand. Look at a team like St. Louis who ran with one of the best but cheapest rosters this past year but are having a difficult time staying within the league's restraints after signing Roy and trading for Leopold and Bouwmeester. Good young players will eventually get paid. I'd like to think that we're bankrolling for guys like Zibanejad, Conacher, Lehner, Cowen, Michalek and Gryba by not signing UFAs to long term deals and opting for players like Macarthur and Corvo while also being mindful of July 2016 when we have to re-up core players like Ryan, Spezza and Methot.

We've also left ourselves in a good spot to acquire whatever need is identified at the trade deadline. We have assets, cap space, scouting and Bryan Murray to make sure we do so if its needed. Let's take a step back and wait to see how the team performs before longing for the bankroll of the Florida Panthers.
