What do you guys think about getting Meszaros from Philly? There's history there and now that they've acquired Streit, they might be looking to move a defenseman to save some cap space. Mez has already played LD with Redden.

Cowen-Meszaros can be a solid pairing.
Isn't he kinda injury prone now?

If we are just looking for a guy to make rushed and ill-advised passes across the points on the power play so we give up short handed breakaways, I'd probably just sign Campoli as a UFA instead. He fills this void but would be a bit cheaper.

briere can go to the wing.

i'm kind of a fan of the SJ "8 centers" model. Players who grew up and developed as centers tend to be better defensively (i know, not briere), can help out in the faceoff circle when players get kicked out or are slumping through a game, and allow greater lineup flexibility.

I'm still only pro-briere if alfie retires though.

can't philly just buy briere out, and resign him cheap? , im sure he already said if he cant resign its retirement for him

Can't re-sign a player that is amnestied.

There has been talk that he wants to stay as close to Philly as possible for family reasons.

Players that get amnestied cannot be signed by the team that amnestied them.

Since the cap isnt an issue for us, I actually think it would make a lot of sense to trade a low asset (such as O'Brien) for Briere plus a decent asset (2nd round pick, either this year or next, this year means we get a prospect and he can develop earlier but next year means we can possible flip the pick at the deadline).

yep. I wonder what 3.33M (2/3rds briere's remaining salary, aka his buyout cost) is worth to the flyers in terms of assets? Of course, that's only 830k a year over the next 4 years, so maybe not much.

It would be worth it for us to trade for him if he was willing to waive his NMC to come here. He prob wont because he will make less $$$...His caphit is high but I believe his actual dollars are only 5M total over the next 2 years...

If he gets bought out he will cost much more than 2.5M per year...

Send them a junk prospect for him and a pick...

I know the other day I brought that point up too. Hartnell, Simmonds and briere all have NMC. Voracek is the only movable winger really.

Im sure Briere would be knowing of all of this so he would have no problem waiving it

the problem for briere is
Buyout = 830k for 4 years
+
Salary

vs
2.5M for 2 years.

so if briere thinks he can garner more than 1.67M over the next 4 years on NHL contracts, he's better off blocking all trades and taking the buyout.

sorry it was worded stupid what i meant was why would you trade for a guy you suspect will be bought out unless you give up next to nothing or very cheap

Also I've read on the trade boards that he said he doesn't want to be traded and will probably retire if he is bought out. which means more than likely he wouldn't move his NMC TBH.

i think he would be good though probably a solid second line producer.
