Could be a blockbuster. Could be something as simple as the 7th + MPS for DZ. The speed the Rangers would have down the left-side would be unmatched.
I like MPS +7th.
Ola, what's the scouting report on MPS? Does he have the legit offensive instincts and IQ to develop into a legit top-6er?
If so, Kreider+MPS would make a hell of a big, fast, and strong combo at LW. Hagelin would just further add to the speed on the left side.
Assuming Nichushkin is there at 5 (which seems likely with Barkov, Mackinnon, Jones, and Drouin going in no particular order in the top 4) I would then try to swap the 7 for the 5. I don't think Carolina wants to take a Russian, especially one that said he won't come over unless he's guaranteed a roster spot. They want an NHL ready d-man, and I think the most NHL ready defender (not named Jones) is Rasmus, and he's be available at 7. 7th+minor picks or prospects for the 5th. Draft Nichushkin.
This year:
Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin/MPS-Brassard-Zucc
MPS/Hagelin-Richards-Callahan
Boyle-Lindberg-Dorsett
McD-G
Staal-Stralman
Moore-1 year UFA (Zidlicky?)
If the Rangers' brass feels like Nichushkin is ready for play this year, you can find room for him.
This would make us set on both wings for a long time. Would also probably make us set at C for a long time, as this move allows Miller to play C. If Brassard stays at the level we're used to and becomes a legit 1B or 2C, we're pretty much set at forward.
This leaves one (two) holes. The major hole is a RH OFD. Haven't had one in forever. We need one terribly.
The other is a G prospect, but it's hard for me to say that's a huge hole when we have Hank still fairly young.
These two fairly simple trades would set us up for awhile.
EDIT: Just saw E. Kane is potentially available. Have LOVED him since his draft year. MDZ+ for Kane would be fantastic.
